So are we the last, or just the next to last?

I guess that's what "American Exceptionalism" means.

I've never understood why Americans claim to live in the number one country in the world and yet we see it lag behind other nations in so many ways.

I've heard that American credit cards are—at last—going to have chips.

      ...GOING to have chips... GOING!
      Amazing, ain't we?
In the Nineties, when public telephone booths were ubiquitous in Germany, even the prepaid phone cards were chipped. Imagine that!
Here we are twenty years later and still are talking about how we are "going" to have our Credit Cards chipped.
We are just so exceptional (backwards that is)!

What's so exceptional about bullying other countries with our overinflated military? The only people who believe that there is anything exceptional about America are those with the flag and our military might shoved firmly up their asses.

If the Supreme Court rules in favor of their conservative puppet masters, we won't even be at all.

And with Obamacare effectively repealed, the GOP can announce their exciting new initiative to expeditiously but carefully develop a replacement based on common sense conservative rill American values.

And this time they promise to get it right no matter how long it takes. Not rushed thru like Barack HUSSEIN Obama's plan.

If it takes the next hundred years - or the next FIVE hundred - to establish the perfect conservative health care plan our exceptional nation will be even MORE exceptional than ever!!!

Oh, and by the way: fuck you, conservatives.

    1. I think the only way this country will get Universal Healthcare is for the Republicans to dismantle Obamacare. Then then uproar of the people will force Congress to replace it with Universal Healthcare.

Will be much easier when all of the morons fail to re-elect the Republicans that took their healthcare away from them.

the morons already elected the morons in the first place (how do we keep them all straight?). And there will be little uproar. After Obamacare dies it'll just go back to the way it to used to be: no insurance if you have a pre-existing condition, faster rises in the price of health care and health insurance for those who can get it, lifetime benefit caps.

People will die and people will go bankrupt, just the way Jeebus intended. Thank god we'll have unlimited open carry of firearms to keep us entertained as we take our rightful place on the roster of "Countries What Was Once Mighty And Great" Here we come, Roman Empire, France, Britain, Holland, Atlantis!

Exceptionalism means "exceptional" as long as you're rich.

I think your question is premature, since we're not there yet. In 25 states the poorest people still have no access.

Then there's the people who aren't poor enough to qualify for help but are now forced to pay several hundred dollars a month for crappy insurance with a $6,000 deductible. They're paying so much per month for insurance they can't afford to go to a doctor when they're sick.

As far as I'm concerned all Obamacare did was give billions more to insurance companies. It solves nothing. It does nothing to address the root problem: health care is too expensive.

You can earn a decent living-wage and still qualify for the ACA subsidies. If you make enough that you do not qualify for the subsidy then you make enough to pay a few hundred dollars per month on your insurance.

The cut off to qualify for a subsidy for an individual is $46,680 and for a family of four the ceiling is $95,400. This illustrates that plenty of lower middle class and even solid middle class families and individuals are fully able to benefit from the subsidy.

Obamacare isn't perfect but it's a vast improvement over what we had before. Keep in mind that routine office visit co-pays are very reasonable now and can treat minor issues before they become major issues.

There are no easy answers to the high cost of health care. And the 'attractive' solutions may have unforeseen consequences we didn't expect, as Dan Quayle liked to say. Meanwhile Obamacare goes a long way towards relieving the most egregious flaws of the previous system.

I'm predicting that the Clarence "Silent Chuck" Thomas, Samuel "Slammin' Sammy" Alito, Antonin "Darth Tony" Scalia, Kennedy and Roberts hand their conservatives overlords the decision they bought and paid for, so we'll probably get to see just how much better things become after O-care is eviscerated.

      (Hint: it won't be pretty)

It means my 12-year-old daughter, who has a chronic lifelong illness, won't be discriminated against because of her pre-existing condition. It means if my husband or I wants to change jobs or start our own business, we don't have to worry about going uninsured or paying unbelievably ridiculous rates.

Of course it makes a difference.
