The Koch brothers and conservative PAC's are spending millions to defeat Mark Begich in Alaska. So here come the labor unions to the rescue.

Courtesy of Mother Jones:

Republicans' most likely path to retaking the Senate in November requires GOPers to pick up seats in six key states: Alaska, Arkansas, Louisiana, Montana, South Dakota, and West Virginia. Of the six, Alaska—where Democratic Sen. Mark Begich is facing off against former Republican Attorney General Dan Sullivan—may be the closest race. That's why right-wing groups backed by the likes of the Koch brothers and Karl Rove are dumping millions into the state—and why Alaska unions are pulling out all the stops this year to make sure Begich, a fierce supporter of labor, carries the day.

"This is literally the most active we've ever been in an election cycle," says Vince Beltrami, the president of the Alaska AFL-CIO, which represents nearly all unions in the state.

Union members have been working the phones, pushing out mailings, and canvassing on behalf of Begich. Volunteers have even taken the unusual step of door-knocking in areas far outside of Alaska's urban centers, says Jerry McBeath, a professor of political science at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Because of the unprecedented level of campaign action this year, Beltrami says, the AFL-CIO had to rent out an extra 7,000-square-foot warehouse.

The giant push by labor this year comes not only because the race is one of the most competitive in the country and could decide which party controls the Senate. The wave of union action is also a backlash against the onslaught of money pouring into the state in support of Sullivan from the billionaire Koch brothers' dark-money group Americans for Prosperity and GOP operative Karl Rove's super-PAC, American Crossroads. The groups—which support the rollback of collective bargaining rights and back right-to-work laws, which prevent unions from compelling employees to join or pay dues to a union—are dumping money into the Alaska Senate race for the first time ever.

"They're up here on the airwaves 24 hours a day, seven days a week, trying to tie Mark to Obama," Beltrami says. "They say things 50 times a day on the airwaves that aren't true. You gotta push back."

Don't forget these are ALASKAN union members fighting against forces outside of our state throwing truckloads of money at this election in order to elect an outsider who will jump through any flaming hoop they hold up for him.

We are fighting for our very lives up here, and this is absolutely a David and Goliath story of a local Anchorage man facing off against giants of industry willing to bury him under a mountain of campaign spending.

I know Vince though, and if this thing can be turned around with good hard work and a never say die attitude then he and his union brothers and sisters are certainly the ones to make that happen.

I find it interesting that the Cock brothers didn't enlist the help of Alaska's beloved Sarah Palin to help defeat Mark Begich in her home state of Alaska.

Someone should be pushing that, big time! Even if she doesn't endorse him they do have quite a connection.

Yes, the silence is deafening and should be a big clue about how the GOP really feel about her heinous.

The Alaska Republican party wants nothing to do w/her and the Republican candidates know her endorsement would be the kiss of death!

The majority in Alaska would be happy to never hear of the Palin klan every again!

Same thing in Arizona between Ron Barber and Marth McSally. The Democrats have now come out with a series of ads tieing her to her backers - the Koch brothers and all the dark money they are pouring into the election.

  3. To my surprise, I got my first cell phone political call yesterday. It wasn't a robocall, because the man left a message that it was a political call, and he might call back. He didn't, but now I am pretty sure it was from these guys. I'm glad they're jumping in for Mark. (My absentee ballot went in the mail over the weekend.)

I got one too, on my cell phone! The reason I no longer have a land line is because of this kind of crap! I don't answer my cell unless it's a known caller so they won't get any info from me.

    Koch donors uncloaked

...While the Kochs’ political operation is often portrayed as being entirely supported by the billionaire brothers, roughly 650 donors combined to contribute the more than $15 million raised by the super PAC’s from its June creation through the end of September. The majority of the donations were smaller than the $200 threshold that triggers FEC disclosure requirements, and as such, aren’t listed in the report, which doesn’t include continued brisk fundraising this month, during which Freedom Partners spokesman James Davis said the PAC was expecting to bring in an additional $10 million.

