Former Giffords staff member, Ron Barber, wins Gabby's Congressional seat after extremely tight race.

Courtesy of The Hill:

Democratic Rep. Ron Barber has won a full term in Arizona's 2nd District after narrowly defeating Republican Martha McSally, the Associated Press said Saturday.

Barber was the district director for Democratic Rep. Gabby Giffords and was wounded in the mass shooting in 2011 that killed six people and seriously injured the congresswoman. Giffords stepped down earlier this year to focus on her recovery.

Giffords endorsed Barber, who won a special election in June to fill the remainder of her term.

His bid for a full term, however, proved to be excruciatingly close. Both Barber and McSally held leads after election night and, by late Friday, Barber had a 1,402-vote margin with more than 285,000 votes cast in the race.

The AP determined that with only 15,000 provisional ballots left to be counted in Pima County, McSally would be unable to overcome Barber's lead.

Chalk another one up for the good guys.

Well this should certainly make a certain Wasilla whack-a-doodle a little pissy today.

Which of course just makes the victory all the more delicious.

Nate Silver said AZ had the possibility of being a swing state in 2012. Almost.

It will be a swing state in 2016.

    Texas is next.

The McCain Backpedal on Benghazi Begins

McCain’s attempt to use these tragic deaths to attack “the administration” is grossly offensive and transparently craven, as is his pretense that he is doing this on behalf of the families and friends who lost their loved ones. Rather, McCain acts in his own self-interest, replete with the bitter sour grapes of a sore loser. His behavior on this deeply sensitive matter is harming his alleged purpose, not helping.

I'm glad to see he won. I'm sure he will do a very good job representing Arizona. And yes, I do hope the Wicked Witch of the North is not too happy with the final results.

    Great to hear!
Poor Sarah must be anxiously awaiting tomorrow's news. I hear drinking a lot of milk is good luck - She's busy preparing a "milk libel" you tube rant, while Todd polishes her "elsie the cow" necklace.
