I am not a huge fan of The View, but I did watch this whole segment and thought the President looked very calm and cool, as usual.
He also seemed to really enjoy the banter and for the most part the ladies were all very polite, and perhaps a little starstruck. And the women in the audience LOVED him.
However even though Hasselbeck commented early in the show that she had talked with the President backstage and found him very charming, she still apparently felt the need to carry water for the GOP and tried to trip the President up a few times.
At one point Hasselbeck tried to make the case that essentially the President and Mitt Romney shared the same views as it pertains to gay marriage.
But the President was having NONE of that:
Hasselbeck wanted to know how he would approach the issue differently now. She argued that he and Mitt Romney "actually agreed personally on the definition of marriage" until last week. She wondered how Obama would "move things forward any more than Mitt Romney in terms of leaving it to the states. Because at this point, you both said leave it to the states to decide."
"Elisabeth, that's actually not true," Obama responded. "OK," Hasselbeck replied.
Obama said that Romney wanted a "constitutional amendment," which "federalizes" a ban on gay marriage.
Yeah saying that you support gay marriage, as opposed to being someone who supports the idea of a federal ban on gay marriage, is not exactly "agreeing personally." But nice try Elizabeth!
Okay now I don't like her again.
(P.S. If you want to watch the entire episode just click here.)
Gryph, the video doesn't play.
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand why he hates America so much.
ReplyDeleteHuh? I think you hate him, troll. Get over it. Your racist, unpatriotic panties are showing. Second term is coming!
DeleteAnd we don't understand why the GOP hates America, women, workers, children, public education, teachers, immigrants, blacks, Hispanics, the poor, seniors...tell us, why do you hate everyone but rich white males?
DeleteIs that you ignorant undereducated Sarah? Or are you GED Bristol?
DeleteWell, Sally, actually we do understand. Women are to serve the GOP men - they want their maids/sex slaves back in the kitchen and NOT competing with men for jobs. Workers - well labor is an expense in on the books and capitalism is all about decreasing expenses. Children?not all children just those of liberals and people of color. Public education - educated people don't fall for their shit, the dumber the electorate is, the better the GOP's chances - see Mississippi, Texas and Georgia. .
DeleteYou can add Nebraska to that list now.
DeleteEver since Barack Obama appeared on the national stage, there has never been a moment when he did not express his love for this country. He has such a wonderful way of approaching people - from children to senior citizens, from members of the military to college athletes, from all walks of life and from all ethnic backgrounds. We've been so lucky to have him be president; I support him wholeheartedly for reelection. But we must also give him a solidly Democratic Congress!
DeleteBeaglemom
""Elisabeth, that's actually not true," Obama responded."
ReplyDeleteHow perfect is that?
Someone else may have already posted a link to this, but it's worth reading, it reiterates and confirms the universal acknowledgement that Sarah Palin was a disastrous pick for McCain, she deep-sixed his already iffy bid for President, was unvetted, unprepared, divisive, and simply awful. The fact that I've read at least a dozen blogs and articles in just this week alone that says the very same thing confirms that this is now accepted knowledge, across the board for small segment of the citizenry who are vocal, rigid, angry, bigoted Evangelicals.
ReplyDeleteIt took awhile, but she talked long enough and stupid enough to make it too clear to ignore, and the news media and bloggers have lost their reticence and tell it like it is: the Sarah Palin pick was the now prime example of what kind of person not to pick.
The funny thing is if she'd kept her mouth shut, finished her work as Governor with competence, and studied up, she had a shot at being a person of substance. But we lost her at competence....
Well said. My only addition is that persons of substance have the ability to see beyond themselves. She will never be one, nor her family.
DeleteAgreed, but remember $arah for who she really is:
DeleteA savagely partisan egocentric raving maniac, out for fame and money, and for throwing many, many people under the bus as she clawed and pandered her way to being the 1/2 term quitter.
Her crimes, ethics violations, and profound moral failings, have not been forgotten.
Kudos to Gryphen for never failing to sleuth out her truly vicious nature, and expose it for the world to see.
Yeah, and that idiotic Brissie blog is just another scam to promote a reality show and try to convince the public she's politically savvy. SNORT!
DeleteThese people's LIVES reflect who they really are.
NO, you lost her at "work."
DeleteI forgot to add the link to the latest of many, many "Sarah Palin" is what not to pick...

1) Hasselbeck is NOT smart enough as a human to be engaging Obama ON ANY SUBJECT.
ReplyDelete2) She really needs to move to Kansas where she would fit right in...
Elizabeth really needs to be muzzled. President Obama handled her snarky, accusatory tone with aplomb!
