Another one bites the dust as judge strikes down Oregon gay marriage ban.

Courtesy of ABC News:

A federal judge on Monday struck down Oregon's voter-approved ban on gay marriage, saying it is unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Michael McShane said the ban unconstitutionally discriminates against same-sex couples and ordered the state not to enforce it. State officials earlier refused to defend the constitutional ban in court.

McShane joined judges in seven other states who have struck down gay marriage bans, though appeals are underway.

This must be what it was like when women were getting the vote, and slavery was coming to an end.

Just pockets of angry people desperately fighting against an unstoppable change that they refused to accept.

Ten years from now people will wonder what all the fuss was about.

As Same Sex Marriage Bans Crumble, Republican Bigots Cling to Homophobia

A bigot is someone who, as a result of their prejudices, treats other people with fear, distrust, or hatred on the basis of a person’s race, religion, gender, disability, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation. There is a segment of the American population that cannot, and will not, overcome their bigotry under any circumstances and there is no greater degree of bigotry than that of evangelical fundamentalists and their hatred of gays. As most of America understands that in this country all citizens are equal and entitled to the same rights and privileges as every other American, there are still religious bigots that cannot accept the Constitution’s guarantee of equality for all Americans. In fact, next to racial bigotry, it is safe to say bigotry permeating the evangelical movement is rampant and although Mormons are not exactly evangelicals, they are certainly bigoted against gays; particularly if they want to marry the person they love.

The National Organization for Marriage is going to come at 'em again and has until late August according to this morning's news. Again, someone explain to me how this corrupts traditional marriage. All I saw were a bunch of tearful, joyous people finally given equal status..............

Ten years? There are still lots of people who don't accept the outcome of the Civil War. Good luck with ten years....good luck with 147 years, even. Come on, you're asking people to give up their hate. Hate is all that gets some people through the night.

There was a tweet about this yesterday: "States that allow same-sex marriage: 18. States that allow cousins to marry: 25. We're catching up!!"

    Just awesome.

Go Oregon! I can't wait for the day when it's simply called "love" and "marriage" and this state by state nonsense stops.
