Sarah Palin uses a quote from Mother Theresa to attack Planned Parenthood. Well somebody should have done a little more research.

Courtesy of Palin's very last social media outlet.
Now on the face of it this might seem like a direct hit on Palin's part. Here she is quoting a once beloved Catholic icon to attack an organization that it is all the rage among conservatives to attack.

The problem lies in the "once beloved" part.

You see the great Christopher Hitchens wrote a carefully researched, and scathing book about Mother Theresa's supposed charitable nature and what he found seriously damaged her reputation around the world.

Here is just a little of what he found:

MT was not a friend of the poor. She was a friend of poverty. She said that suffering was a gift from God. She spent her life opposing the only known cure for poverty, which is the empowerment of women and the emancipation of them from a livestock version of compulsory reproduction. And she was a friend to the worst of the rich, taking misappropriated money from the atrocious Duvalier family in Haiti (whose rule she praised in return) and from Charles Keating of the Lincoln Savings and Loan. Where did that money, and all the other donations, go? The primitive hospice in Calcutta was as run down when she died as it always had been—she preferred California clinics when she got sick herself—and her order always refused to publish any audit. But we have her own claim that she opened 500 convents in more than a hundred countries, all bearing the name of her own order. Excuse me, but this is modesty and humility?

Others who researched the claims made by Hitchens found them factual and right on target:

Canadian academics trawled through 96 per cent of all originally researched literature on the Catholic icon and concluded that her reputation as one of the holiest women of the twentieth century was the product of hype.

Researchers allege missing funds for humanitarian work and homes for the poor that did not offer the medical care they required, leaving many to die.

Serge LarivĂ©e, a researcher from the University of Montreal, said: "Given the parsimonious management of Mother Theresa's works, one may ask where the millions of dollars for the poorest of the poor have gone?”

If you think about it the choosing of Mother Theresa's quote is a no-brainer for Palin as they are essentially cut from the same cloth.

Both are grifters who accept donations that they ultimately spend mostly on themselves.

Both claim to be working for the greater good, while seeking out and basking in whatever limelight will shine their way.

And both hide behind religion to keep their critics at bay.

Interestingly enough, by way of comparison, Planned Parenthood attained the highest score possible for accountability and transparency.  (And if you don't believe that charity rating service, here is another.)

Mother Teresa thought people should suffer in this life. While she sought to comfort them during their suffering she didn't lift a darned finger to ease their suffering.

Excuse me, do some research. She denied people who were on her care die in pain because she believed pain cleanses the soul. No pain relievers of any kind, cold water for bathing, and hard uncomfortable cots.

She once said, “There is something beautiful in seeing the poor accept their lot, to suffer it like Christ's Passion. The world gains much from their suffering,” in response to criticism pushed on by Hitchens. With money bountiful from her charity efforts, Mother Teresa was equipped with resources to give the ill that came from across the world for healing. Instead, she allowed their health to decline, without medicine to hinder pain, proper food, and cleanliness. Yet hypocrisy dictated that when Mother Teresa needed medical care, she received it in a hospital.

    8. Mother Teresa believed that there is spiritual value in suffering. Once, when tending to a patient dying of cancer, she said ‘You are suffering like Christ on the cross. So Jesus must be kissing you.’ (Christoper Hitchens – The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice, p. 41). For this reason she would not prescribe pain killers in her clinics, choosing instead to allow her patients to experience the suffering that she believed would bring them closer to Christ.”

Dog on a bone, she is. She's found something she can sink her grifty little teeth into, along with her idiot spawn, and she's milking it for all it's worth.

President Obama will not sign any bill or make any law that will defund PP, so she can spin her wheels, cry her battle cry, whine her victimization, and it still won't happen.

She is so desperate for attention and money, it's nakedly obvious to everyone and they are laughing at her flailing about as if she means something to the world. She doesn't. She's a worthless piece of flesh, a sort of parasite that feeds off of other living things. The kind that lives in the dank, dark and putrid places.

Reality Is Winning: New Poll Finds Americans Increasingly Aren’t Buying Right-Wing Lies

Fox News makes a big show of being the “most trusted” source of news, but that claim, like much of what we find on the conservative network, is increasingly becoming mere wishful thinking. Instead, Americans are waking up to the fact that Fox, along with its counterparts on the web and radio, are functioning as little more than a right-wing propaganda machine. People, particularly young people, aren’t buying it.

In a comprehensive poll conducted by Pew Research that covered dozens of major and minor political news sources, researchers found that Fox “most trusted” News was actually the most distrusted source of news for Millennials. A whopping 43 percent of those surveyed said you can’t trust what that network tells you about politics and government. But other right-wing media outlets fared even worse in their overall “trust vs. distrust” ratio. According to the same poll, The Sean Hannity Show, Breitbart, The Glenn Beck Program, and The Rush Limbaugh Show, all rounded out the bottom of the list – none of which managed to get more than 3 percent of people to report that they found what the sources said reliable.