ReplyDeleteI CAN'T WAIT TO VOTE FOR HIM AGAIN!
Me too, can't wait to vote to re-elect President Obama!!
DeleteLess than a week after President Barack Obama made history by endorsing same-sex marriage, the president would not commit to fighting to have the Defense of Marriage Act, commonly known as DOMA, be repealed. In an interview on ABC's "The View" Mr. Obama reiterated his administration's decision to stop defending the law in the courts. "My justice department has said to the courts we don’t think the defense of marriage act is constitutional this is something that historically had been determined at the state level, and part of my believing ultimately that civil unions weren’t sufficient." But pressed further if he would fight to repeal DOMA, Mr. Obama would only say, "Congress is clearly on notice that I think it’s a bad idea."
ReplyDeletehttp://whitehouse.blogs.cnn.com/2012/05/14/potus-weighs-in-on-doma-and-jp-morgan-chase/
And I agree with our President, is IS a bad idea.
Watching the video you can see President Obama is comfortable and relating to the people around him. But with Romney it's painful to watch him trying his best to be focused and trying to relate to those in his presence. Romney always comes across as if he were wishing he was somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteYIKES...does this mean that Meh Rmoney is going to be on The View soon?
DeleteProbably...because I remember when McShame and his trophy...er...wife were on there and then the trophy...er...I mean...Cindy said that the ladies "raked them over the coals" on some interview later on.
Lord...how stiff and uncomfortable will Meh and Ann be sitting there with Joy, Sherrie and Whoopie?
Barbara and the Blonde will probably have to do the interview and Meh will probably be given lines to read...stiffly of course!
Ann will probably come out wrapped in some kind of hypo allergenic outfit...you know the germs and all! LOL!!!
Romney doesn't want to get any of our low-class dirt on him.
DeleteI thought the questions of our President were idiotic - especially the one from Elizabeth!!!
ReplyDeleteHe seemed to me to put up with it because he had to! Barbara Walters has really lost her edge. It's time she retire!
Barbara Walters has never had an edge. I've never seen her do a solid journalistic interview in my life. I'm not sure how she got where she got in life, but it was not because she was a good journalist.
DeleteHasselbecks's gravitas and claim to fame?
ReplyDelete1) be born with some sex appeal, check
2) appear on a thinly disguised soft porn reality show, check
3) marry some famous athlete, check
4) land a spot on daytime TV spewing vapid horseshit, shilling for the GOP and religious right?
Hasselbeck: yet one more uneducated, religious, and highly ignorant woman like Christine O'donnell, Palin, Bachmann, and Sharron Angle who's famous for idiocy
3)
Elizabeth H. is not the brightest light on the stage.
DeleteElisabeth was telling those same lies the day before, but nobody spoke up to correct her, so I was really happy President Obama was able to address it this morning.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I thought they were all pretty respectful to the president, outside of that one incident.
O/T, but the man who "vetted" Sarah for the VP slot, A.B. Culvahouse, has written an editorial in the New York Times defending how he investigated her for McCain.
ReplyDeleteThe C4P website quotes this article SELECTIVELY and omits the part where he says she was NOT prepared to be Veep. (It's actually kind of hilarious the way C4P omits the negative stuff about Sarah.)
Nevertheless, Culvahouse stands by his vetting process, saying it was as good as it could have been given the time they were allowed.

Notice Culvahouse never names those partners. I think if we knew who they were, it would explain a LOT.
DeleteWait a minute. Schmidt told Allen that Palin had been vetted for SIX MONTHS.
Deletehttp://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13111.html
O/T if you get a chance please post a link to Levi on tv tonight. I heard it announced on the radio. Suppose to be a revealing interview of his new in laws and what they think of Sarah Palin.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that "let the states decide" is a bullshit dodge. Sometimes it is the government's duty to step in and set standards and protections to ensure all Americans are treated equally and fairly.
ReplyDeleteWhere would Barack (and all the rest of America) be right now if Lincoln had just "let the states decide"?
I agree with you in principal, but it's also how we integrated schools. The states went so far as to violate Federal Civil Rights, and the Federal Gov't eventually stepped in. Of course it wasn't soon enough - it never is - but it's further along than he was two weeks ago.
DeleteI can't believe that little nitwit thinks she has the smarts to debate President Obama.
ReplyDeleteAnd, FWIW, when is Barbara Walters going to realize how poorly allowing a mental midget like Hasselbeck to appear daily on her program reflects upon her?
If I were a woman and I knew I was going to interview the POTUS I would never wear as short a skirt as the one Hasselbeck did. That just does not seem proper.
