Tucker Carlson: "The Tea Party has destroyed the Republican establishment."

Courtesy of Mediaite:

"Leaderless movements don’t endure because they can’t. This is basically a leaderless movement. But I think it’s had a huge effect, and its biggest effect that almost no one ever mentions is that the Tea Party destroyed the Republican establishment. All the people Republicans and conservatives have looked to for guidance have been basically discredited by the Tea Party, which has alllowed this current chaos to flower. That may be a good thing, it might be a bad thing. I don’t even know. But that is the legacy of the Tea Party. No more Washington establishment on the right."

So since Sarah Palin served as the face of the Teabaggers when they were struggling for recognition, and provided them access to the media, does this mean we need to send her "thank you" cards? Cause you KNOW she did not do this on purpose!

I imagine in her simplistic fashion she believed that ALL the Republicans needed to do was to elect a couple of criminally under educated politicians, with no ability to compromise, and they would "fix" what she, and people just as dimwitted as she, perceived as the problems in this country.

Instead, electing these Teabaggers did nothing except slam the brakes on any progress that could have possibly come out of Congress, helped define the Democrats as the only serious political party trying to help Americans, while forcing the current crop of Republican presidential hopefuls to embrace the most ignorant political points of view imaginable in a desperate attempt to seem even more like a crazy right wing loon than their  opponents, and hopefully earn the support of the Tea Party paint chip eaters in the process.

We progressives could not have planned it better if we had tried.

Gee thanks Sarah!

Who is that Alan Colmes?? I never watch faux so I have no idea who he is. But could he be more out of touch?? He says he thought the TP was @ #OWS? It seems to me that the Repugs are turning on the TP now that they realize that "movement" has done nothing but bring out the stupid.

The tea party brought a whole new level of stupid to the table. We're talking Everclear-proof-level stupid - just a wig hair short of 200 proof. Granny griftard was one of the primary standard bearers, what with her "death panel" idiocy and "pallin' around with terrorists" drivel (along with a whole gaggle of other brain numbing "screeching points").

I'm glad the gop is finally getting what's been coming to them. They've made a bad habit of pandering to the lowest common denominator for quite a while now. Guess it's time for them to dance with who brung 'em - a fat, ignorant, racist, fearful, xenophobic, fundamentalist, war mongering, greedy, poor spelling, hoverround riding bunch of morons.

Again, someone please kick McCain in the nuts. Fuck you, McCain.

The Tea Party simply helped a party that was already in shambles to implode.

    Poetic justice.

    Love it.

I beg to differ with your comment "Cause you KNOW she did not do this on purpose!", because every teabagger I have spoken to has made it explicitly clear: the very purpose of the Tea Party was to destroy the Republican Establishment. Yes, the establishment may not have seen it coming, but the baggers had this as their stated intention from the get-go. If you go back and read what they said, you'll see it for yourself. Moreover, I would say that given the sinister mentality of many on the right, even the establishment might not see this as an entirely bad thing. "What? Want more demagoguery and an even tighter police state with additional, targeted, hated groups? Glad to oblige."

I can only HOPE that ultimately this is good news for progressives, but I am not holding my breath by any means. It could still easily take a Hitlerian turn as circumstances in America continue to deteriorate, Congress continues to do nothing, every helpful solution is obstructed, public anger continues to mount, and the lies against Obama increase in their volume and venom. It ain't over 'til it's over, and I see nothing to cheer about.

    Ya think???

Tucker Carlson has always seen himself as a Buckley conservative yet he fanned the flames of the tea party long before the bonfire got going. This is just a small sample of his inability to self reflect. His ego is boundless and self destructive. Now we are supposed to feel his pain?

    Give me a break.

Well, I completely disagree. The Tea Party isn't leaderless nor has it destroyed the Republican Establishment. From its inception, it's been funded and manipulated by establishment billionaire Republicans! Seriously, how else do you think they can afford Sarah Palin's $100,000 fee to show up at their events???

Second, Tucker Carlson is wrong in that leaderless movements don't succeed. Looking back at all the big, truly history making movements, spokespersons and leaders emerged after the momentum took hold, but weren't concocted by a single leader.

I can't help but notice the media - and Tucker Carlson is part of the media - have been throwing around this "leaderless" meme lately. I believe they're trying to undermine OWS by doing so. They're getting worried, aren't they?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anonymous9:46 AM

What Tuck doesn't seem to grasp is that this is not a battle between a leaderless movement. It is a splinter of the GOP top leadership. The Koch Bros. and their pals vs. the old GOP, that it has a teabagger face is nothing more than top dressing on the shit sandwich that is the Koch brothers and their ilk.

**WORTH THE READ. YOU WILL LAUGH**
Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Southerner?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.

The answer can be found by posing the following question:
    ... ...
    You're walking down a
    Deserted street with your wife
    And two small children.

Suddenly, a Terrorist with a huge knife
    Comes around the corner,
    Locks eyes with you,
    Screams obscenities,
Raises the knife, and charges at you...

    You are carrying a
Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP, and you are an expert shot.
You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.
    What do you do?

    THINK CAREFULLY AND
    THEN SCROLL DOWN:

    Democrat's Answer:

    · Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!

    · What is a Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP?

    · Does the man look poor or oppressed?

    · Is he really a terrorist? Am I guilty of profiling?

    · Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?

    · Could we run away?

    · What does my wife think?
    · What about the kids?
    · Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
    · What does the law say about this situation?
    · Does the pistol have appropriate safety built into it?
    · Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
    · Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
    · Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
    · If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
    · Should I call 9-1-1?
    · Why is this street so deserted?
    · We need to raise taxes, have paint & weed day.
    · Can we make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
    · I need to debate this with some friends for a few days and try to come to a consensus.
    · This is all so confusing!

    ............ ......... ......... ......... ......... ......... ........ ......... .
    Republican's Answer:

    BANG!

    ............ ......... ......... ......... ......... ......... ........ ......

    Southerner's Answer:

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
    BANG ! BANG! BANG! BANG!
    Click..... (Sounds of reloading)
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!BANG!BANG!

    Schaeffer Cox at TPMMuckraker.

Schaeffer Cox is claiming he tried to be a government snitch!

Cox writes that he believes that Fulton and Bennet “fanned the flames of government overthrow” for an audience of 15 or more people “who had been primed that I had a plan for war very soon.”

He even claimed he contacted an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Fairbanks and told him that the two men were trying “to do something stupid” and that their attack plan “was inconsistent with our philosophy.” He said he did not give Fulton and Bennet’s names to the unnamed federal prosecutor.

Joe Miller and the DropZone arrest of Tony Hopfinger are mentioned. The picture is from the April 13 2009 rally at Denny's with Don Young standing next to Schaeffer Cox. This is where Young signed the manifesto drafted and presented by Cox.

@ 9:44, 'cause you're perfectly fine with how everything's going for America, right? 'Cause you have a job in the financial sector, perhaps, or in some other business in downtown Manhattan, and it's all good, right? 'Cause people shouldn't be bumming you out or slowing you down - you have important things to do and you aren't just lucky that you have a job, right? You earned it and you deserve it! Never mind the poor souls who have exactly your same education level, but perhaps not your connections or simply your good fortune. Never mind those who don't have the ability to pay for school, or now that they're out can't pay their loans. Again, it's all their fault, right? Wall Street speculation had nothing to do with the poor economy at all, right? Just corrupt Representatives in government? Yeah, that's the ticket....

You are inherently better than these protesters, and none of what they are saying has anything do to with you or your friends and loved ones, right?

Must be nice to be so completely self-centered and closed off to current events. The willful ignorance is all yours.

Wall Street money won't give a damn if people are just hassling representatives in DC. They do feel the pressure of these people in the street, outside their very windows. You are a clear example of that, actually, with your F&% off rant against the OW movement.

    About the NYC protesters:

"I am down there EVERYDAY, except when I'm dying of the plague (today)... And most of the people I have encountered have made me want to go to the town their from, squat in their parents driveways for months and walk into their houses, use their facilities, shower with their garden hose, pick the lemons off their trees and go back to play my drum in the shanty I set up outside.

I actually spoke with someone who said "oh yeah? We should occupy their atm vestibules! Thatll show em, thatll slow down their money flow. They'd be fucked!" Oh yeah, self-righteous parent-funded college kid? Who uses the atm to deposit their paychecks of measely hundreds and take out a 20 to pay for food and a ride home? The 1 percent? Yeah, that's where all of BofA's money lies. Not with the trader on the floor of the exchange who moves 30 mil a day, and who could lose 10 mil if he takes a shit between 930 and 4pm?!?

This is not 'sending a message to them'. They're laughing at you. Want to send a message? It requires a trip down the 95 and marching on Washington, not squatting for months on the 99 percents city tax money and disrupting local businesses like mine in Lower Manhattan.

Plus I want my McDonalds back. It smells like patchouli and B-O.

The dismaying level of ignorance among average Americans is matched by the cynical willingness of politicians and their backers to exploit it, with the mass media caring for nothing but the entertainment value of the game.

It's nice to think that this dismal Republican field will guarantee a second term for Obama next year, but will he get a Congress he can work with? And what happens after Obama and his personal charisma are out of the picture?

Interesting if there starts to be huge tension between the floor trader guys trying to get into work, many of whom went straight to Wall Street without college, and the OWS folks, many of whom are college educated. Almost like the tension between some of the cops and the protesters. There's not a lot of patience or tolerance for what the OWS people are trying to do. It's an old story, a class thing.

This is not an easy fight. As usual, people sympathize with the wrong side and vote against their own best interests primarily because of a superficial and overly simplistic identification with the Republican Party. Or they are Republicans simply because they are racist, or they don't want to pay more taxes. Not paying more taxes doesn't begin to cover the issues at hand. But they just can't see that.

The vast majority of these complainers should be supporting the protesters. I would be interested to know what a floor trader actually makes. I bet many make far less than we think. It's the people at the other end of the phones that are the 1%ers, correct? The traders just get commissions or something.

I don't know much about how it works.

Are they going to show up in massive numbers to vote in 2012 and flip the House and increase the number of liberals in the Senate? Are they going to focus on specific members of congress who have allowed Wall Street and corporations to fleece America? Are they going to put direct pressure on Democrats and move them to the left like the Tea Party moved Rs to the right? If they are going to just keeping occupying cities without a plan of action ordinary citizens are going to get fed up. Their poll numbers are already going down.
