Here let's brighten your day a little.

I think we can finally put this whole "enthusiasm gap" nonsense to bed, don't you think?

And if THAT is not enough to brighten your day here is a list of reasons why the country IS better off today under President Obama.

Need a little more? How about the softer, less political side of the President?

Courtesy of The New York Times:

President Obama was schmoozing his way around the sports bar Gator’s Dockside, chatting up families and posing for photos as part of his campaign bus tour of Florida on Saturday night, when he stopped at a table of 10 people, including several children.

“He was born in Hawaii,” one woman said, pointing to a blond boy down the table.

The president lit up and flashed the Hawaiian shaka hand sign, which the boy — Andre Wupperman, who will be 7 next week — returned.

“You were born in Hawaii?” Mr. Obama asked, then broke out into a smile. “You have a birth certificate?”

Are you smiling?

Good now you have yourself a pleasant Sunday. And remember, "Yes we can!"

But ONLY if we keep focused on the prize.

    Awesome!
You know, I am from Canada and I'm not naive enough to know and understand that it is important for Canadians to want Obama in govt. We took the same hit here in the Bush years as most Americans did. Our most prosperous years here for average income earners were when Clinton was in office. Then it took about 5 years for us to start feeling the real affect of the Bush govt. It just kept spiralling downhill from then. My husband has been affected in his job just like the pulp and paper and car companies. My children have been affected as well in their professions. One lay off after another. I've been affected as well within the Real Estate industry that I work in. My daughter-in-law has been affected in her teaching, going from a class room of 25 kids to over 30 kids. We need more teachers. What I see is that the Republicans have really stuck it to the average working person that makes an average wage in both the U.S. and Canada.
My son works in the oil sands of Alberta, he makes great money but I don't want our country to be so oil driven that the oil companies are the driving force of our country. His stories of ripping up the earth for oil aren't nice. Alternative energy is the way to day. PBO message is a great message for North America. We have to start thinking and educating our children for a different future, a new education and a different world from what we were raised.

I hope that Canadians reject the Conservatives come the next election cycle. Their austerity mindset is disastrous everywhere in the world.

We used to live near Detroit and told people that we were becoming culturally Canadian: theatre at Stratford, Ont., CBC-2 radio (after the Detroit classical music station radically changed its format), and CBC television for news and TV-Ontario for better public television than we were getting on PBS. Our move away from the Detroit area left us saddened. We still try to get to Stratford at least every other year (where we can watch TVO) and I know that CBC-2 has changed its format also but we miss knowing as much about Canadian politics as we used to.

Hey folks, here's marieANNtoinette Romney, your wanna be first lady:

“Mitt and I do recognize that we have not had a financial struggle in our lives,” the Republican presidential nominee’s wife explained. “But I want people to believe in their hearts that we know what it is like to struggle. And our struggles have not been financial, but they have been with health and with difficulties in different things in life.”

    1. Yeah, like which of their several homes they will live in this week. Or which designers shoes she will wear today. You know, the ones that cost your mortgage payment. And don't forget Ann's challenges regarding her dancing horse. Oh, the difficulty of flying that horse all around for competitions. But, it's a good write-off - more than most people make in a year. Yeah, life has been so difficult.

Meanwhile the "with different things in life" from Ann Romney..."let me just press my elevator button to bring up my cadillac to my 4th floor, take me down to the abused horses on the ground floor, and sell that lame horse for thousands of dollars"

You know, I am really wondering how Ann Romney is making out on this campaign trail. She has MS and apparently stress is very hard on a person with MS. But then again, I guess she has the best healthcare that no other person with MS could ever have. I wonder how much money they have spent out of their millions and millions of dollars to keep her healthy and stable for this campaign.

Every time she opens her mouth, my skin crawls. Either she's harping about having MS or bitching about people being jealous of their wealth.

Ann doesn't know how good she has it.

AND, he is a Republican, white, business owner in Florida!

Of his embrace, Van Duzer said: “I was overwhelmed when I saw him.”

He said Obama had his vote.

Obama entered the shop saying, "Scott, let me tell you, you are like the biggest pizza shop owner I've ever seen," according to a White House pool report.

Van Duzer, 46, is a big guy: He is 6' 3" tall and weighs 260 pounds.

After Obama was lifted up, he said "Look at that!" Man are you a powerlifter or what?"

He continued, according to the pool, talking about Van Duzer's big muscles.

"Everybody look at these guns," he said. "If I eat your pizza will I look like that?"

Van Duzer, by the way, is a registered Republican who voted for Obama in 2008 and says he will do so again in November.

"I don't vote party line, I vote who I feel comfortable with, and I do feel extremely comfortable with him," he told the press pool.

O/T Yesterday I had an uncomfortable conversation about politics with a Florida republican. There was a good amount of information exchanged and I feel good that I was heard. I was prepared with facts and examples and motivated with concern rather than pride. I don't have a stage or a megaphone, but I do have Facebook and a number of contacts from swing states. I listen to Nancy Keenan (NARAL) speak at an Obama rally in Seattle and during the DNC when she suggested we all reach out to the right and independents on an individual basis. It is hard and uncomfortable, but when we discovered common ground it became a more productive discussion and ended on a positive note. I'm not sure if I changed a vote, but I did challenge some false ideas with solid facts. Maybe this will take root and I plan to keep feeding the discussion. Anyway- I'm really tired of divisive politics dividing me from the people I care about. At the same time, I can't pretend this giant crevasse doesn't exist so I sorta pointed right at it and went from there. Just thought I'd share and hopefully nudge you all to do more of the same.

