Parenting in Wal-Mart.

Whenever I hear one of those pro-Life assholes talking about how every child should be born I think about this kind of thing. There are people in the world who simply should NOT procreate.

I know that may sound harsh but it has been my job to cleanup their messes for the last fifteen years and I am sick and tired of watching people turn perfectly healthy and loving babies into broken, angry, and suicidal teenagers.

This kind of shaming has long term effects. This boy may not have bruises covering his body, but there is no doubt that he has bruises covering his heart.

Oh....how so very sad this picture is. Not a surprise it was taken at Walmart....I could not agree with you more about this type of parenting. The social media is our hope to break this chain of bullshit spewed by the religious fanatics....young people are being exposed to the world as it is, not the lies of their parents. It surprises me there is not a massive exodus from these oppressive states...you are crazy to live in the 3rd world GOP lands.

I agree. Watched a color slideshow from NYC in 1939 on HuffPo the other day, and by far the most comments addressed how well the people were dressed and how slim they were compared to today. It was true; Americans are far more obese (=abuse of body) and less well dressed when going out. Sad :(

That is the saddest parenting I have ever seen. Publicly shaming one’s child makes so much sense? Thanks for the very honest comments regarding irresponsible parenting. There should be mandatory parenting classes in high school. Parenting is the hardest job in the world and our culture does not discuss this in any rational way. Few parents prepare their children for a productive and happy adulthood. Many simply believe “life happens” and adopt beliefs to maintain this attitude. When they do so they avoid responsibility and the rewards of an examined life. Somehow many of us believe as soon as our reproductive organs mature we are capable to parent. This a major cultural misstep that will take our country to ruin. I too have witnessed the results of parents abusing their children emotionally, physically and financially while being tasked to make their children whole seven hours a day, while the other 17 hours these precious beings are at the mercy of their abusers. It makes me sick and weary.

That's a good idea to have parenting classes in high school. I would also like to see a refresher class taken when people get their marriage license. And if any child gets in trouble with the law, an evaluation/education for their parents should be mandatory. It would reduce a lot of crime and the prison population. Prevention should always be the goal.

Not to beat a dead horse....WalMart is a cancer that has infested the world. The constant media attention to the low wage issue is shameful, the multi billionaire family costing the taxpayers millions of dollars in aiding full time workers just to barely live. I can not believe this was Sam Waltons dream...to screw everybody and everything in order for profit, this includes sponsoring sweat shops in India.

How often that happens...someone starts a business and takes pride in being ethical, fair and providing a high-quality product or service.

Their children, however, become all too accustomed to living like royalty and get greedy. Soon, the company is employing shameful practices in pursuit of the almighty profit, while the founder is spinning in their grave.

Here’s What Happened While The NRA Told Parents Not To Lock Up Their Guns

May was the deadliest month for children since Newtown, and in a continuation of a horrific trend, there were shootings by children as young as two years old, of children as young as. Despite the mounting body count, no one has asked the National Rifle Association why they tell parents not to lock up their guns, or even reported that the NRA tells parents not to lock up their guns.

    2. I was watching a local news program where several Milwaukee-area citizens talked about the issue of gun control. The host asked one of the panelists-a gun owner-about what training he had done now that he owned a gun. He answered that he didn't have much because he was busy with eight kids.

My head nearly exploded. If you have eight kids and own a gun you better get all the training available and then some. I probably have more training to use a hot glue gun than this idiot.

Gryphen, why are you making apologies about people who should not procreate? For a long time people thought having children was a right that did not neccesarily carry serious responsibility if they chose not to do that. Raising "their" children to be emotionally healthy as well as physically healthy is not on some people's bucket list. Children to some are like a Gucci purse or a car. They think they own them and can do what they like to them. Just because someone can physically procreate doesn't mean they should. When we get past the idea that making babies are not just a human right---but an important responsibility to the world, we might have a lot less crazy around us.

I see things like this and know that child protective services should be called in. If they gave the kid a black eye in the middle of Walmart---everyone would be all over that. But abusing his psyche , not so much.

While I agree with you that professionals should be called in if abuse is obvious, I suspect people fear getting sued or being violently attacked either verbally or physically. Parents such as these do not seem to have thoughtful approaches to situations and certainnly do not think about consequences.

I work in a city public school and for years I have said that we have many adults in our school community who reproduce, but who do NOT parent.

      There is a big difference.

Unfortunately, the ones who reproduce also tend to be the ones who do it repeatedly, even after their first children are removed from the home by CPS.

Lying, in and of itself, is not necessarily a bad thing.

It is the intent and motive behind the lie that makes it good are bad.

Almost all children lie because they are afraid of the consequences.

This poor child probably lied to his very own mother and father because he was afraid of them.

    Rightfully so.

Some people were born to fix things that leave most of us feeling helpless.

The group One Million Moms has joined the backlash against SheZow, a gender-bending cartoon superhero for kids that debuted in the United States this weekend. Like Focus on the Family, OMM expressed concern that the cartoon would confuse children, but went a step further and condemned the idea that any child should ever aspire to be a girl who saves the world:

There is no doubt this superhero character will confuse kids. Children desire to be just like superheroes and will mimic a superhero’s every action, even to the point of dressing up in costumes to resemble the characters as much as possible. It won’t be long before little boys are saying, “I want to be a girl, so I can help people and save the world!”

