I spoke with the head of the reunion committee and she said that Sarah was just a shy girl, a completely unpopular loser, until senior year, when she met the love of her life, Todd. Todd brought her out of her shell, amusing and enlightening her with little skits where he would recruit his best middle school friend and pretend to harass and assault him for the color of his skin.
Sarah became committed to the cause of multiculturalism, absolutely lustful for it. She was determined to show that she had nothing but admiration for African Americans (behind closed doors, of course. Sarah was never a braggart).
I find it sad that people believe the lies told to that once highly respected, now obviously demonically possessed Joe McGinnis. Sarah was the jewel of Wasilla High and Todd was her Ali Baba. Since he swept her off her feet, Sarah hasn't even look at one single man.

Given that, I do think there *might* be a chance that this yearbook quote could have been taken out of context. Teenagers speak to their friends in ways that would make adults cringe. I've worked at a high school before and a greeting of "Hey, loser!" to a friend isn't exactly uncommon. It's usually meant ironically or because of some inside joke.
On the other hand...if Sister Sarah and this person didn't get along, then I'd completely agree with your interpretation of the post, down to the sarcastic use of "God bless". What a flippin' (wink, wink) bitch if that is the case!

ReplyDeleteI'm not going to argue with people who say Sarah's comment is just typical teen stuff, but I'm in my 60s, my children range from early 30s to 40s, and nothing that condescendingly vulgar was written in any of their yearbooks or mine. We are far from Puritans, but the raciest comment was along the lines of "Hope you get laid this summer," which showed up multiple times in my sons' yearbooks.

I went to high school in the eighties in a small town, filled with arguably "normal" Americans. Just like Sarah. And I kept my yearbooks.
ReplyDeleteNeither I, nor any of my friends, ever wrote something like that in anyone's yearbook. Even at 16, we all knew it would be a pathetic, stupid thing to write.
The only kids in my high school who would have called someone a "jerk off" for fun in an official yearbook are the ones who went to church with their parents, sucked up to the teachers, then got drunk, stole things, and bullied other kids when no one was looking. They were classless assholes who would be stuck in that town forever, and everyone knew it. (I was not bullied in high school, but I saw it happen.) None of them magically turned into a nice person later on, and none of them ever outgrew their immaturity. If one of those kids had ever run for public office, they would have turned into the kind of unqualified, money-grubbing liar that Sarah did.
I find a LOT in that little yearbook note. I don't think it's innocent, I don't think it's funny, and I don't think it's harmless. I DO think it shows us exactly the sort of childish, ill-mannered, and downright worthless piece of shit Sarah is... and always was.

He said he thought "maybe" Sarah misunderstood(?) when they were listening to "Barracuda", by HEART and this guy says, "Hey, Sarah, you know you look a little bit like Ann Wilson (from Heart).
Who knows where ANYTHING "comes from" in Palin-folklore...
This was actually the not Sarah gave to Bristol and Levi before giving her blessing of not caring or knowing what her kids did before that fateful camping trip.

I'm almost the same as as $carah: and we used to use "jerk-off" as an low-level insult equivalent to "jerk."

I have a friend whose dad used to call them "dildo" when they were being silly. Much later in life, they told him what it was - and he was mightily embarrassed.

Gryphen was being funny, in this particular context. Sarah is a fake Christian and a hypocrite, I wholeheartedly concur.
I realize there are quite a few here who are outright hostile toward religion and perhaps Christianity in particular, but I ask that people show a teeny bit of respect. There are people who say this and write this and mean it sincerely, and if it is used with someone who shares the same beliefs I don't see a problem with it.
Probably hopeless to ask for sensitivity on this.
Otherwise - very funny find; people don't change much and Sarah was the same sweetheart back then, obviously.
