TLC disinvites TV critic from podcast due to fears of terrorist attack by Palin-bots.

Are you all still confused as to how Palin manages to get a pass by many media critics despite the obvious crappiness of her ridiculous reality show/political advertisement?  Perhaps THIS will help to clear things up.

From Jezebel:

Jennifer Pozner, author of Reality Bites Back (from which we published an excerpt last month), was all set to appear on TLC's Talkback Live podcast after Sunday's episode of Sarah Palin's Alaska. Then Pozner wrote a blog post detailing her past and present criticisms of the show: "I've called it a series-long unpaid political advertisement, helping a potential presidential candidate brand herself in exactly the down-home, family-values-having, rugged individualist image she has always favored for herself and her family. I've also been extremely critical of the abject glee the show takes in depicting hunting and fishing in as violent a way as possible, complete with extended scenes of the Palins gutting bloody animals and aggressively beating fish to death with bats." And suddenly, Pozner was no longer welcome on the podcast. Is it because the organizers of the show can't handle anybody even mildly badmouthing Palin? Well, not exactly.

In a post about the Pozner incident, the show's social-media strategist Brian Reich wrote, "We canceled the interview because our planned conversation became, perhaps inadvertently, political." As Pozner pointed out on her blog, the idea that "I'm just too 'political' ... for a show about a former Governor and potential future Republican presidential candidate" is pretty ludicrous. But when I spoke to Reich, he acknowledged that "too political" isn't really the whole story. He explained to me that "the response to her blog post was ridiculously negative — and not negative in the appropriate ways, negative in ways that go way beyond what we're comfortable with." He added that ever since a gunman sparked a standoff at the Discovery Channel headquarters in September, "everyone at Discovery and TLC is very anxious about security issues." So basically, they were worried that if they let Pozner talk on the podcast, a pro-Palin wingnut might try to bomb the building.

How often have we heard about this same kind of threatening posturing coming from the Palin-bots?

Joe McGinniss, David Letterman, Michael Joseph Gross, Me, Margaret Cho, Mercede Johnston, Barbara Walters, the list goes on, and on, and on.

This is how the supporters of Sarah Palin respond to ANYTHING even remotely critical of their queen.

I am glad that Jezebel put these facts out, because until people REALLY see the kind of nut-jobs that Sarah Palin attracts as supporters, they might simply go on thinking she is like every other politician or reality TV star.  But she is not.

She taps into the same kind of angry, ignorant, mentally unstable American psyche that inspires people to blow up federal buildings, or attack Alaska natives on the street, or to hire their own security staff to arrest journalists trying to exercise their first amendment rights. Many of these crazed, barely coherent psychopaths who have, up until now, been leaderless, have found themselves inspired by the regurgitated one-liners, ghostwritten Facebook posts, and crazed Tweets of the Grizzled Mama.

Here finally is a person who is as mentally unstable as they are. Who better to lead them to victory over the "guvment" they feel oppresses them, the minorities they feel have stolen their jobs, and the voices in their head that keep telling them they are worthless?

However they are also bullies. And the best way to deal with bullies is to stand up to them and refuse to take their shit.  Until the media starts to, in Palin's words "man up," she will continue to get a pass by the more manstream media simply because they fear a backlash from her troop of flying monkeys.

    Reagan's guy takes Sarah DOWN.

Sarah Palin Not 'Electable For Presidency,' Says GOP Operative Who Helped Reelect Ronald Reagan

Sig Rogich, a Republican operative widely seen as influential and who worked on former President Ronald Reagan's 1984 reelection campaign, took aim at Sarah Palin's qualifications to run for the White House in the next election cycle.

"I'm not overly enamored with [her]," he told the Nevada News Bureau on Monday. "As a candidate nationwide I don't think she is electable for a presidency, and I think that over time you will see reasons why."

You said it perfectly, Gryphen. She represents for this group a person who Hollywood has never allow for them. "Look, she thinks like I do and she is purty." This group of people have stood by and watched our culture pass them by and now they have someone who speaks for them, regardless of the message. They hang on her coat tails with hope that some day they, too, can be just like her, when before they knew they never had a chance to stand out. It is really something to witness and scares the living daylights out of me. I think of the "Dawn of the Dead" when palinbots are mentioned. Thankfully, someone at TLC has some brains and it speaks loudly about just what kind of freaks are supporting this mess, known as sarah paylin.

