"Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll launch the campaign when I'm damn good and ready." |
Hillary Clinton, expecting no major challenge for the Democratic nomination, is strongly considering delaying the formal launch of her presidential campaign until July, three months later than originally planned, top Democrats tell POLITICO.
The delay from the original April target would give her more time to develop her message, policy and organization, without the chaos and spotlight of a public campaign.
A Democrat familiar with Clinton’s thinking said: “She doesn’t feel under any pressure, and they see no primary challenge on the horizon. If you have the luxury of time, you take it.”
Advisers said the biggest reason for the delay is simple: She feels no rush.
“She doesn’t want to feel pressured by the press to do something before she’s ready,” one adviser said. “She’s better off as a noncandidate. Why not wait?”
Okay I am of two minds on this.
On the one hand, I hate a tease.
On the other hand if she waits long enough the Republicans may destroy each other and she will gain the White House completely unopposed.
Of course she is clearly already running a campaign, it is just all behind the scenes and secretive which also makes me a little uncomfortable.
I guess personally I feel Hillary should stop fucking around and actually launch the campaign and hope for a Democratic challenger to help her sharpen her game before she bitchslaps Jeb Bush into retirement.
But hey, that's just me.
Thoughts?
Even if this is all bullshit you still have to take the opportunity to run her down.
ReplyDeleteI really don't see why waiting can be construed as "a tease". It's not as if she was doing a Palin, jumping up and down screeching "Money gimme more money" to anyone stupid enough to listen.
DeleteI wasn't particularly excited about Hillary from the beginning, though I would love to see a woman elected President. But this "strategy" if that's what you call it is making me less interested with each passing day. I almost don't care whether she runs or not...just make up your damn mind and move on.
ReplyDelete12:08 PM Just don't vote for whichever Republican they put up against her. I think her (as you put it!) 'strategy' is perfect. They - Republicans - have been doing everything they can to undermine her for over a year!
DeleteI hope she holds off announcing for as long as possible. Why go out earlier than necessary and have to counter every move the Republicans make and spend all that money? I'd do the same thing were I her! Don't forget she has many years of public service and can outsmart them - just as President Obama continues doing!
Republicans already know they are going to lose in 2016!
Well Sarah we really don't care
Delete1:02 PM Which of the two are you referring, as I'm 12:55 PM and NOT the idiot!
DeleteI hope she holds off until they have all knocked each other off the "Klown Kar" and when they have a "Serious" person. If I were her I wouldn't announce yet either. I don't see what the big darn "Dill" is. we are still trying to put the nail in the Zombie palin.
DeleteNope Hillary Rest up and announce when YOU are good and ready. No rush.
IMHO, I think she is doing it right. Why not wait and let the other side kill each other and spend good money, and in the meantime you (i.e. Hillary) can keep on collecting more money and preserve your capital - to be used more forcefully and effectively - later on?
DeleteIt's only January, Gryph, take a deep breath and exhale. What "I'd" like to know is the deal Jeb and Mitt made behind the scenes that got Mitt to withdraw....and Mitt had lunch with Chelsea Clinton yesterday? What's up with that? I think they're all crooks, every last one of 'em.
ReplyDeleteAnd David Axelrod is hosting Mittens in Chicago, what's up with that?
DeleteAxelrod has child with a serious health issue, along with his wife they created a Charity for it, in the beginning he said he would shave off his mustache if he gotten to certain goal, he kept the Charity going I believe this is why he's meeting with Romney
Delete"On the one hand, I hate a tease."
ReplyDeletePot calling the kettle black, Gryphen?
That's a good one, which Gryphen would probably admit!
DeleteI am going to trust Hillary to do this the best way she knows. I supported her primary candidacy in 2007-2008 and I'll support her in 2015-16 before she gets in and all the way after.
ReplyDeleteummm....please re-read your own post re: 'The Family.'
ReplyDeleteHe didn't have lunch with her. They were just at the same event.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the clarification!
DeleteWhat's the deal about donors to a primary campaign and donors to a regular campaign? Primary money can't be used in the general election. Perhaps she's trying to get all the donations to go to the general fund, which is smart if she has no primary opponents, or few.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure about that? I thought the funds just rolled over from the primary to the general. If not, what are they allowed to do with the funds left when the primary is done?
