Democratic darling Wendy Davis takes on Tea Party terrorist Ted Cruz.

Courtesy of Keye TV:

State Sen. Wendy Davis, the Democratic candidate for Texas governor, criticized Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday for his role in the recent federal government shutdown, saying he harmed average citizens just to score political points.

"I think he demonstrated that being the loudest person in the room isn’t necessarily equivalent to being a leader,” Davis said. "I was disappointed to see that he was willing to put so many thousands of Texas families in harm’s way for purposes of making a political statement.”

Davis’ remarks, made outside an early voting location for the constitutional amendment election, amounted to her harshest assessment yet of the Tea Party-backed Republican. During her appearance at the Texas Tribune Festival last month, before the shutdown and debt ceiling brinkmanship roiled Washington, Davis noted that she and Cruz "agree on some things” and said politicians shouldn’t be afraid to say that.

Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier fired back, saying the senator's efforts to stop the Affordable Care Act were justified. She also favorably compared what Cruz did with Davis' summer filibuster of a restrictive abortion bill. The legislation, which eventually passed, includes a ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

"I think most Texans would agree that fighting to give them relief from a law that’s killing their health plans and hiking their insurance rates is a statement worth fighting for, as opposed to platforms centered on killing unborn babies after 20 weeks,” Frazier said.

Davis rejected comparisons between her actions and those of Cruz and other Republicans who tried to gain concessions on Obamacare by withholding funding for the government and opposing an extension of the nation’s debt limit.

"I was attempting to block a bill that would have harmed thousands of women across the state of Texas,” she said. "Never once, of course, did I threaten to literally shut down the state government for that purpose, and I certainly would never use the budget in the state of Texas for purposes of making a political statement.”

In the shutdown fight, Davis said thousands of Texans were harmed, and she called for a more bipartisan approach in budgetary negotiations.

"The concern is that we literally got to the brink of financial disaster. Political gamemanship overtook common sense,” she said.

You know my all time favorite fantasy for a debate between to individuals would be Rachel Maddow VS Sarah Palin, which would be akin to a bug hitting a car windshield at 60 mph, however I have to admit that the idea of a Wendy Davis using her pink sneakers to kick the crap out of Ted Cruz is also pretty tantalizing.

I don't think that Cruz would stand much of a chance, and I also think that every time Davis takes him on she demonstrates her integrity and will attract more support from those infamous hard to motivate liberal voters in Texas.

My hope is that she will continue to goad him into these little back and forths, and use them to get national media attention, while also showing the people of Texas that they don't have to keep electing under-evolved Neanderthals, like Rick Perry, to lead their state.

By the way Harry Reid actually, kind of, endorsed the idea of Ted Cruz as the GOP nominee in 2016:

“If I didn’t care so much about our country, I would hope he would get the Republican nomination for president, because that would mean the end of the Republican Party.”

Maybe if we keep our fingers crossed, this will be the reality.

Remember that the State of Texas is NOT all red! Austin (the capitol!) is actually majority blue!!!

Hang in there, Wendy! Continue knocking the crap out of the Cuban - he's friggin' nuts! The United States of America is watching and wants Texas and other red states (i.e. Alaska) to hid the skids!!

Americans - pay attention for whom you vote. Knock these Republican/Teabaggers AWAY every chance you get!

Sen. Ted Cruz’s Father: Send Obama ‘Back to Kenya’

During the home stretch of his son Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) campaign for the U.S. Senate, Rafael Cruz told a Texas tea party gathering that they needed to “send Barack Obama back to Kenya,” according to a video released by Mother Jones’ David Corn—the journalist who scooped Mitt Romney’s “47%” video.

After an exegesis on various U.N. encroachments onto U.S. law, Cruz named Obama as one of the organization’s big supporters. “So we have our work cut out for us,” Cruz said. “We need to send Barack Obama back to Chicago. I’d like to send him back to Kenya.”

Ted Cruz had pulled an upset victory over David Dewhurst in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate and was coasting to victory in the general election. Nonetheless, his father encouraged the Hood County Tea Party in September on 2012 to vote straight-ticket Republican, and spoke of the urgent need for the GOP to take back the Senate and thus have influence over Supreme Court appointments.

When asked for a comment on the quotes, Cruz’s office asked for citations, and when provided with them said, “These selective quotes, taken out of context, mischaracterize the substance of Pastor Cruz’s message. Like many Americans, he feels America is on the wrong track.” They added: “Pastor Cruz does not speak for the senator.”

He DOES speak for his son, he even stumped on his behalf. Where's the "moderate" republican outrage? Rafie Jr. needs to address this properly, not send a woman out to lie for him.

Put your man pants on Rafie Jr!

"Go Wendy" sums it up, and "Gone Cruz, Elder and Younger" needs to be voiced all over progressive lands.

Well, on this, I would have to say I disagree.

Why should any intelligent, thoughtful, educated person that is actually working long, hard hours to contribute their time, talent, and treasure to this country waste one minute of their precious time debating a moronic, two-bit, trashy, classless, uneducated imbecile that has nothing whatsoever of value to contribute to society just so she can strut and preen and brag about being that person's equal?

Can someone please explain to me how the ACA can hike someone's insurance premium rates? If they are purchasing insurance outside of the exchanges, how is Obamacare responsible for that rate hike?

Do they expect us to believe that Obamacare, and not the insurance company, is setting the premiums for that policy?

This makes no sense to me. None of their arguments against Obamacare make sense.

I'm slow but I fail to see how “We need to send Barack Obama back to Chicago. I’d like to send him back to Kenya.” can look like anything other than idiot birtherism in any context. The substance of "Pastor" Cruz' message is thinly veiled racism. And this from a guy who lived in the US for many (was it 30?) years without becoming a citizen. Can we send him back to Cuba? Why do these faux christians like Cruz, his smarmy son, Bachmann, Palin, Lyin' Ryan (the list is endless) bring out the worst in me?

Cruz is now throwing the old man under the bus.
" He doesn't speak for the Senator ".
The guy who doesn't speak for the Senator was introduced by Cruz at every Tea Party rally
to cheers and standing Os because Cruz described him as his hero and inspiration.
    Now, it's Pastor Who ?

Why not just ask the honorable Senator, "What was your father's reaction when you told him you didn't share his views?"

Mr. Royal Caribbean Carnival Cruz should go back to Canada, since he is a still a citizen and he can also begin to reimburse the American taxpayers our $24 billion with his Jamaican investments. He is so patriotic he keeps his money in a foreign country.