UPDATE: This segment has been canceled–specifically because of this blog post. I may still participate in the TLC podcast and/or blogs in some other capacity, and will discuss in a blog post to come.

Am I being Punked? Perhaps. But at 10:20 EST, I’ll be a guest on TLC’s TalkBack Live podcast to follow tonight’s new episode of Sarah Palin’s Alaska, the new reality show starring — and executive produced by — the 2008 Republican Vice Presidential nominee, former half-term Gov. of Alaska, and Fox News contributor. In the episode, the Palin family and the Gosselin family (Kate Gosselin and her “plus eight” kids, stars of another flagship TLC series) will go camping together in Alaska.

I’m not sure TLC understands who they’re getting as a guest. I didn’t try to hide it: “You know I’m a media critic, and not a cheerleader for reality TV, right?” “Yeah. That’s ok,” the booker said. “You know I just wrote a book called Reality Bites Back, right?” “Yes. That’s not a problem.” Well, ok then…

I’m pretty sure I mentioned to the booker that I’ve livetweeted several episodes of Sarah Palin’s Alaska (or #SPAlaska, as it is known on Twitter and promoted by the network). I certainly haven’t hidden my opinion about the show. I’ve called it a series-long unpaid political advertisement, helping a potential presidential candidate brand herself in exactly the down-home, family-values-having, rugged individualist image she has always favored for herself and her family. I’ve also been extremely critical of the abject glee the show takes in depicting hunting and fishing in as violent a way as possible, complete with extended scenes of the Palins gutting bloody animals and aggressively beating fish to death with bats. After being tag teamed bullied by two of her staff flying monkeys (I have found articles written by both on C4P) on twitter the other day, I've been watching their methods.

One will find something objectionable and call in at least one other person to help with the bullying and name calling. I kept track of the ones who went after me, and lo and behold one of them was the head harasser of Brian Reich and Jennifer Pozner. He think he is above reproach because he is former miltary. The other had a meltdown on the AP reporter from Haiti about mentioning her clothing choices and for not mentioning that she didn't use a teleprompter at her "press conference" where she took no questions. Like anyone cares if she did...

    @7:21, oooh, foreshadowing! Love it!

The number one reason that I despise Sarah Palin is that she unleashed a nastiness in a certain type of person in this country. She made is "ok" to be overtly racist, anti-"foreigner", and just generally ignorant. It is NOT OK to exhibit these qualities, and with pride, no less! Another fyi: being a know-nothing ass does not make you patriotic.

The problem for Palin and her troop of sociopathic flying monkeys is that the critics are beginning to pile on, and - no offense, Gryph - they are far more prominent than the heroic Alaskan bloggers. Within the last few weeks we’ve had Joe Scarborough, Mark McKinnon, Barbara Bush, Sig Rogich (Republican operative widely seen as influential and who worked on former President Ronald Reagan's 1984 reelection campaign), and Gov. Christine Todd Whitman. Add that to the list of people already on record as being highly critical of Palin (Andrew Sullivan, Kathleen Parker, Maureen Dowd, et al.) and it becomes apparent that the flying monkeys are going to be VERY busy.

At some point, when it becomes clear that the mere threat of being savaged by Palin’s flying monkeys is not a deterrent, even the most ardent of the troop will begin to tire. When their services are required 24/7, the airborne simian ignoramuses will begin to drift away and lose interest.

Up until now, they have felt empowered by waging battle for their Imbecilic Queen of Abject Ignorance. However, when their results appear to become less and less successful, the realization will set in that, yes indeed, they are worthless ineffectual asshats who cannot shape the destiny of this nation. They will skulk back to the dark holes from which they only recently emerged and they will resume their hate filled paranoiac existences, albeit more quietly.

Oh, the looks of bewilderment, the unknowing stares, that empty gaze of utter disbelief that will adorn their pitiful visages when they realize that all was for naught.

If I wasn’t laughing so hard, I might care. But, nope, I don’t.

Come on folks, let’s silence that ignorant bitch once and for all and consign her to the dustbin of American history where she belongs.

Oh, I almost forgot: FUCK TLC, DISCOVERY, AND JOHN McCAIN NOW AND FOREVER!

Duck and cover, because Sarah’s locked and loaded

As a hunter, Sarah Palin is a greater menace in the field than Dick Cheney.

