The Los Angeles Superior Court issued a temporary restraining order Wednesday banning an anti-abortion group from releasing any additional footage of officials from a California company that provides fetal tissue to researchers. The group, the Center for Medical Progress, is the same organization that previously released sting videos of a Planned Parenthood leader discussing the sale of aborted fetuses for medical research. The order bars the anti-abortion group from releasing video of three leaders at StemExpress shot at a restaurant in May until a court hearing Aug. 19. The recent release of sting videos has reignited the abortion debate, prompting Republican lawmakers to take up a measure to defund Planned Parenthood.
Of course this decision has angered the anti-choice crowd who are claiming that the courts are simply protecting Planned Parenthood and of course hate babies.
Of course this only protects this company, StemExpress, from being attacked, the group undoubtedly still has video concerning other companies who have not been able to get a court order to delay their release. So obviously this whole thing is far from over.
Here just take a look at how Rush Limbaugh is spinning this:

What do you think most people think Planned Parenthood is? Do you think most people realize that it's a series of abortion clinics?" I would submit to you that most people look at Planned Parenthood and they see Planned Parenthood.
I would venture to say that a lot of people look at it and think that it is a place you go where you want to talk to experts about how to plan your family, and they will advise you how many kids to have, what it's going to cost you. That's what I think most people think Planned Parenthood is. It says "Planned Parenthood" over the door, doesn't it? It doesn't say, "We do abortions here and harvest the organs for sale!" It says "Planned Parenthood."
"A series of abortion clinics." That is how this is being explained to those on the Right.
Like I said, this is far from over.
Ironic - and disheartening - that he's telling his audience of low-information voters so stupid they get their information from Rush LImbaugh that the rest of the American people are "low-information" voters.

DeleteIn the meantime, it is coming out that in Indiana an investigation into their 3 Planned Parenthood clinics -- ordered by their ultra RW Governor Mike Pence -- has concluded that they did nothing wrong, broke now laws, etc. Wouldn't it be good if more of these investigations were done? And, even better if covered by major media so the Fox News viewers would become aware. AOL has it online this morning which is good.

ReplyDeleteI don't like abortion. I don't think anybody LIKES abortion. I would imagine it's the most difficult decision a woman can make. I don't know if I could do it. Of course, it's very easy for me to say this being a guy. I do know this: I would NEVER tell a woman what she can and can't do with her body.

$arah and her fellow inbreds make it sound like these fetuses are being sold as food for hungry wolves. They're being used for medical research aren't they? If it can lead to a medical breakthrough, it would bring some good to a woman's most difficult decision.
I don't mean to sound callous, but I don't understand the big deal.
I believe $arah and other republicans are just sinking their teeth in this because they ultimately want to take away a woman's right to choose.
Actually, I doubt $arah even actually has any motive to protect life. And she certainly doesn't give a damn about black babies. She is just using this as a desperate attempt to somehow appear that she's still relevant. She only cares about herself. And that's all she ever will care about.
You don't know if you could do it? Could you carry your rapist's child for nine months and give birth to their baby? Could you continue to carry a fetus that had abnormalities incompatible with life, give birth and watch it die in fifteen minutes? Could you carry on a pregnancy knowing that you already had a couple of kids at home, your spouse who was the family supporter, had just lost their job and you were going under in debt?

You raise some valid points and I think anyone faced with those questions will think long and hard and decide NOT to abort, regardless. And there will be those who WILL abort.
But I would say that until actually faced with a situation and being required to make a decision, you can't really know how you will react. And abortion isn't the only decision that are soul searching time, either.
Heck, there have been cases when a trained soldier faced with the kill situation couldn't pull the trigger!
They are not being sold for research. They are being donated for research. But that doesn't mean the process is free. There is some processing and some transportation involved to make sure this tissue donation meets the stringent requirements of the research process they will become a part of. That costs money. And it is those costs that are being reimbursed.

Along the same topic, Doctors at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia just completed the first double hand transplant on a child who lost his hands and legs to an infection they couldn't stop. They mentioned the ascb in passing, which led me to find the site in the first place. Had they developed a new antibiotic using stem cell research, he may have been spared losing his limbs in the first place.