We need more people like you! Sometimes we may not change anyone's mind, but at least we plant the seed of doubt in their mind. Just like President Obama "Asked" people for their vote, I always "Ask" people to at least consider hearing me out when I do phone work for OFA. People love to be asked and are usually more receptive because you're connecting on a human level and being reasonable.

Even Republicans are saying it: The GOP Senate takeover they all thought was almost a sure thing a year ago now looks like a coin flip at best.

POLITICO surveyed more than a dozen top Republican strategists last week to gauge the party’s outlook for the upper chamber coming out of the conventions and into the election home stretch. None called the task impossible, but most said the path to the Senate majority is much narrower than even a few months ago.

Ooh, this brightened my day too! It's so gratifying to see the way that people just LOVE our president so much that they can barely contain their joy at being around him. The man looks utterly blissed out.

    HUGS!

Obama gets a bear hug from Florida pizza shop owner
En route to a rally in West Palm Beach on Sunday, Obama stopped by the Big Apple Pizza & Pasta Restaurant in Fort Pierce and met with the owner Scott Van Duzer.

"Scott, what's going on, man?" Obama shouted to Van Duzer as he came through the door, according to pool reporter Reid Epstein. "Scott, let me tell you, you are like the biggest pizza shop owner I've ever seen."

The president then approached Van Duzer, 46, of Port St. Lucie, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 260 pounds.

"Everybody look at these guns," Obama said, pointing to Van Duzer's muscles. "If I eat your pizza, will I look like that?"

The two men laughed. They embraced, and Van Duzer lifted Obama about a foot off the ground.

"Look at that!" Obama exclaimed, once back on firm ground. "Man, are you a power-lifter or what?"

Obama said he decided to stop by Van Duzer's restaurant because the restaurateur had done some record-breaking work promoting blood donations in his community. Van Duzer has received commendations from the White House and U.S. Surgeon General.

"I still wonder how he got these biceps, but what we know is that the guy's just got a big heart along with big pecs," Obama said. "So we're very proud of him and we just want to say thank you for all the great work."

By the way, Van Duzer says he's a Republican who voted for Obama in 2008, and will vote for him again in 2012.

I think things on President Obama's side are much, much better than is being indicated by the media. The majority of channels on TV lean to the Republican side and I just turn them off. Cable is going the same way!!!

Thank God we had the Democratic Convention which was so well done and so, so many are coming out of it w/the eagerness to promote voting to friends and family members. We learned more of the FACTS and are ready to discuss issues with others! The wonderful speakers at the Convention empowered us!!

I've already talked w/two that were not going to vote and I convinced them that their vote does count. Also, brought their attention to what Romney wants to do with Obama Care (repeal it on his first day in office - if elected - heaven forbid!)and how it would effect them should that occur.

Talk to others, folks! If you didn't watch the speakers at the Democratic Convention, make sure you do as they are repeating them on TV. They were so educational and wonderful.

I watched the Republican Convention too and there was no comparison between the two. So, so much more happiness and joyfulness on the Democatic side. Loved, loved, loved, Michelle Obama and President Clinton. Could not take my attention away from either one of them! President Obama and VP Joe Biden were outstanding too as was Joe's darling wife, Dr. Biden! Yea!!!

If the 2012 election included France and Germany, President Barack Obama might be able to breathe a bit easier.

An overwhelming majority in those countries -- 92 percent and 89 percent, respectively -- would like to see Obama re-elected, according to a poll released Wednesday by the Pew Research Center, which surveyed people in 21 countries. More than two-thirds of those polled in Britain, Spain, Italy and the Czech Republic also supported his re-election.

    Confessions of a Former Republican

...My old Republican worldview was flawed because it was based upon a small and particularly rosy sliver of reality. To preserve that worldview, I had to believe that people had morally earned their “just” desserts, and I had to ignore those whining liberals who tried to point out that the world didn’t actually work that way. I think this shows why Republicans put so much effort into “creat[ing] our own reality,” into fostering distrust of liberals, experts, scientists, and academics, and why they won’t let a campaign “be dictated by fact-checkers” (as a Romney pollster put it). It explains why study after study shows -- examples here, here, and here -- that avid consumers of Republican-oriented media are more poorly informed than people who use other news sources or don’t bother to follow the news at all.

Waking up to a fuller spectrum of reality has proved long and painful. I had to question all my assumptions, unlearn so much of what I had learned. I came to understand why we Republicans thought people on the Left always seemed to be screeching angrily (because we refused to open our eyes to the damage we caused or blamed the victims) and why they never seemed to have any solutions to offer (because those weren’t mentioned in the media we read or watched).

My transition has significantly strained my relationships with family, friends, and former colleagues. It is deeply upsetting to walk on thin ice where there used to be solid, common ground. I wish they, too, would come to see a fuller spectrum of reality, but I know from experience how hard that can be when your worldview won’t let you.

Do read the entire article, it's a very eyeopening, insightful and intelligent one.
