As I am sure most of you know the election is over, and President Obama DESTROYED Mitt Romney. In fact he joins Dwight Eisenhower and GOP idol Ronald Reagan as the ONLY President to win over 50% of the popular vote twice.
So all good right? We can now move on and start the business of governing. Sure there will be some hurt feelings and Republican tantrums but they will just have to get over it, right?
Not right.
Get this. Judson Phillips, who founded the Tea Party Nation (The ONLY Tea party group to be labeled a hate group by the SPLC by the way.), and who famously suggested that ONLY property owners should be allowed to vote, has decided that all is not lost.
This is what he said: (Warning link takes you to World Net Daily, which is NOT a place you would enjoy visiting.)
We have one last, final chance to save America. We have one last, final chance to stop Barack Obama. One final chance.
What is this final chance? Will the Republicans step up to the plate and do what is necessary?
Barack Obama has not yet been re-elected president.
Yes, the election is over – but remember, a presidential election in America is not by popular vote. We vote for the candidate, but what we are really doing is voting for the electors who will meet on the Monday after the second Wednesday in December.
That is when the actual re-election of the president occurs.
Is there a way to stop this?
Yes, there is.
And the best part – this is totally constitutional.
The 12th Amendment of the Constitution as well as Article II of the Constitution govern the Electoral College.
According to the 12th Amendment, for the Electoral College to be able to select the president, it must have a quorum of two-thirds of the states voting. If enough states refuse to participate, the Electoral College will not have a quorum. If the Electoral College does not have a quorum or otherwise cannot vote or decide, then the responsibility for selecting the president and vice president devolves to the Congress.
The House of Representatives selects the president and the Senate selects the vice president.
Since the Republicans hold a majority in the House, presumably they would vote for Mitt Romney, and the Democrats in the Senate would vote for Joe Biden for vice president.
I know what you're thinking, "That's both crazy AND un-American." Yes, yes it is.
Not only is it crazy, it is essentially treasonous in that it would violate the rights of the American voters to select their President. Not that such a thing is new for a party that tried to suppress voter turnout, challenge voters they did not like at the polling stations, and then steal their votes after they were cast. In effect this is simply the logical next step for a desperate group of people who care little for democracy and ONLY about retaining power.
Will it work? No, that is incredibly unlikely.
Just as unlikely in fact as any of those states who signed secession petitions being granted that option.
This is just another example of how crazed the Right Wing have become when faced with the reality that they are losing power and that their plans to hijack this election did not work out.
However what I find ironic is that THESE are the people constantly crying out about having their rights stolen. Yet they seem to feel no compunction with robbing the Americans who overwhelmingly voted for the President of the right to have their votes count.
The fact that this action would rip the country apart and result in anarchy does not seem to bother this asshat one little bit, which I think says a lot about HIS patriotism. Apparently in the world of the Right Wing only REAL Americans have rights, and THEY are defined by the fact that they agree with the people like Judson Phillips.
Can I say again how incredibly happy I am that Barack Obama won this election, and that on January 20th, 2013 he WILL be worn in as our President?
If I've said it once I've said it thousands of times, their hypocrisy knows no bounds. It just proves how stupid they truly are.
ReplyDeleteBut...the Senate would elect Barack Obama as the Vice President. Of course he and Mitt would work very well together.
ReplyDeleteThe idiot who wrote that crap misread the Constitution. The 2/3rds quorum is only required if no candidate has a majority of the electors's votes. Obama clearly has a whopping majority. Another reading comprehension FAIL for the baggers.
ReplyDeleteMy God. My mom sent me a photo of my 8th grade niece in Texas, in her band uniform, reciting a prayer she and her mom wrote for the Veteran's Day assembly. Of course, I had to ask how that is even legal, and good old mom sent my email to my brother. I got yet another rant about how in Texas, unlike mean old liberal schools up north, they 'respect everyone and care about everyone, even the parents who voted for Obama." Really? So if her Christian prayer offended a Muslim or a Jew, how is that 'caring?' I'm sure, like my sister, I'll get no response from him. And it makes me sad that all the right has is name-calling, even to family members (4 years ago, I was a 'tree-hugging liberal who didn;t care about jobs" when I voted for Obama.)
ReplyDeleteSo one more sibling lost to the GOP. Sad.
And that's why the Rethugs ran on 'JOBS' in 2010 winning seats in the House and the first bill they slammed through -- about abortion.
DeleteYea -- the Rethugs really think about 'jobs' --- NOT.
Sorry to hear your brother's head is up his ass and he's suffocated.
They'll tell you everyone in the school must be Christian since no Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists or Atheists objected.
DeleteAll the Baggers and Rethugs I unfortunately have to see and listen too -- one thing they have in common -- they don't have a freakin' clue what the Constitution says. Like the Rethugs in elections -- they make it up to suit themselves.
ReplyDeleteThe GOP will lose in 2014 and 2016. Here's why.
ReplyDeleteI have been reading all kinds of articles in which various members of the GOP blustered and blithered and bleated about why Mittens lost, and why other "sure wins" lost. I have read all of them with a smirk. The GOP still doesn't GET IT. And that is why they will lose in the next midterm and Presidential elections.