DeleteMy granddaughter is a couple of weeks older than hers. I wholeheartedly support delaying the campaign if she spends some precious time with that baby. Once the train starts down the track, she'll be running nonstop.
ReplyDeleteDo you actually think these people are just like you?
DeleteLMAO. You sound like a Palin fan.
Most definitely NOT a Palin fan. Why would you think that the Clinton's aren't like other people when it comes to doting on grand babies? There is no need for her to start running all over the country yet. She can play it whatever way she and her team see fit.
Delete12:12 PM:
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement here.
She's going to have primary challengers, that's a guarantee. She's also the candidate who was a shoo-in at this point in 2008. To put it bluntly, she's not a lock.
ReplyDeleteI only wish the Democrats had another Obama willing to run.
DeleteNo problem with this approach, let the focus be on the republican clown car and their racist, mysoginistic positions. As soon as she announces it will be Benghazi 24/7. She will be the adult in the room just like pres Obama.
ReplyDeleteThe right is uptalking another Bill sexcapade that she's waiting for the blow over (so to speak).
ReplyDeleteNaaa.
No one cares about that.
Right?
(Joking! As our first woman President refixes her makeup.)
To tell you the truth - whatever the Republicans put out there against Hillary and/or Bill will have no impact.
DeleteWe are already massively sick to death of the lies they've been putting out there for the past year!
Name me one male Republican, currently serving in Congress, that hasn't screwed someone's wife while married? There would be very few! And, most married Americans have had affairs, so the Republican charge down that path against Bill Clinton will not work!
Hey Uncle Gryph! Once I learned about the multiple party systems in other elections around the world, it forced me to look much differently at the US family dynasties (mostly baby boomers) that have ruined our politics over the past 50 years. President Obama shook that party system up which forced Hillary to show her true hand. I lost a ton of respect for her and Bill because of their selfish, entitled and sabotaging behaviors on the 2008 campaign trail.
ReplyDeleteHer decision to wait, in my opinion, is to employ the theory that "they can't argue if its only one person in the conversation." It would cost her valuable resources to counter all the stupid and childish lies the other side puts out. In a few days, it will die down and every one will "forget". Besides, she's already addressed every bad thing they've said about her. So why not save her money and address all the idiocy at one time. That's a smart, mature and fiscally responsible move. President Obama has proven that a strong, steady hand that doesn't jump every time a new "scandal" comes out is best when you're the only adult in the room.
As for having our best interests at heart, each and every person that has a voting privilege need to get off their rusty asses and vote for the persons that will represent your community, your views and your beliefs. A non-vote for your candidate is a vote for the one you don't want in office. So if you're not going to vote and make sure everyone else you know votes, then STFU and stop complaining.
And, yes....I'm still pissed about the midterms!
Super Fan. I completely agree with your assessment.
DeleteI am also hoping for some serious challenge to her as I honestly don't want to see a Clinton dynasty. (I can guarantee you that I certainly don't want to see the Bush dynasty continue.
Sheesh
I can hardly wait to have 'two' POTUSs in our White House in 2016! So much history will be made with Hillary Clinton also being the first woman POTUS.
DeleteShe is far more experienced than any of the Republican candidates.
I hope Elizabeth Warren will run with her - what a dynamic duo they'd be! They could serve two terms and then Elizabeth Warren could move on to being the next female POTUS and we'd have had Democrats in office doing nothing but good things for our country and keeping them out of 'on the ground' wars like the Republicans so badly want! (McCain and Lindsey especially!)
The midterms are the only thing that matters; the House, The Senate, your vote counts in those races. Your vote doesn't count in the Presidential election, it is decided by the Electoral College votes. Be proactive, locally, and in the midterms, vote, vote, vote, POTUS, it's out of our hands.
Delete4:48 PM
DeleteYou really don't know what you're talking about but thanks so much for pretending you do.
I hope she is not a lock. I will vote for her before I vote for a Republican but this shouldn't be a blue blood election. Jeb Bush versus Hillary will just show how stupid and manipulated the American voter is. Elizabeth Warren needs to step forward.
ReplyDeleteI'm not worried about when she announces, I'm worried that we are putting all our eggs in theta one basket.
