Best Thanksgiving story of the day. Gabrielle Giffords helps serve holiday meal on military base in Tucson.

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player Courtesy of the Huffington Post:

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords helped serve a Thanksgiving meal to service members and retirees at a military base in her hometown of Tucson, Ariz.

Giffords arrived in the dining hall at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base at midday Thursday wearing a ball cap and an apron with her nickname of "Gabby" sewn on the front. She was accompanied by her retired astronaut husband, Mark Kelly, who also donned an apron.

Giffords used only her left hand as she served, a sign that physical damage remains from the injuries she suffered when she was shot in January.

Kelly supported her from her left side as she worked the turkey station on the serving line. He served ham.

Afterward, she mingled with service members, exchanging pleasantries and mostly one word greetings and responses.

She did tell Airman 1st Class Millie Gray, of Kansas City, Mo., "Happy Thanksgiving, thank you for your service."

Gray said she had intended to only grab a plate and head back to her dorm to eat, until she heard that Giffords was going to be there.

"She's such an inspiration and her story is so inspirational, it really made me proud. I felt very proud and very humble," Gray said. "It just feels really good to see that she is out here supporting the troops, and just continuing to be an inspiration and a strong role model for Americans in general.

I know we have much to be thankful for this holiday season, and one of those things is that this amazing woman survived that horrible day and continues to serve as an inspiration for all of us.

I bet Sarah is launching things at her fridge. Gabby, in true civil servants spirit, definately showed her and her poorly written 'everyone wants trig dead' masterpiece. Gabby is the real american role model of indomitable spirit.

  7. Harumph! You showcase the Democrat woman, but don't bother with Bohner, Cantor or McConnell spending time today feeding the poor and homeless and supporting the troops. And performing countless spontaneous acts of random kindness throughout the day. How about showing that? Double standard?

And then we have a Sarah Palin who sits on her ass and doesn't do a damned thing for others!!!

Yea, to Mark and Gabby for being the people that have provided for and given back to others (throughout the years and currently) in spite of the what happened to Gabby. I think they are an even stronger couple now and ones to be deeply admired.

And, Sarah, has a responsibility for what happened to Gabby (and the others) with her idiotic map and crosshairs that covered Gabby and her area of government.

Sarah has a place in hell awaiting her there is no doubt.

  11. I have to admit, just reading the story under the video brought tears to my eyes. Giffords and Kelly are everything the Palins aren't:

    Courageous, determined, generous, for starters.

Thanks, Gryphen, for showing the contrast so clearly. Th Giffords show such quiet class.

The grifter is nekulturny right out loud.

I'd like to mention how thankful I am that your blog is now defunct. Ever since it went under, there have been many, many new voices here.

Don't get me wrong, I loved it when it was up and running, but now that it's defunct, and has so many new visitors, it's even better.

You're the best, Gryphen. Thanks for all you do.

  13. hrh @3:16 PM, I did a Google search for "Boehner feeds the troops on Thanksgiving" and came up with nothing. Googled "Cantor feeds the troops on Thanksgiving", same thing. McConnell, ditto.

Did you make up your little rant against "the Democrat woman"?

Also Googled "Sarah Palin feeding the troops" and her bizarre message was the only reference that appeared.

Googled "President Obama feeds the troops on Thanksgiving", and found a story reporting he CALLED 10 representative service members this morning to express his and America's thanks and good wishes.

She's one classy lady (Gabby, not the crosshair bitch - for the few morons who praise Boehner and Cantor for their once a year photo op with poor people-)

Gabby and Mark exemplify the best America has to offer.

um HRH, Bohner, Cantor, or McConnel didn't get shot in the fucking head !!!! They have full facility of both left and right hands...they didn't have to learn how to talk, eat, walk, function again...
Comparing Gabby Giffords to Bohner, Cantor or any other congressman, hell, to compare her to any other person is just like comparing apples to space shuttles...