Well, we KNEW Oily Tits would be on the case:
ReplyDeleteOrly Taitz Asks For Volunteers To Help Challenge Obama Reelection
Birther activist Orly Taitz has posted a call on her website for volunteers to help compile a list of state officials with whom she plans to file objections regarding President Barack Obama's reelection.
Taitz made the call twice on her website over the weekend, saying that she needs volunteers to put together a list of contact information for state secretaries of state and attoneys general. In her latest effort to block Obama's reelection, Taitz plans to send a written objection to the seating of presidential electors for Obama in advance of the formal Dec. 17 Electoral College vote.
Taitz wrote:
In order to serve all electors who will vote for Obama on December 12, I need the addresses of the Secretaries of State and Attorney Generals of the states who voted for Obama. I remember that the difference was 1-2%, but I don’t remember how many states exactly voted for Obama. I need to figure the exact number of the states and serve them through the Attorney Generals of those states, as they became the state elected officials, which means they will have to be served through the Attorney Generals. I believe I need to serve the AGs only of the states that went to Obama, but just to be on the safe side I need the list of R AGs as well
I anticipate that it will be a mess and a half, but someone has to do it, as our spineless GOP leaders are only good at asking for money and doing nothing.
Prior to this post, Taitz wrote another post listing the states that Obama won and where she is asking for assistance gathering names of officials in those states.
In her post, Taitz' reference to "state elected officials" is likely referring to the chief elections officer of a state, which is a duty of the secretary of state in 36 states. Most states vest the authority under the secretary of state, lieutenant governor or a state elections agency, according to a list compiled by the U.S. Department of State. None of the states are listed as having the state attorney general perform the duties.
Taitz also used the post to outline her belief that she can have Obama removed as the Democratic presidential nominee in Mississippi, a state he lost to former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Taitz is currently engaged in a court battle regarding Obama's eligibility in Mississippi.
Last week, Taitz described her work on the birther movement as "superhuman" and said she has worked "24/7" for the past four years.
Taitz also wrote that she fears courts not investigating her claims about Obama could lead to a "popular revolt" and states seceding.

There's a reason that site is called WingNutDelusional by sane people who've inadvertently landed there.
ReplyDeleteI think Phillips doesn't understand the meaning of the word quorum.
ReplyDeleteHere it's written that "for the Electoral College to be able to select the president, it must have a quorum of two-thirds of the states voting. If enough states refuse to participate, the Electoral College will not have a quorum." This doesn't mean that two-thirds of the states had to be taken by one candidate, only that at least two-thirds of the states had to take part.
No states refused to participate in the election. If over a third of states had refused to participate, only then would Congress be involved in selecting a President.
Well, all of the blue states that voted for Obama would go.
DeleteThat means the one third that didn't go would all be red states.
Could they get enough red states to refuse to go?
I kinda doubt it. Not even the red states are going to deny their people the right to vote.
So Obama would still be elected.
Still not right. "If no person have such majority", THEN the quorum rule applies. So if the red state electors refuse to participate - even if ALL of them refuse - Obama still wins. He has the majority of the votes.
DeleteThis stupid Judson Phillips has a serious confirmation bias combined with low reading comprehension. The whole tirade is nothing more that an ignorant rant with only the dregs of the birthers, racists, tea partiers and storm troopers (yeah, I know, different words for the same people) clinging to a straw in the face of a landslide.

I seriously wish someone would grab these damned idiot Birthers, - ESPECIALLY THE STUPID ONE WITH THE RUG ON HIS HEAD! - shake them until their teeth rattle so we have their attention and then inform them AGAIN that it is the responsibility of the candidate's STATE to verify eligibility, not the candidate!

DeleteProblem is many of the real nutters don't have many teeth left. It's THEIR self-created problem. Lots of Psych Docs out there to help them but if these numbnuts don't see themselves as they really are, then they have no reason to change. I'm over getting upset that they don't listen. I'm sure they didn't know their head from their ass in high school and never attended college. That's their choice to be ignorant AND uneducated, because they think they know it all. Fuck 'em. I'm just going to continue to laugh at their stupidity until they either change or STFU and go back underground to their KKK cave.
The untold truth behind the GOP election meltdown
ReplyDelete...But then my laughter turned to confusion and then sadness as I began to process what he was really trying to say to me. I obviously understood he was in mourning over the loss but as I dwelled on this brief exchange, I began to realize that it's about much more than his candidate simply not winning and far beyond any political party. This was much deeper than all of that.
What Bob had really lost in this election was his vision of America. The vision that had been preserved since before he was born and the vision he grew up fighting to preserve. Now, we're not talking about a "Romney" vision of America where it's about making the rich, richer with more trickle down economics. No, he was talking about an America of, by and for white people. With the re-election of Barack Obama, he saw his vision of America crumble for good and it's the same vision that all of conservatism saw crumble.
The depths of depression and soul searching going on in the GOP is rooted in that thinking. For them it's the same. It's not just losing an election. This election was special. This election was for all the marbles but not because they want to cut spending or balance the budget for fear of rising debt. No, that's just a smoke screen for the agenda that has survived for way too long.
This election represented the last desperate hope to retain that iron fist grip of racist American leadership. The hope that in Obama's defeat, minorities would not get the even playing field or ladders of opportunity. That through continued racist leadership, minorities would continue to be oppressed and barred from entering into and equally participating in their exclusive, whites only club called "America".
You can also look at the actions of the right since the election, to further absorb this truth. Conservatives don't change unless they have to. They are upset because they realize with the realities of demographics that they have to welcome in blacks, latinos, single women (sluts as they call them) and homosexuals. They are upset because they have to welcome into their party the very people they not only despise but seek to destroy. What a terrible predicament they find themselves in. How do you reach out to people you hate?

Judson does know that women, gays, blacks, hispanics, atheists can all own property. Right?
ReplyDeleteOr maybe the same mind that came up with this believes that only old white christian heterosexual men can own property.
I lay this at the door of Sarah Palin, the Koch Brothers, all Fox commentators, past and present, and right wing hate speech radio. They are responsible for the tea baggers and all of the fringe mentally challenged hate groups now causing such a divide in this country.
So you tell me there IS one final way for you to steal the election? First... tell me again about how patriotic you are, please...
ReplyDelete"he WILL be worn in as our President?"
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised he's not worn out, but I think you meant sworn in!