ReplyDeleteSo much can happen with almost 2 years to go. If she doesn't or can't run for whatever reason, wtf do we Dems do then? I have no doubts she would be a very capable leader, I'd really like to have some other options.
I'd vote Obama again if I could, for his humanity and sanity.
Mildred
You and me, Mildred! I would, too!
DeleteThere are other options. Campaigns are organic. I trust Clinton to declare when the the time is right. I have faith in the process to get to the best Democrat.
DeleteAs the I Ching says, "Hasten slowly." :-)
I totally agree with her! Put it off as long as possible, Mrs. Clinton.
ReplyDeleteThe Republicans have been flinging all types of commentary about her for the past year and there is no sense in her declaring now - spending that money, etc. when she doesn't have to!
And, she will win! It's already proven that Republicans have no standouts to put up against her! (Oh, and thank you 'idiot' Sarah Palin for already raising $50,000 for Mrs. Clinton's campaign!)
I'm excited and eager to cast my vote for the first woman POTUS!
What if Hillary DOESN’T run?
Deletehttp://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2015/01/30/what-if-hillary-doesnt-run/
I personally think 'any one' that runs for POTUS is nuts. Especially after watching what the Republican party has put President Obama through so far!
DeleteThey'd be just as tough on Hillary Clinton because she IS a woman and boy they sure as hell don't support women's rights!
Be assured I'd vote for her should she run though!
First woman POTUS and having two President Clintons in the White House would be a kick in the butt! They are a dynamic team as husband and wife and have always been!
I think that Hillary doesn't want to announce the launch of her campaign so early and scare Sarah back to Wasilla. The plan is to let Sarah talk shit, announce her campaign and then whoop Sarah's bony ass.
ReplyDeleteSarah will NEVER announce a campaign, once she does that SarahPac will no longer be available to her.
DeleteIt's difficult to imagine that anyone would plan a strategy based on whether Sarah Palin is "back in Wasilla" or not. And it's impossible for me to think that Hillary hasn't figured out that Palin will never run again for anything and is only scamming the gullible.
DeleteI don't think Hillary gives the tiniest shit about some drugged up, drunken, washed up bitter loser from some bitty little town in the middle of nowhere, clinging to her guns and facebook and whining non-stop about the mean ol' media pickin' on her.
DeletePlus, Sarah now knows she would never win a primary. And, she doesn't have the money or staffing available to even suggest she come out the door of her house on the dead lake in small town Wasilla, Alaska!
DeleteI seriously doubt Hillary Clinton is even paying attention to the idiot, Sarah Palin. She's probably nothing more to her than a fly on a wall which would be easily flicked off!
DeletePayMe is not even a has-been in this equation.
DeleteWhat makes ME nervous is the possibility of Hillary waiting - and then deciding against running. WHAT will the Dems do then??? Is there ANY viable candidate out there??? Elizabeth Warren has stated in no uncertain terms that she will NOT run. I don't think that Bernie Sanders will run, either.
The Dems have NO ONE that is/might be viable to run for POTUS.
If Hillary does not run, then WE ARE F*CKED!!!
Palin will never run. Even she has finally got the message that she's a pathetic joke and would be annihilated the moment she opened her mouth. Iowa was the final straw, the rampant vulgarity and coarseness turned off a lot of her rusted on followers.
Delete12:49 PM:
ReplyDeleteAMEN to that!!
Honestly, I wish I could vote President Obama for a 3rd.
ReplyDeleteMe too! Know he'd win AGAIN.
DeleteBut, I think he'll be happy to move on with his life. He's so damned thin and grey now.
President Obama has had more pressure put upon him by Republicans than any other in our history. And, I hope he knocks the Hell out of them in his final two years!
He's outfoxed them so many times already and is a delight to watch!
Get that veto pen out, President Obama, and start with the Keystone Bill which will be on your desk soon.
Screw McConnell, McCain, Boehner and the rest of the heads of Congress. They are the scum of the earth! (To take part of McCain's call out!)
I'd vote for Obama a third time too!
Deletec
Me too. I would vote for him in a heartbeat...
DeleteI wish everyone would wait until Labor Day. Two damn years is too damn long for a Presidential election.