The ability to quickly corral such a robust war chest for a type of political spending that was once dominated by the Republican Party and its big-name operatives like Karl Rove further demonstrates the Koch network’s evolution from a guerrilla band on the libertarian fringes of the right to arguably the preeminent force in conservative politics.

Parents with especially talented skaters or with enough money or both often do what the Palins eventually did with Track Palin: Write a check and send him to hockey development programs out of state. Housed with teammates, the boys go to local high schools and play on sponsored teams intended to attract attention from college recruiters.
In 2006, the year Ms. Palin was elected governor, Steve Lowe snatched up Track Palin for a slot on the developmental AAA team he coaches in Kalamazoo, Mich. Mr. Lowe liked that Mr. Palin, a forward, was extremely focused and aggressive on the ice. If he could manage his temper a little and improve his shooting, it was clear that Mr. Palin could have secured a college scholarship and maybe a chance at the pros, he said.

We now know more of the truth, sending Track off didn't help at all. It was another Palin parental failure. Track never managed his temper.

Officer John F. Daily said Track was angry and intoxicated. Track thought they were now in Eagle River. 9/7/2014

Sorry Koch Brothers, But Money Can’t Buy You Real People’s Votes

...Money can buy you a lot of negative TV ads and many lies, some of them rather clever but most of them way too obvious to pass in the age of the internet. And it turns out that being supported by the Koch brothers is bad news for Republican Joni Ernst. The voters are not impressed. This also happened in the 2012 election, with dark money’s relentlessly negative and mostly inaccurate ads actually hurting Mitt Romney.

Thanks to Jane Mayer exposing the billionaires on a crusade against Obama, the Koch brothers have been outed as the nasty Oz behind the curtain who are trying to buy what they couldn’t get honestly. David Koch and is values got massively rejected by the people when he ran for the office of VP in 1980 as a Libertarian and ever since then, the Kochs been trying to puppeteer for profit.

Want to know why David Koch was so rejected? Here’s a few goodies from the Libertarian platform in 1980 compiled by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT):

I just don't get the money piece. People need to wake up and think and vote. Are we really that stupid that pouring millions of dollars at advertising influences people to vote for a Rethug? That is very sad. I am sending positive energy to Begich campaign and people of Alaska to do the right thing.
I want campaign finance reform and term limits for Xmas/Solstice/Hanakuh,Kwaanza. Oh, and hope the voting machines are not tampered with also, too.

I get a kick out of her little vignettes from every place at which she speaks. They are really funny considering the sheltered life she has lived. What would she do sans google???
Hockey is a hard sport. These men and women who play are incredible athletes. I know Track does not have the discipline and drive or family backing that would have been needed to play in COLLEGE let alone the leagues. Also, isn't Track too small to have been a contender??
Anyway, stay on the Evangelical circuit Sarah. Ya'll deserve one another.

I've gotten calls at my home from the 'other' side and relish telling them I'm voting for Senator Mark Begich.

Alaska doesn't need outsiders coming into our state to take control of it with their zillions of dollars! The carpetbagger does not deserve the position as he would not represent Alaskans! He'd continue in the mode of obstruction along w/the other Republicans in the U.S. Congress for the last two years of President Obama's term!

Sarah how come you didn't talk about your drunk ass wipes? Why not, you're not proud of their behavior?

I'm an Alaskan and think this ad outstanding! It's truthful and can be documented. The carpetbagger would not represent Alaskan women or Alaskans if he got a seat in the U.S. Congress.

Vote for the 'true' Alaskan, Senator Mark Begich. He has a proven track record as to the work he has done for Alaskans and was born and raised here.

Sarah sent Bristol to her aunt's house when she had (cough cough) Mono (wink wink) when she was in high school.

Isn't that what parents did with their unwed underage pregnant daughters back in the day?