  16. Guess Palin was too busy pardoning another turkey to help serve a meal to the servicemen and women. Of course, she did send out that nasty Thanksgiving message blaming people for something they did not do. Just like her "blood libel" speech.

Wonder if her kids got a turkey? Probably not. Just burned Krap Dinner.

Palin is nothing more than a pile of fetid excrement. She is less than nothing. Palin exudes cowardice, weakness, vindictiveness, pettiness, and profound ignorance.

Gabby Giffords exudes class, determination, and amazing strength and resolve. And, even at this stage of her recovery, Giffords is more articulate than Palin.

Palin best keep her miasmic piehole shut in regards to Giffords. Few national figures are more respected or beloved than Giffords. Few national figures are reviled or despised more than Palin.

I think I suddenly feel pretty good about our country.

    Anon @ 3:16,
You REALLY want to put Bohner, Cantor or McConnell up against Gabby Giffords in some kind of national popularity contest right now? Do you REALLY think that the little photo op stunts by Bohner, Cantor or McConnell constitute heroism?

You strike me as being rather a chickenshit moron. Put to a vote against Giffords, your clowns lose by a factor of about 40 to 1. But YOU conflate hokey posing with heroism.

How many of the people do you think were inspired by Bohner, Cantor or McConnell? I'm betting none.

    Asshole.

Gabby the victim of Sarah Palin's gun sight cross hair rhetoric served others on Thanksgiving.

What did Sarah do? Well she wrote some bullshit about pride for only one of Bristol's children and we can understand why since Sarah's children grew up to be worthless to society with no personal ambitions.

Track understands what's going on. First Sarah praises you then she is ashamed of you after she gets called out on her lies that Track was a Combat Vet and that Sarah never raised a Combat Vet. Sarah raised a criminal who joined the services to avoid jail time for almost murdering dozens of kids by cutting school brake lines.

    That's our Sarah.

The only time Sarah and Bristol services anybody is for their own personal sexual gratification.

Of course, just as long as Todd gets his cut of the money.

Really? You need to coordinate your talking points with the other trolls. Don't you know you can't judge people you've never met? And I doubt that you have met all 400+ House members or all 100 senators.

    So what?

Gabby Giffords served a few soldiers dinner. Meanwhile, Sarah Palin sat down and wrote an inspirational Thanksgiving essay about god and trig that inspired millions of people.

And astronauts are wimps. You're not a real man unless you race little cars in the snow and pimp out your massage therapist.

  25. The juxtaposition between a true public servant like Gifford and a self-serving harridan like Palin stands on its own.
I think we're seeing the implosion of Palin. Her endorsement of whatever floater survives the GOP primary will be her last gasp of relevance. I predict a rather ugly meltdown for her and her family in the immediate wake of that particular "contribution".

CNN host Piers Morgan spoke with Gabrielle Giffords‘s husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, on Wednesday and discussed Sarah Palin‘s controversial crosshair map, which targeted the Congresswoman’s district. Kelly wrote in a new book that the former Alaska governor never reached out to them. “We were never contacted by her,” Kelly said.

“I find that extraordinary,” Morgan exclaimed.

“Yeah, I was surprised too,” Kelly replied. “You know, certainly the targets that she put over Gabby’s and other people’s districts, in our opinion, was not the right thing to do. She is not the first person to do that. And it hasn’t always been Republicans that have done that.”

...It is time for Sarah Palin to recognize that she is not the only one who faces a challenge, and her challenges pale in comparison to others. No longer can she play the victim “card” because she has a child with Downs syndrome. She has played that card too often. She lost the first time, and she is still the looser. Every time she attempts to paint herself as the victim, she simply reinforces the message that Trig is the victim, and not because he has Downs syndrome, but because Sarah is his mother.

Also, too, don't you know the meaning of -:)?

Didn't mean to raise your blood pressure on Thanksgiving. You probably experienced just that with those infrequently visiting, Fox-only-viewing relatives around the dinner table yesterday.