ReplyDeleteI also wish all of you Alaskans would come to Maine and take your damn snow back. We like snow, but this is too damn much.
Thank you, Caroll, I'm as sick of it as I am deflategate. If I were closer, I'd shovel for you, miss the snow of my youth!
Delete"too damn long"
DeleteYes! Too damn long and too damn expensive, only benefiting political consultants and the media.
I'd like to see something like 4-month primaries and 3-month general campaigns consisting of debates that allow for significant back-and-forth discussion of policy issues, candidate speeches/rallies, grassroots campaigning, and written policy statements. No tv/radio/internet/billboard commercials or advertising.
Yeah on the snow issue, but in Alaska, they call this "flurries". I almost fell over in shock, two kids with shovels and a day off offered to shovel my sidewalk, driveway and fix the mailbox pole. They refused money and said they were doing it for MLK day, so I gave them each gift certificates to Starbucks and told them "I'm doing THIS for MLK Day" and to thank you for thinking of me.
DeleteCaroll Thompson has the right response to Gryphen's question. If only the rules could be changed to what she suggests but my goodness, the whole political economy would collapse and then where would we be? Can anyone imagine what one billion dollars could buy, which is what the Koch twin dicks are proposing to spend to buy the white house?
DeleteYes, summers of non election years should be election free!
DeleteAnd school shouldn't start until after Labor Day either!
c
Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't need to announce any more than Jeb Bush does.
It's all about the best use of dollars. And there hasn't been a viable republican candidate who has announced so I don't quite understand your hurry. Maybe you can explain that to me. Everyone knows that one of two things will happen, either Hillary announces with no surprise and the media will be on "the running mate" trail, or Warren will announce with Hillary at her side shaking up everything.
Relax for a bit. Hillary does not need name recognition or anything else, just remember the GOP plays checkers and we play chess.
Many PAC's can be utilized now that will not be able to be used after she announces.
Sit down
Calm down
Have a drink of your choice
The game is just beginning
This is what is so terribly wrong with our freaking elections. You're upset that Hillary doesn't announce a year and a half before the elections! Some countries I respect limit campaign "season" to "weeks." I agree that we needed enough time for "the crazy" to peek through the surface shine slapped on a candidate like Sarah Palin for VP - so that the general public has time to see what we in Alaska already knew......but, geez, getting ticked off and impatient with an 18 month lead? Our country is nuts sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThe UK & Canada have about 6 weeks of campaigning allowed. Damn sane. I am sick of the 2016 election already... well, almost. Watching the GOP clown car is fun, but I suspect Democrats will think their win a foregone conclusion and not vote.
DeleteBrancy still doing mommie dearest's work for her.
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait until SHE runs for office.
Man, this tribe is insufferable. LOL and RME
http://www.patheos.com/blogs/bristolpalin/2015/01/contact-these-virginia-legislators-now-to-support-conventionofstates-and-save-america/#ixzz3QRFXjawJ
Yeah, like Bristol read about the convention of states. Nancy, you're "playing" the role of a spoiled thwunk in her twenties, gotta dumb down your posts to reflect that. Perhaps write "Nancy read this to me and this is what I think. It's a good idea, contact them now, um 'kay?"
DeleteBTW I even have no problem with Hillary ( and I voted for Barack over her in the Nat'l caucus in 2008). But announcing early only helps the GOP, understand the game and you will understand the moves.
ReplyDeleteLet the GOP clown car see who her ( and others opponent is first.
BTW I love Warren, but keep an eye on Mayor Castro out on Texas.
BTW Mayor Castro governs a city with 1.4 million, much more of a job thatn a governor running a state with 600,00. Fuck ya, we democrats have things tied up for 2016.
I have a political crush on Julian Castro. And on his brother Joaquin. Just two of the fabulous public servants who Democrats.
DeleteAmerica's campaigns for POTUS are ridiculous! Way too long and too costly. So much of the money spent could go to better causes - such as the poor!
DeleteIt would be a kick if Hillary didn't announce until six months out before elections. Don't know what the election rules are though.
