Former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing has bonded out of jail.
He posted 10 percent of his $1 million bond, according to the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts website.
Maj. Charmaine McGuffey, of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, said Tensing left the jail at about 6:45 p.m. He'd been under suicide watch during his time behind bars, she said.
People from all over the country offered to help pay the $1 million bond, Tensing's attorney said Thursday.
Tensing had to make a mandatory $100,000 surety payment – 10 percent of his $1 million bond – to secure his release until trial.
"Ever since the bond was set, I've received calls from around the country from people wanting to contribute to it," attorney Stew Mathews said. "I think people feel like he's getting railroaded here in Cincinnati. You'd have to be blind not to see that.”
Yeah you know I'm not blind, but I certainly don't see any "railroading" here.
What I did see is this glorified mall cop pulling out his weapon when there was no call to do so, and shooting a father of ten right in the head for not having his driver's license on him.
People can watch the video themselves and see if they come up with a different conclusion, but I would be highly suspicious of their motivations if they did.
And let's face it if this cop had shot a white guy in the head, he would most likely still be cooling his heels in a jail cell. But somehow when a white cop shoots a black man, there is a segment of the population that immediately thinks he is going to be treated unfairly by the system and they are determined to help him to be found innocent.
To be fair there is a group on the other side with the exact opposite reaction, but in this case I feel they are the ones who are justified in their fears that this cop will get away with this murder.
Yes: imagine the uproar if it had been a black cop shooting a white guy.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to be white.
ReplyDeleteFirst, he is not a glorified mall cop. UC police officers receive the same training as other police officers at the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy. By calling him a mall cop, I think you lessen the impact of what he did. He has the professional training yet he still murdered this man. And why has no one asked the UC president or the Cincinnati mayor why a campus cop was patrolling off campus. There are very professional campus police officers. This wasn't one of them.
ReplyDeleteI heard a reporter ask that very question tonight.
DeleteApparently, they have a special agreement with the Cincinnati Police to extend their jurisdiction beyond the campus. The reason given was that many students live off campus and the campus police can still deal with them beyond the school's borders.
Somehow I doubt that this particular situation falls under that category since it was a middle-aged man and a traffic stop that had nothing to do with campus activities.
This was nothing but a royal fuck-up by this officer. There's no excuse for what he did. And, maybe he's just a shitty cop, but the strangers who are sending him money are racist assholes.
DeleteHe's not going to get any support from his fellow officers or his higher ups.
Excellent comments about how this guy was supposed to be trained better than a mall cop.
DeleteIt is fairly common around the bigger universities with their own police forces, and yes they are legitimate police forces, to also police beyond the university limits overlapping and coordinating with the local police, and it is definitely not limited to just policing students... police is police. I'm confused as to why this is such a hard concept for people to understand.
DeleteAh, but, Anon at 3:34 pm, the stop involved an African American man and that alone made the poor man fodder for this policeman's irrational, excessive and cruel behavior. God help us!
DeleteAnd, O/T somewhat, I don't think that Sarah Palin has ever expressed any outrage over police brutality towards African Americans or other minority groups. She's such a Republican - all concerned about what they call "the unborn" but absolutely no concern about people who live and share our place on the planet.
Beaglemom
As the prosecutor said it was a chicken crap stop, the proverbial broken tail light. I can see patrolling areas where students live, for the purpose of crime prevention, but they should not be allowed to go fishing like this guy did.
Delete4:01 PM He was bored with patrolling the campus and went 'fishing' for a big catch. That big catch lost his job for him.
Delete3:04 PM Is that why he lasted only one day at the Highway Patrol Academy?
DeleteHe deserves to sit in jail. Anyone who donates to this scum is essentially endorsing police brutality. They're endorsing murder.
ReplyDeleteDo I condone what this driver did? No. But he panicked. He absolutely did not deserve to die for this!
I can't even imagine what it is like to be black in America. Every time they get pulled over they probably think to themselves, "Am I going to get out of this alive?"
This is wrong!! And the rest of us need to protest, speak out and make sure nobody forgets and that this never happens again.
And shame on everyone who is supporting this killer. You are part of the problem!!
Gee, he was under "suicide watch" while in custody, I suppose for his own protection, I wonder how his donors would feel if he offed himself on their dime? And I love the idiot lawyer's statement. It isn't being railroaded, it's being coddled because he's a white murderer. The tapes don't lie.
ReplyDeleteLet ignorant people pay for his defense, it lets the taxpayers off the hook!
ReplyDeleteTensing wasn't a "mall cop", he was a trained police officer.
ReplyDeleteHe completed a two-year training program at Univ of Cinci's Clermont College's Police Academy and had bachelor's in Criminal Justice, too. He was an officer with the Greenhills Police Dept (pop. 3600) for a couple years, then UofC campus police.
Get this though, he enrolled at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy in Columbus but dropped out after one day. Said he "couldn't adapt to the training environment," and went back to UofC campus police. That's just bizarre and should have been a huge red flag.
So it was a supposedly trained police officer who shot a man in the head for not having a front license plate, not having a driver's license, and having a liquor bottle in the car. And he knew he had a body camera running!
It's shocking that in 2015 there are many people, many cops who still think black people are inferior. I can't think of any other reason why a cop executes a man for not having a front license plate, drags a woman out of her car and throws her to ground because she sassed him a little, shoot a 13 year old with a toy gun 2 seconds after they roll up, shoot a man with a toy gun in a Walmart and on and on unless they just don't value that person as an equal human being or maybe not even a human being at all. So sickening.
The cop also has a history of violence,Google his record.
DeleteThe Prosecutor and City are throwing this cop under the bus to try and prevent a riot.
