Michelle Obama talking to supporters in Washington D.C.

'Here's the thing about my husband: even in the toughest moments, when it seems like all is lost, Barack Obama never loses sight of the end goal. He never lets himself get distracted by the chatter and the noise, even if it comes from some of his best supporters. He just keeps moving forward.

And in those moments when we're all sweating it, when we're worried that the bill won't pass or the negotiation will fall through, Barack always reminds me that we're playing a long game here. He reminds me that change is slow—it doesn't happen overnight.

If we keep showing up, if we keep fighting the good fight and doing what we know is right, then eventually we will get there.

    We always have.'

First Lady Michelle Obama Virginia Tech Commencement Blacksburg Virginia (May 11, 2012)

First lady Michelle Obama urged Virginia Tech's graduates to create new communities and continue to serve others. She addressed more than 5,000 graduates and their relatives and friends at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg Friday. The first lady noted Virginia Tech's resilience in the face of several incidents of campus violence, including the 2007 massacre that left 33 dead. She told graduates that they shouldn't let others define the school by the tragedy, but instead emphasize the character and success of its alumni. She also urged the students to invent their own futures and live life on their own terms.

I know this is cold of me, but I don't really give a toss about Piper, Trig, and Tripp.

There are too many kids out there who are more interesting, with better potential and certainly better genes.

Three little rednecks (and yes, Trig can be called a redneck, too)who are being fed and clothed would not be of interest to any of us but for their unfortunate relative.

    ^ What they said.

When someone is elected President, their spouse gets tremendous responsibility and loss of privacy thrust upon them by default. Mrs. Obama has accepted the burden with grace, style and compassion and become a person I'm proud to have representing me around the world.

Michelle Obama is stunning and vibrant. Her smile makes me smile just because it's so obviously genuine! Just like her relationship with President Obama. I am genuinely proud to have Barack and Michelle Obama representing our country to the rest of the world.

Somewhere, in an alternative universe, there's a video of President Palin... images flickering across the screen with "Cat Scratch Fever" playing in the background. There's a pic of President Palin shooting a possum on the White House lawn, while her kids & hubby look on... red Solo cups filled with beer and diet pepsi... Inspiring Single Mom Bristol, about to give birth to her 4th child and has already picked out the name "Formica Dinette Palin"... and there's the First Dude, getting a lap-dance from his personal assistant... the Presidential Hum-Vee is on blocks in front lawn... and our dear President has placed the winning bid on eBay for Imelda Marcos' shoe collection.

Well, that's what we WOULD see if Congress hadn't eliminated the Minimum Wage, and we weren't all fighting for a 3rd job making $2.75 an hour in hopes of feeding our families. But we're just too tired to turn on our PCs and connect to the Internet. But hey! Gas is only $2.99 a gallon!

So Happy Mother's Day, Alternative Universe Palin!

When Obama speaks of the women in his life, you hear the respect for the challenges they face as well as deep, genuine admiration for their strengths. You hear compassion and honor for their struggles and their character. When this President speaks about Mother’s Day, it’s not tokenism or patronizingly making one day about moms, while ignoring their needs the rest of the year.

We have our first President raised by a single mother, brought up to respect women for their strength and their love. As the daughter of a single mother who worked so hard to provide opportunities for me, this President’s insight into the real needs of families and of single mothers moves me beyond words. Mothers have been the silent warriors for real family values for too long, unseen by those making the policy decisions.

We finally have our first President who really gets it, because he lived it.