There is also Marin O' Malley who served as Governor of Maryland from 2007 to 2015, his wife Katie is the district court judge of Baltimore City. I saw his name mentioned in an article on possible candidates so i plan on doing some research on him but he has stated that he is looking at a possible run, at this point options should be looked at until Mrs. Clinton officially announces and to keep an open mind on some competition .
DeleteAs an Irishman from Maryland, maybe I'm a bit biased, but O'Malley is my guy, I like his progressive stance on issues (read: not republican light like Hillary).
DeleteHe is too unknown...would never win against Hillary Clinton in the primary!
DeleteDALLAS, Texas — Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—a former U.S. Senator from New York, the former First Lady of the United States, and the Democrats’ likely frontrunner and nominee in 2016—is “yesterday’s news.”
ReplyDeleteI think Hillary Clinton is, in some ways, a blast from the past, in the sense that I really think she represents policies that are outmoded and not really forward thinking.”
orlin sellers
Thanks, orlin,
DeleteI was hoping someone would let us know what Randy Paul thought about the idea of having a President Hillary Clinton. Now we can make an informed decision.
Good grief!
I'm anxious to see who Mrs. Clinton will select to run with her. Elizabeth Warren would be an excellent choice, but she's great in Congress right now and would be an asset to Mrs. Clinton when she is elected POTUS.
ReplyDeleteI'd like Joe Biden in the position truthfully! He's already proven he is perfect for the job!
Is this a joke or are you serial?
DeleteSerial, baby!
Delete10:08 is serial a joke or are you cereal?
DeleteSince she's already been through a Presidential primary, I don't think there's much of a need for her to "sharpen her game". Her history, experience and every other tiny tidbit of information about her has already been exposed, so there's not much that's going to be a surprise to anyone.
ReplyDeleteI assume that this delay means that she definitely IS going to run. I can't imagine that she would postpone any kind of announcement three more months only to say, "Oh, by the way, I decided not to run after all!"
"Of course she is clearly already running a campaign, it is just all behind the scenes and secretive which also makes me a little uncomfortable."
ReplyDelete--------------------------------
I don't think she is "being secretive" and doing everything "behind the scenes."
She is simply using good strategy. Why not bide her time, not waste campaign funds on expensive showboating and let the American voters get a real good look, with no distractions, at the gibbering, drooling, baying at the moon constitution-destroying republican loons falling all over themselves to destroy everything that President Obama spent eight careful years building and re-building?
I agree with the idea of a primary competition being very useful. However, she has done that before and if the democrats pull together (a big if) and IF she is willing to surround herself with people who know what they are doing AND let them do their job, she will be able to present herself as a very credible candidate in comparison to the republicans, quite a few of whom will be gnawing on each other's carcasses by then.
I think she was her own worst enemy in 2008.
If she can make $500K giving speeches to Wall Street before she is a candidate, why give up this money?
ReplyDeleteBiden/Obama (VP) 2016 - perfectly legal and removes the Biden age issue!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that idea!
DeleteMildred
OMG, that would be awesome. The Right Wing would LOSE THEIR MINDS if that happened. But it won't. PBO is gonna be ready to try something new and he deserves a break.
Delete"O' can cut a deal to sleep-in on Wednesdays!
DeleteBrilliant idea! I would vote early and often for that!
DeleteThat is the best idea yet! Is it really legal to do? Why hasn't anyone thought of it before this? Makes me circumspect!
DeleteBrilliant Idea! OR have FLOTUS run. Problem Solved.
DeleteI could be wrong, but first thought is that it would not be legal actually. If I remember my Government classes correctly, Obama cannot be elected to a position that could turn into to serving as president again.
DeleteI disagree with you, 8:50pm. PBO cannot be ELECTED again, but he can become VP. He would potentially be only a temporary President if something would happen to Biden (or whoever would be elected President) - it would only be till the end of the 'regular' President's term, and then another President would be elected.
DeleteI wouldn't mind seeing a primary in which some younger Democrats get a chance to let the nation get to know them and get some experience with a national campaign. There are several possible outcomes, all good.
ReplyDeleteAnother Barack comes along, takes it all, and we have another eight years to let the republicans continue shooting themselves in the foot with every possible demographic.
Hillary wins, but one of her primary opponents demonstrates clearly that they would be a great vp, and we get someone in office in the best possible position to run for president a few years later.