Christian parents don’t need a TV show to contribute to what might be a real problem for some children. Loving your child is to teach them right from wrong and find help when they need it. We are all sinners, but we try to do better and get help when and where we need it in our lives. Thousands of Christian counselors and pastors are available all across the country to help anyone who is struggling with any kind of sin including homosexuality, gender identity disorder, gender confusion or gender dysphoria.

OMM’s promotion of ex-gay and ex-trans ministries is offensive, but par for the course. The idea that a girl saving the world would be “a real problem for some children” — for a boy or otherwise — speaks to the patriarchal values at the core of conservative arguments. For an organization that supposedly represents the strength and importance of women to families, this rhetoric greatly undermines female empowerment.

In reality, One Millions Moms is a subsidiary of the American Family Association, an anti-LGBT hate group, and likely isn’t even made up of moms, let alone one million of them.

Lynda Carter's portrayal of her WonderWoman character didn't make me want to become a girl who saved the world. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Seeing Wonder Woman in her suit with the big gold orbs protruding from her chest made me and a couple of my fellow incoming sophomore high school buddies want to stay up to watch a B-movie, Bobbie Joe & the Outlaw, starring a glimpse of Lynda Carter's boobs.

It was on HBO at 1 or 2 in the morning, and we started two-a-days the next morning at 6:30. I remember to this day all the running and sweating and puking and then running some more in the heat and humidity in the heart of Dixie in late July heat. But the visions of those massive boobs made it easier for three of us to gut it out among the 125 or so boys that tried to make the team. By the third game, I was a starter at tailback and later at Strong Safety, and I owe a lot of my athletic success to seeing Lynda Carter without a shirt on. After watching that movie, we no longer had to "wonder" what was inside those big gold cups that Wonder Woman sported. Yes, they were real, and I will always have fond memories of those mammaries.

BTW, considering the way that Sarah Palin imitates Wonder Woman by wearing her own PowerBand Fake Patriotic Bracelet and Sarah's Belmont Girls Fake Tits TM, Sarah was obviously impressed, also, too.

But Lynda Carter's were real, Sarah. And Sarah's are fake, just like everything else about her.

Conservatives Condemn Gender-Bending ‘SheZow’ Cartoon For Promoting ‘Gender Confusion’

The Australian kids cartoon SheZow will debut this Saturday here in the United States on The Hub (formerly Discovery Kids). It features a 12-year-old boy who finds a magic ring that transforms him into a legendary crime-fighting superhero, SheZow, who happens to be a girl. Focus on the Family is not happy about this gender-bending message for kids, as explained by the organization’s resident ex-gay, Jeff Johnston:

JOHNSTON: SheZow presents at a pop-culture level what transgender activists believe and what some academics have taught for years: that gender is completely socially constructed and that people can change genders… Instead of giving kids good role models to follow, this cartoon reflects our culture’s confusion about the two sexes, and kids don’t need that confused message.

Johnston regularly uses his platform at Focus on the Family’s CitizenLink outlet to trash transgender identities. He believes that trans identities are not “healthy” and are “problematic psychologically,” even suggesting that gender variation can be caused by sexual abuse. He also denies that gender is socially constructed and separate from sex, merely because none of the “other genders” can “replicate itself.” Focus on the Family regularly promotes ex-trans ministries, encouraging the use of shame to reject trans identities.

Despite its gender-bending premise, SheZow is not even about a transgender character. Instead, it simply sends the message that it’s okay to stray outside the rigid lines of gender norms, a sentiment which could go far to help reduce anti-LGBT bullying. Watch the show’s descriptive intro:

A Lake County, Florida couple have been arrested on charges of child neglect after a 4-year-old shot off a piece of his finger with a gun that was left on their couch, WKMG Local 6 reports.

Donald Greeson, 40, told police he had smoked marijuana and took prescription pills the day before the shooting incident. Police also found drugs and prescription pills within reach of the child. In addition to child neglect, Donald Greeson was also charged with "unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine," according to WKMG Local 6.

The child's finger was removed in a local hospital.

What is happening to that child in that picture is horrifying. Even more horrifying is knowing some children are suffering much worse with no hope of rescue.

I stopped taking my children to WalMart for a few years when they were young, because, invariably, if we were in the toy department, at least one other family would be engaging in shouting, slapping, crying. My children are not saints, but they didn't get yelled at or touched in anger, and they were confused by what they were seeing and hearing. I didn't think it was my place to speak to the angry parents, although I wish there'd been a way for me to do so.

My son once asked: "If they do that in a store, what do they do to their children at home?" I didn't want to give him a real answer, because I can only imagine the pain and suffering that many minors experience as punching bags for their frustrated, angry, out-of-control parents.

If they don't, then you know that, despite loving their families, they're in thrall to the small-minded theocracy that claims falsely that it's "All-American."