And I have a feeling that real hunters among my readership will back me up on that. Fact is, Sarah Palin gives hunting a bad name, and it has nothing to do with the whole cruelty to animals argument, which I’ll leave for someone else to hash out. It’s based entirely on the fact that she’s so clueless and incompetent behind a gun that she ought to trade her rifle in on a tactical nuke, which doesn’t require the pinpoint accuracy a hunter needs to make meat without causing unnecessary suffering among the game population.

I came to this conclusion after a friend told me that as a former hunter, shooter and avid outdoorsman, I had to watch the episode of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” where she and her dad go into the backcountry after caribou. I’d never watched an episode of that show, for obvious reasons, but I dialed that one up just so I could discuss it with my buddy. And I was horrified.

Full disclosure: I grew up in a state where hunting was so prevalent that the schools were closed on the first day of deer season. Nearly everyone, including my family, filled their freezers for the winter with wild game. I went big game hunting for the first time before I was 10, and started filling my own licenses with deer and elk as soon as I reached legal age.

Sarah Palin’s heartless values miss the mark

I haven’t seen eye to eye with Sarah Palin because she stereotypes, simplifies complexities and kills animals. That is her right as an American, but I cannot forget that as a former vice-presidential candidate, she was potentially one rung away from being our president.

In the Las Vegas Sun last week I read commentaries by Maureen Dowd and David Firestone about Palin shooting a caribou and clubbing halibut, presented in “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” on TLC. These commentaries stimulated me to watch repeats of those two episodes and explore what drives her.

The answer to what drives her? Cutthroat competition and the game of predator and prey. Her father taught her early on to shoot to kill. She was known as Sarah Barracuda on her high school basketball team.

In one episode she said that her hunting teaches people the lesson of self-reliance. As I watched her being chauffeured around in her palatial RV, a colossal fishing boat, private planes and talking about killing a bear, I mainly saw hedonistic, heartless self-indulgence.

I think that overall Palin is a bad influence on society. The lessons I see her teaching are “might makes right” and “the end justifies the means.” Where are constructive values, such as compassion, respect and being a good sport? The name of the game should be peace, not violence.

Unfortunately, the same can’t yet be said of Sarah Palin, though if her program on the TLC channel is any indication of the woman’s depth, she is destined to follow a similar path to ignominy.

While I wasn’t looking for it, and only vaguely even aware of the show’s existence, this weekend I stumbled not once, but twice on episodes of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.”

From what I saw, supplemented with previews of future shows, the main topic of the program is shooting guns with, between bangs, some spectacular scenery tossed in as an afterthought.

If this was the Outdoor Channel or some other hunting-type show it wouldn’t be an issue, but on TLC (doesn’t that stand for Tender Loving Care)?

It’s not so much the use of guns that is the overkill, if you’ll pardon the pun, it is that the program presents the ridiculous notion that everyone in Alaska packs big iron, at all times.

And if the first show I watched is any indication, at least Palin’s family doesn’t do it well. There was Sarah, complete with full make-up, eyeliner and fashionable ‘updo,’ leaning over a backpack with her sights on a caribou, a very small one I might add. It was her father’s gun, but after missing the animal with at least five shots, she finally downed it with the guide’s rifle.

Dad’s comment on the accuracy of his firearm was something like “Usually it’s dead on.” Gee, don’t you think that before he went on television (and for the sake of merely wounding an animal) he’d have actually shot it beforehand to ensure the bullet went where the gun was pointed?

The next episode was a camping trip, with all the due preparations on how to shoot attacking bears, complete with some sort of wildlife officer demonstrating with a bear skull how a grizzly would bite Sarah’s daughter’s butt!

This is the truth, I swear.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin continues to be a highly polarizing figure, with a whopping 57 percent viewing her unfavorably according to a new poll.

The Bloomberg survey, released Monday, also found that the negative feelings about Palin are particularly strong. A third -- 33 percent -- said they view Palin "very unfavorably." That's the same percentage that viewed her favorably cumulatively -- respondents who either viewed her "somewhat" or "very" favorably (!).

The survey results indicate that Palin faces a significant image problem as she decides to run for president.

Just look at how Pres. Obama's numbers compare. Obama scored a net negative job approval rating -- 48 percent said they disapprove of his performance as president while 47 percent approved, which is in line with other polls and shows the Bloomberg survey isn't a particularly good poll for the president. However, 52 percent view Obama favorably while 44 percent view him unfavorably.