Hillary wins, chooses a vp from elsewhere, but the Democrats demonstrate 1) a very good developing bench, and 2) actual candidates, not a clown car full of greedy amoral jackasses abusing our electoral system to score book deals and fox hosting gigs, with no real intention or expectation of ever serving the American people.
I like Elizabeth Warren, but she insists she has no intention of running and I respect that. I think she is well-positioned in the Senate to help this country a great deal. I would like to see some younger people come up, because Warren, like Clinton, will be in her mid-70s in 2024. (I don't know why people keep saying she would be better than Clinton because she is "younger." Warren is 65 to Clinton's 67.)
...because she seems younger and more energetic and, well, healthier.
ReplyDeleteEasy situation: Hillary and Elizabeth run together. They serve two terms and then Elizabeth picks a running mate and gets elected again and we have Democrats in power another couple of terms. Sounds more than good to me keeping the slime-bucket Republicans out of the White House for a good time to come.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this one, Gryphen. Let's face it, she's made her decision already and this delay could backfire. Can you imagine Liz Warren deciding to run? Or Sarah Palin changing parties and deciding to run? (I tossed that last one in for comic relief, she's busy strengthening her back wink wink).
ReplyDeleteKind of OT, but Bill Clinton was on Rachel Ray and she asked him what he'd be called if she won, he thought about it a few seconds and said "I guess "First Man" would dictate that they just call me Adam".
They've still got that spark of humor, a lesser person would probably say "First Dude", after thinking it over for nine months.
I don't personally care what happens and who runs for POTUS. The Electoral College makes the decision regarding who will be our POTUS, not us, the voters so I just like to sit back and watch the show and find out who the Electoral College chooses on the Second Tuesday in November. No reason for the individual voter to be part of that race at all. I am involved locally, and in Senate and House races I vote, but POTUS, why bother when someone else makes the decision?
ReplyDeleteIt's all good theatre though.
You really don't know what you're talking about but thanks so much for pretending you do.
DeleteUntil the electoral college system is changed it's the only way to elect the president. If you don't think your vote makes a difference then do us all a favor and stay home and never vote. Try reading the constitution about the electoral college and then get off your ass and propose a constitutional amendment that will change it.
ALWAYS cast your vote! It, at least, makes you completely illegible to bitch about the outcome of the race IF not the way you wanted/voted for it to go!
DeleteWhat's especially irritating about assholes like Anonymous 4:33 PM is the way they try to convince people that their vote doesn't count because of the way the electoral college works, fully not understanding enough of the process themselves to explain it or to propose how it should be done.
DeleteDon't forget the part where he gets the dates wrong, probably on purpose. The electoral college casts their votes in mid-December long after the public has cast their votes for electors in early November.
It's another way for people to try to suppress votes and assholes like that should be exiled to the south pole where they can make up their own rules.
As far as I know, the electoral college is supposed to vote the way the majority of voters in their state voted. So: GO OUT AND VOTE FOR PRESIDENT IN 2016!!! If you don't, and many others think like you do, the we will have a HUGE disaster on our hands as a country!
DeleteI laughed so hard at the the Biden/Obama possibility because I never thought of it. It would make the right wing go Ape shit wouldn't it.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Obama/Biden 2016. As in...
DeleteMichelle/Jill!
I absolutely love the idea of Biden/Obama (both men) - it would be a kick in the ass to watch the reaction of the Republicans. They'd shit green nickels (perhaps 'red') all over the place!
DeleteThe tough primary serves to get all the ugly stuff out in the open and dealt with. Better to get the dirty laundry done during the primary than a month before the election.
ReplyDeleteHere's another thought. What if Romney is employing the same wait until the last minute strategy?
ReplyDeleteAn on another note, I'd definitely vote for a Biden/Obama or Clinton/Obama ticket.
ReplyDeleteSilly liberals That's just to forgo a conclusion.
ReplyDeleteHuh? I'm not sure that's even a sentence. Is this Sarah?
DeleteI think the longer she waits the better. It gives the repugs less time to engage in a public onslaught. Our campaigns are too long anyway. One month is plenty of time to get their messages out and then we vote. I get sick of the year long feces throwing of both parties.
ReplyDelete
