Ex-pastor starts "church" for non-believers and local Christian respond with love and support. Just kidding, they left threatening notes in their mailbox.

Courtesy of the Friendly Atheist:

My friend and ex-pastor Jerry DeWitt runs a monthly secular gathering in Lake Charles, Louisiana called Community Mission Chapel. It’s one of the more successful “atheist churches,” drawing in a sizable number of atheists who appreciate the camaraderie.

Hemant Mehta then reports that the two notes up above were left in one of the attending families mailbox.

Here is what they say for those who cannot enlarge them enough to see:

We know who you are. We know where you live. We know where you work. You’re little group of devil worshippers isn’t welcome here. Let the love and message of the Lord filter through you and may you escape from the eternal damnation that you have condemned you and you’re innocent children to. Repent you’re Satanistic ways or you will find that the Lord works in VERY mysterious ways. You are against God and are not welcome in this area and we WILL spread his message to the hearts and minds of your innocent children. To deny His word to your children is abuse, and if you do not learn to love Him and His word then we will have no choice but to take action to protect your children from your devil-enabling ways. Do not even try to report this to the police — we are every where and His work will be done in His name thru us, the true beleivers.
…
You could not keep away from it, could you? You and your group are infecting this area and driving THE ONE TRUE GOD out. We have warned you before. We are warning you again. We will stop you any way we have too. He has misterious ways. Keep you’re family close.

You know if you feel that you need to threaten people in order to get them to join your religion, you are following the wrong religion.

And yes I am looking at you as welll Islam.

"One true God." Hmmm, seems to me that such statements infer the disavowal of any other gods, thus making atheists of all such fanatics.

    I love logic.

They should report to the Postal Office! Mail tampering! Nobody touches or puts things in mail boxes that are not mail! Especially "threat" letters!
      Such good xtians.
      Bastards.
I hope the church Community Mission Chapel has a lesson on it. "This is how we don't want to act and why we are all gathered here"!
This is a USA and we have freedom to believe or not.
Over 3 peeps gathering can be called a church. Look at Scientology for example. They were not a "church" until recently. Why aren't the bastards putting hate mail in their mail boxes?

100% correct 7:07 ! It is illegal for anyone but Postal Service employees to put anything in or on a mailbox.

Identity is just one of the many reasons it is illegal for Joe Blow to walk around opening mailboxes for any reason.

dear grammer queen troll, please start your own blog and you can show examples of bad grammer and how superior you are for catching them or better yet apply for editorial job somewhere.

      Why all the anger?

The inability to properly use the English language seems to be all too common among poorly educated fundamentalists and right wing conservatives.

In addition, it makes your (not you're) message that much less effective when you cannot write correctly.

I don't understand why peope get so angry when someone points out a grammar error. They've done it to me a few times and because English is my second language I appreciate feedback, why mangle the language?

  4. In her first Newsweek column following 9/11, the brilliant Anna Quindlen wrote something that has never left my memory, word for word:

"Anything can happen when human beings allow ideology to trump their humanity, when they elevate an idea above the lives of individuals." Posts of this type of news point out again radical Muslim extremists are hardly the only guilty group, and depressingly, make me wonder if we've learned a fucking thing since.

::: singing::: For you know they are Christians by their love, by their love...

It's very telling that these mouth-breathers are so terrified of a group of people who are...gathering quietly and minding their own business. You have to wonder (spoiler; no you don't) if the local stamp collectors' club is getting these kind of threats. Or the local chapter of the knitting club (like Stitch & Bitch). Or the Bunco clubs.

Could have been written by the KKK 90 years ago. Probably written by a current KKK member. They cannot tolerate any deviance from their "beliefs," and hounded blacks, as well as Jews, Catholics, Jehovah's Witnesses, Quakers, atheists, and anyone who looked different or talked differently.
The Teabaggers are a political expression of the KKK philosophy. Sarah is their saint. She just needs a hood, although t would mess up her God-given-and-enhanced hairdo.

These kind don't know Jesus. They command the church to seek God's love all the while threatening them? Sick and twisted. What this is, is fanatical religious phariseeical dogmatic man-made hate-inspired domestic terroristism.

They've taken on a form of godliness, proclaimed themselves as little gods, judges, and it's the stuff that the Inquisition was made of.

That's what christians have done for thousands of years so I don't know why you are shocked or trying to defend a religion that has condoned this behavior for this long. Religions were only developed to control the masses, keep people in their stations of life so the poor wouldn't rebel, used as an excuse to kill others. That IS the history of christianity and every other major religion. The ONLY true "religions" or belief systems that developed frreely are those found in small populations not influenced by control and those would be the few tribal religions that are all based on the earth and taking care of the earth. Jesus never was, he never was alive, the bible is crap, stolen from Egyptian stories and (gasp) part of the Koran. Get a clue, christianity is nothing but a scam to control the masses. And, if you don't agree with me then do your own research and you will find out I am correct.

I recently read an article - think it was in Time - about atheists forming groups who meet on a regular basis. First I had heard of it - but it makes sense. It provides a safe place for people to share their life experiences.
As to these people harassing this particular group - I think Anonymous 3:26 has a good response.

My pastor's wife mentioned that to me, as my son lives in Houston, and the article talked about that area. She's worried that they don't have a church down there. They are busy six days a week and need Sunday to catch up, frankly. I don't blame them for not getting involved with the holy rollers down there. Bad enough that the public schools insist on everyone saying "under God" not once, but twice, as they say the US Pledge to the piece of cloth and then the TEXAS pledge to the other piece of cloth and then another to their school. Not sure what would happen is the kids refused...I'm betting it would not sit well.

Love the misspellings...kind of dilutes your message when you can't use your or you're correctly, and can't even spell the mysterious ways of your Lord and Savior properly. Not to mention that the message of Jesus is one of peace and acceptance of all. He is ashamed of you morally bereft people who have to threaten and hate...and you talk about taking away their kids? So you can what? Indoctrinate them yourself? Pitiful. Just pitiful.

Jesus Christ on a unicycle! Not only is he and Atheist, he's now Anton La Vey reicarnated! I love the part where they say they know who he is, where he lives, etc. HELLO! Assclowns. He knows who you are, where you live, who you're steuping on the side and he knows your spouses as well.

Yeah, whatever you do, do not get the Police involved. Don't dare let them know we threatened you in this letter. We got God on our side, you Devil worhipper you!!

Almost laughable as satire, but these nutz mean business. Lucky thing they didn't mention the FBI or he'd really be shaking in his Birkenstocks.