Bush Appointed Federal Court Judges Plead For SCOTUS To Overturn Roe v Wade

...While the court upheld their vow to protect and defend the Constitution, they were outspoken in their opinion, lamenting that they had no choice in the matter. The three conservative judges on the panel, all Bush appointees, included in their ruling a plea for the Supreme Court to overturn the famous 1973 decision, using arguments one might find at an extremist right to life rally.

Deposition submitted by Aroup Chatterjee before the committee for beatification/canonization of Mother Teresa February 1998.

    http://www.deeshaa.org/deposition-mother-of-all-myths/

    Mother Teresa was a hard-line pro-lifer

Mother Teresa did not believe in supporting those deciding whether or not they had to terminate their pregnancies – she wanted only to condemn them whatever their circumstances. When she accepted her Nobel Prize for Peace she said ‘Abortion is the worst evil and the greatest enemy of peace…If a mother can kill her own child, what will prevent us from killing ourselves or one another? Nothing.’

Her stance was completely hardline with no exceptions even in the most mitigating of circumstances. In 1971 the Indo-Pakistan War led to many atrocities including the rape of over 450,000 Hindu women by Pakistani soldiers. Rather than supporting them in coming to terms with the abuse they had suffered or condemning the atrocities perpetrated against them she chose to speak only on the question of abortion. For Mother Teresa felt that there should be no choice of whether or not to keep the babies of such a crime she called, very publicly for the victims to keep the babies. She held fast to this belief her entire life; in 1993 she condemned a 14 year old rape victim in Ireland for seeking an abortion. Indeed she had no problems travelling around the world specifically to prevent individual cases of abortion and to help anti-abortion campaigns to influence the government policy on abortion in many countries around the world.

While no one could question her personal feelings on the sanctity of life she was not the person suffering in these circumstances, she was not the person facing the choice and, in the case of the Hindu women was speaking from a religious view point that was not applicable to them. Her views were not, however, immutable. When her close friend Indira Ghandi imposed a state of emergency in India, suspending the constitution and instituting a reign of terror against her detractors Mother Teresa publicly supported her. This support did not waiver even when Indira Ghandi’s regime started a campaign for the forced sterilization of the poor.

Mother Teresa Not a Saint: New Study Suggests She Was a Fraud

...A television documentary released nineteen years earlier, in 1994, brought to light similar claims by journalist and writer Christopher Hitchens. The documentary was titled Hell’s Angel, as Hitchens' following book release in 1995 was shrewdly named The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice. He is said to be one of the many resources utilized in the study. This brings forth the conundrum — if Mother Teresa wasn’t as good as she seemed while she was still alive, then why is she a saint in the public’s eye? LarivĂ©e and his fellow collaborators practically answer this question in the form of another, “What could be better than beatification followed by canonization of this model to revitalize the Church and inspire the faithful especially at a time when churches are empty and the Roman authority is in decline?”

Beatification is the third step towards canonization — in short, making Mother Teresa an official saint of the Catholic Church. The late Pope John Paul II beautified her in 2003. Two miracles must be attributed to her outside of the one that elevated her to beatification must occur in order for her to be recognized as a saint. A miracle called by the Vatican sped up Mother Teresa’s beatification, which is usually a five-year wait. A woman with abdominal pain gave credit to a blessed trinket for aiding in her recovery when doctors countered modern medicine did the trick. In London of 1968, Mother Teresa found camaraderie in the capable hands of Malcolm Muggeridge, a journalist who held the same Roman Catholic and conservative ideas as her. Let it be noted that Mother Teresa was anti-abortion, divorce, and contraception. It was in his name gave the booming start to Mother Teresa’s career in the limelight. His influence is so profound that it has been noted that without Muggeridge, there would be no Mother Teresa.

After analyzing over 200 documents about Mother Teresa, the researchers of the study came across jarring contrasts to her reputation, one including her policy on taking care of the poor and ill.

McConchie, of the AUL, told the Guardian the group had drafted a model “Dignified Final Disposition Act” and was tweaking it in response to the clandestine videos. “We’re working with legislators. There’s a lot of interest.”

The proposed law would mandate that fetal remains be cremated or buried. If cremated, they would have to be cremated separately from medical waste and a county medical examiner would have to authorise the cremation.

The act would also require fetal death certificates for “each fetal death after delivery, miscarriage or abortion”. A stillborn child would need a state-issued “certificate of birth resulting in stillbirth”.

When this nonsense arises I wonder where the AMA is? Where are the national organizations of OBGYN's, nurses, etc.? Their silence in the face of this misogynist insanity that keeps resurfacing is simply deafening. It is possible that some of these legislators are truly ignorant of what happens when a woman "miscarries" (officially medically called a "spontaneous abortion") but the members of the country's medical organizations know and they should step up to the plate and tell these Koch-fed politicians what the reality is and they should take to the airwaves and to Fox News and to network news and educate everyone.