More troubling for Palin is that it may be tough for her to change that perception. Only 10 percent are unsure of their opinion of her.

If Sarah really wanted to appear Presidential (or just basically decent), she would announce on FaceBook that she does not need and does not like to have her fans/followers behave badly.

She would apologize on their behalf (unless she is scared of them herself), and begin taking the high road by ignoring critics.

If she spent as much time doing something positive, saying positive things, then her public persona would improve. By that I do not mean silly photo op adventures like going to Haiti or having her photo taken with Thatcher - those are really silly and everyone with a brain knows she is scamming when she does those kinds of things.

She and her strategic counselors need to redefine her - make her gracious, open to the press, patient and less prone to the mean-girl responses we are so used to hearing and seeing.

Sarah needs to present an adult persona even if all she wants is the excitement of running. To win, she needs a major behavior rehab - it is doable if she can past her pride. She wouldn't even have to study much because her brain is not what attracts her followers - just grow up. Doing so would stun everyone else and give her credit for being more than she really is.

They may both be famously independent women with their own notable broods, but can you tell which memorable utterances from Sunday’s episode were said by Ms. Palin and which were spoken by Ms. Gosselin? (You probably can, but c’mon, try anyway.)

    1. “She’s got a lot of kids. Never having done this before, she’s going to rely on me to protect her. What is the gun that fits that?”

    2. [Indicating a bearskin rug.] “Was the tongue removable before? Because it is now. Put it back in, please.”

    3. “Being out and about in Alaska’s wilds, it’s more common than not to see somebody having some kind of weapon on their person. In fact, it’s probably as commonplace as if you’re walking around New York City and you see somebody with a BlackBerry on their hip.”

    4. “I’m back here as the trail sweeper, waiting to pick up bodies as I go.”

    5. [Indicating one of her children.] “I can beat that one up.”

    6. [After trying out a bear-hunting rifle.] “Well, that rubs the cheek, doesn’t it?”

    7. “We have an ax, a machete, but we don’t have a chainsaw.”

    8. [Discussing camping.] “Why would you pretend to be homeless? I don’t get it. I just don’t get the concept.”

    9. “Even though I’m the crazy one, supposedly, and everyone else is normal, if that requires being crazy, I’m crazy.”

    10. “I thought we were going to go camping with the [other family]. It turned out we didn’t. We had lunch with them on a sandbar.”

    11. “A lot of people across America probably think we are the biggest nerd family in America.”

I hate that this flash in the pan is still even in discussion when it comes to leading this country.

Sarah Palin is stupid, lazy, self-serving, small minded and heavy-handed.

She brings out the best and worst of all of us. In me, she's made me examine why I dislike her so intensely. Are conservative philosophies so bad? Is she right in that you don't have to be a pro-choice woman to be a feminist? To progress women's rights at the cost of personal freedom? But to be a freedom loving American we have to compromise our freedoms to make someone like her President?

Christ, this is why I dislike this woman so much.

At least I revisit issues that at one time I feel are black and white to see if there is a gray area. I am capable of changing my views, opinions and priorities with age and experience. This courtesy of introspection is lost on a provincial, artless and mean-spirited philistine like her.

She's brought out a nasty side of me, in wishing she fails in an epic way (although, since she still laughs her way to the bank, we all lose) but then she's also brought out the Freedom Loving Americaness out of me, in that I will stand up and shout out to keep moving this country forward, away from the likes of her.

Well, on one hand, any for-profit TV production is going to avoid the risk of damaging their shows reputation when possible, and it looks like that could likely be the case here. Is a TV show going to welcome a guest on their show who might put into the heads of the viewers that it's all pretty scammy? I doubt it.

But shunning any and all criticism is standard Palin practice. Posts that are anything but praise are wiped immediately from her Facebook page. I've been on there before and seen posts that could be from people who really like Palin, but are very mildly challenging something she had said or written. In less than a minute, they are gone. It's very creepy actually. If she had the power to do so, what she now calls the "lamestream" media would probably morph into "treasonous" media, and the only channel we'd be allowed to watch would be Fox. Even then, she'd probably disband it, replacing it with something that only broadcasts constant praise of "our Dear Sarah" or something of the sort you can only find in the most oppressive regime of North Korea.