ReplyDeleteThe driver was legitimately pulled over, could not or would not produce a license, surrendered an open bottle of gin, as soon as he started his car- because apparently he thought it was a better idea to flee than to deal with the circumstances, the cop put his arms in the vehicle to try and stop him, the driver jammed the car into gear, with the cop partially inside the car and started moving, and the cop shot him instantly. This all happened in a matter of seconds.
There is no doubt this outcome was one of many possible scenarios that could have happened, but this is the one that happened. It is very sad this gentlemen lost his life. The cop made a split second decision. There is no doubt that he could be considered to have been in danger by the actions of the driver, he could have easily been sucked under the car and run over, and others down the road could have been put in danger by the driver. I see the cop walking. Expect riots.
If he could not produce a license,he gets a ticket. If he has an open container,he gets a ticket. If he was afraid of the cop,he would want to run away.If the cop was partially inside the car and unable to pull himself back,he could not draw his weapon.
DeleteThe cop is a murderer .It's on tape. This one won't walk.
Bullshit momma. The tape is what will exonerate him.
DeleteIt wasn't a stellar performance by anyone. No lisence is not just a ticket, you probably aren't driving your car home with no ID. Open container (of gin, jesus) gets you out of the car for DUI test in the very least, and you aren't driving your car home.
He had no purpose run, the cop had been polite to him, and running is illegal whether you are scared or not. Stop making excuses for people who think they don't have to follow or respect the the law. Aren't you liberals typically the ones who support madd and sadd etc? This is a re-occuring theme.
You either haven't watched the video or you are lying, the cop reached into the car to try and stop him as soon as he turned on the ignition to flee.
Father of 10 out for a sunday gin drive in his best reds, lol.
Gryphen, why are you posting 6:23's racist bullshit?
DeleteDo you think we don't see enough of this all over the fucking internet alldayeveryday?
Where is the racism in any of these comments 7:28?
DeleteNot too sure there 28.
DeleteHe said "sucked under the car"
Maybe we just don't get the joke
Sucked under the car?! Are you thinking it's like the Titanic sinking?
DeleteWhen was the last time you saw someone "sucked under a car" ? Junk science to the rescue, let's get Ralph Nader to expose these sucking cars that you claim pose a threat.
This is such bullshit, I'm embarrassed for you.
All he had to do was turn left and gun it, the cop would have been run over, sucked under the car. He will not be convicted of murder.
Delete@7:28 PM You don't have to read it, bigots are always insulted by the truth.
Delete6:23 PM Are most CON servatives as ignorant as you are?
DeleteRepugs think that no cops can do anything wrong, until they are stopped by a tobacco chewing bigoted cop with his ass on his shoulders. Since you think that the campus cop was following procedures, why don't you hire him?
Delete"Father of 10 out for a sunday gin drive in his best reds, lol."
DeleteNot racist, no. Fuck off.
@6:23 - you are wrong on several accounts.
DeleteDriving without a license in one's possession IS just a ticket. Driving without a valid license on record is what you have assumed - though the driver can clearly be heard stating that his license is valid and asking the cop to "run it," or check.
Also - despite your assumptions, I have rewatched the video and paused several times on the bottle being taken out the open window and set on the car...pretty sure it is unopened and still full.
you only see what you want to see.
The whole POINT is that each of us is entitled to civil rights and innocent until proven guilty - regardless of lifestyle choices or wealth. Therein lies the deep systemic issue with police abuse of power.
...glad to just break that down for you- BIGOT.
Wrong sunny V. I was a white teen in a white suburb years ago pulled over by a white cop. No license, no ID. They took me in and locked my ass up.
DeleteBy the way here is a small breakdown of traffic violations attributed to Mr Dubose.:
"DuBose has been charged with driving without a license more than 13 times between 1995 and 2009, according to court records obtained by Cincinnati’s Fox 19. He has also been charged with driving while suspended eight times from 2005 and 2011 and with failure to display a proper a proper license plate on his vehicle four times between 1995 and 2009. Dubose had more than 75 offenses charged to him over his lifetime."
Out of curiosity, who the fuck in their right mind thinks it is a good idea to start your car and try to pull away when you are in the middle of a traffic stop... after you have handed a bottle of gin to a cop? WTF? And if you read the above list, Mr. Dubose was not in any way 'new' at getting pulled over for violations, including not displaying tags, 4 times previously.
...but the officer did not know any of this when he pulled his gun. If your information is correct, then the officer presumably would have found it all when checking the name or plates via computer. Also - your experience with not having your own license sounds dated. All I can tell you is that is not how it is handled in my (privileged suburban) community - it is a simple ticket for not having the license in one's possession.
DeleteAmerica's racism is costing it plenty. It used to be that tourists would simply avoid the types of places in the US where there had been massacres but they've become aware that all over America police are randomly slaughtering innocent people in the street with impunity and this summer they've stayed away.
ReplyDeleteI think it's unlikely they'll ever come back. Terror tourism is a very small market.
Why are you even bringing racism into this?
DeleteCan white police simply not interact or arrest black people anymore, or be deemed racist?
I don't know if you noticed or not, but the cop didn't arrest the man. He deemed him guilty and executed him him in a 5 second personal trial. Right to lifers should be outraged because every life is sacred, right?
Delete7:45 PM If he walks like a duck.....
DeleteCan you not read, creep?

DeleteIf this cop walks, I predict it will make the Ferguson riots look tame in comparison.
ReplyDeleteAnd Ferguson was all based on a lie and lies, as the officer was exonerated in the DOJ official report of the shooting. Of course by then the Obama administration had already sainted criminal Michael Brown, and it was too late.