This is dangerous stuff that the Kochs, ALEC and the GOP are messing with. Don't these men realize that many, if not most of their mothers, wives and daughters have experienced the physical and psychological pain and discomfort of a miscarriage at least once in their lives?

Leave it to Sarah on her mission from God to "Defund Planned Parenthood", to hitch her wagon to Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa's schtick about tending to those near death, allowing suffering as a vehicle to console the suffering into accepting their fate. What "mother" would allow their child to endure the pain of cancer, etc, etc and watch as their child wasted away in unspeakable pain while there are medicines to relieve or at least manage the severity of pain? I'm just speaking as a mother and human being, and can't wrap my brain around it.

Dear Sarah , Bristol i s not a hero for having a second child out of wedlock. In fact she is dumb, dumb as a post. Good for you that you can provide for this second child of hers most average families cannot. Who is this childs daddy?

Levi has to pay child support so this baby's daddy should have to! What? Bristol can't name the Daddy? Joey Junker is not stepping up to the plate,. In fact no one is, they are all shivering in their boots hoping to get a pass, meanwhile Barstool is waiting to sell exclusive photos of her bundle of joy!

"My life as a single Mom again". How hard it is to be "slow' At least i did not have an abortion! Mama say's she will pay for it so i can just play with my new baby all day and sell the photos of my new no name baby to People Mag. or whoever pays the most! Awesome! I will do my fish lip pose and say i have to struggle so much as i live in my really awesome house and me and Marina hang out.Haters gonna hate but we we be bad ass bitches so we don't need your input ok? Sarah is picking on Planned Parenthood and abortion because it's easy. It's one of Nancy French's favorite whipping boys. It appeals to her religious right people. Thank goodness that Bristol is the living proof of someone who is unprepared and too immature to have children having what is this her fourth pregnancy by now? They proudly point to Bristol's choice to have her baby (was that Tripp or Trig or both?) but after she had the child, she showed us that she was a terrible mother.

The whole idea of Planned Parenthood was information to allow people to plan their families by using contraception until they were able to have children. Let's see who had children before they were married-- Sally Heath and Sarah Palin. Bristol has had children and never got married. The Palins hate Planned Parenthood so much because they are the ones who should have been using it.

Unfortunately, many intelligent, well-read (even non-religious) people I know still aren't aware of the whole Mother Theresa fraud, and even get offended when bringing it up. Her whole fame was predicated on a lie (something about in 1969 her creating light in a dark alley), which was largely debunked during her lifetime. Her greatest achievement was not feeding and housing the poor, but keeping birth control away from the impoverished, leading to more over populated orphanages and just overall more poverty. The woman had an obsession with the macabre, not a love of humanity.

  32. One of the many accounts of the true nature of Mother Teresa that Christopher Hitchens wrote about concerned criminal Charles Keating. Keating defrauded people out of their life savings with his Savings and Loan. I live in Cincinnati and remember seeing elderly people lined up for blocks trying to get their money out. Mother Teresa defended this criminal because he donated to her.

"One of the prosecutors wrote back to Mother Teresa explaining (just in case she did not know) that among those whom Keating defrauded may also be counted some of "the least of these" whom Mother claims to serve, including "a poor carpenter who did not speak English and had his life savings stolen by Mr. Keating's fraud" (p. 69). He continued: "No church, no charity, no organization should allow itself to be used as salve for the conscience of the criminal." He urged Mother Teresa to do the right thing: "Ask yourself what Jesus would do if he were given the fruits of a crime; what Jesus would do if he were in possession of money that had been stolen; what Jesus would do if he were being exploited by a thief to ease his conscience? I submit that Jesus would promptly and unhesitatingly return the stolen property to its rightful owners. You should do the same. You have been given money by Mr. Keating that he has been convicted of stealing by fraud. Do not permit him the `indulgence' he desires. Do not keep the money. Return it to those who worked for it and earned it! If you contact me I will put you in direct contact with the rightful owners of the property now in your possession."

    Mother Teresa never replied.

  34. I prefer first-hand insight over the views of journalists who never devoted any time to caring for dying, impoverished people in slums.

Dr. Colette Livermore spent 11 years as a sister with Mother Theresa's Missionaries of Charity before leaving to go to medical school. She saw flaws in the order's rigid adherence to rules and avoidance of modern conveniences, but she also lived every day witnessing the enormous amount of good done for the poor.

"Hope Endures" is a book she wrote about her years there. Anyone who would like a more realistic, balanced, and nuanced view of Mother Theresa and her work should read it.

Or you could just form opinions based on far-removed "research" done by outsiders. Years later, Dr. Livermore cared enough to leave Australia and pay her respects at Mother Theresa's funeral, whom she described as a strong and courageous woman. I put more stock in Livermore's opinion than that of well-fed finger-pointing journalists like Hitchens.