She is truly a sick, twisted soul.

To Gas Man: I love you.

My azz Kate Gosselin represents blue state America. Kate represents privileged suburban housewives.

Blue staters urbanites are the ones who seem to be able to handle it anywhere. That's what the word cosmopolitan means ferchrissakes - "citizen of the world." They do quite well camping, hunting, rock climbing, backpacking, cross country skiing, REALLY back country activities, etc.

OTOH, red staters are generally only comfortable in their own little neck of the woods. Their lack of curiosity and militant willful ignorance makes them incapable of learning or having the humilty to hire someone to learn from.

    $carah is soooo stupid.

Sarah's true colors are once again beginning to shine through to those who have only seen her through the periphery over the past two years. "Her" latest book didn't get nearly the hype as the previous one, others are finally starting to speak out (although a little cautiously), more will soon step forward, and I imagine there are some who are holding onto some pretty juicy details but are waiting for the right moment to unveil them.

Her skeletons are piling up and there's no way she can keep that closet door from bursting open forever.

She will go down and go down hard. I will be there, laughing my ass off.

"I suppose if she took me to New York City or some red carpet event I'd be the same way." Who's she trying to kid. She plays one big game of dress-up for a self-selected audience. "Let's see, what do I feel like pretending today? I can be a huntress, madonna, career woman, marathon runner, beauty queen, faithful practitioner, average Joe, relief worker, policy expert, temptress, scholar, anything I want to be!"

Sarah cannot run even a first-timer camping trip without screwing up. Her intent to offend and insult the Gosselin family was blatant. Sarah DID think that her "base" would swallow the "I'm a camper" fantasy, but just like the "I'm a caribou killer" fiasco, a discerning viewer sees the faked performance.

Sarah Palin was a fraud as a mayor, governor, VEEP candidate, author, speaker, etc. And the TLC series is just one long video goldmine of Palin failing at one thing after another.

Palin is brainless enough to think her "reality" series is going well. She's that much of moron.

All her flying monkeys are melting.

Sarah promotes a world where death threats and threats of violence are acceptable.

There have been many instances of death threats and/or threats of violence by her minions when something is said about her that is not complimentary.

Not once has she CONDEMNED the threats. She either stays silent or denies that it happens.

Somewhere out there is a John Hinkley type who wants to impress Sarah Palin and will try to "take out" the president or some high official. Sarah, of course, will deny it had anything to do with her rhetoric or her attitude. And I wish the LMS media would start calling her by the correct term: ex-governor Palin, as in ex-president Nixon. When one resigns under pressure, they have no right to call themselves "governor" or even "former governor." And we know the truth: Sarah was about to feel the long arm of the law and she saw a chance to get ahead of the story and make some serious money. "Former" gives respect to a person who sees their duty through. Obviously, that is not the case with Sarah. She's an "Ex" with an axe to grind.

It doesn't take even a minute to order a hit. If you are the instigator you don't have to be there at all. The word is that Willow made the arrangements and was the ring leader. She knew the family and that they were not at home. Why did she hit on the Morlocks? They have been family friends for years.

thanks for sharing this. I refuse to go to Jezebel or any of the Gawker Media sites. I am appalled with their dangerous irresponsibility in the recent hacking.
I will never ever again go to one of their sites.

As I've told you before, Gryphen, I would like your place better without the trolls. I personally think we contribute to their sense of entitlement by treating them like people who actually have something to contribute (that's what allowing them to post implies). They have nothing to contribute. They taint this place.

I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say that the psychotic idiots making threats over a TV critic critizing a reality TV show are the same ones screaming "we're a Christian nation"

  54. "A lot of people across America probably think we're nerds because we love camping!"

Tell that, Sarah, to the people who live in Oregon. There, you will find some of the finest camping grounds in the US. Even John Kennedy, when he visited Honeyman State Park, was amazed at the beauty.

You, Sarah, are a first-class twit!

Has anyone watched the History Channel's The Rise of the Third Reich? Too many similarities of Palin and the Tea Party Movement or whatever the hell its called Toilet Paper Movement (flushed down the toilet drain). Too scary!

This proves she is nothing but a Demagogue. Did Obama's fans ever threaten newspeople? OR anyone?

I love the man but I never saw anyone Worship him the way her bots worship her, it is creepy.
