Breaking news: Another theater shooting, this time in Tennessee.

Courtesy of The Tennessean:

Metro police say a suspect who opened fire in a Antioch theater this afternoon also had a hatchet and may have injured one person with the hatchet.

Police said about 2:20 p.m. they were examining two backpacks, one on the suspect and one left in the theater, to make sure they are not dangerous. Police spokesman Don Aaron said officers entered the theater showing Mad Max through the projection room and engaged the suspect in gunfire.

"The officer started at the projection room and started clearing down," Aaron said. "He encountered the gunman. The gunman opened fire on the South Precinct officer. That officer returned his fire, and then backed away out of the theater."

The SWAT team responded and confronted the suspect, Aaron said.

"There was gunfire and the gunman is deceased just inside the movie theater," he said. "So we believe the imminent threat has been ended."

There are reports coming out right now that there were three people injured by pepper spray, one of them also struck with a hatchet. None were shot.

As of now there seem to be no other injuries, and no deaths except for that of the assailant himself.

Probably could not have asked for a better outcome.

  1. Let's remember: This is not the time to talk about gun control. We have a debate on Faux to be concerned with.

Ted Cruz was going to handle it but he was busy making breakfast.

Too early to talk about gun control for this Antioch event, so instead the legislators can talk about the 20 children and 6 adults killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting.

Wanna bet this NEVER is mentioned at the 'debacle" on Fox tomorrow night? Too bad the guy didn't wait a day. Heaven forbid we ask the candidates about gun control. I'm sure the questions are being screened or written by Ailes, the NRA, the Heritage Foundation, ALEC, and the Kochs.

I do not plan to watch. I don't want to hear two hours of Clinton bashing, lies about the government, lies about Obama, chest thumping by millionaires, lies about PP, the ACA, and the peace agreement with Iran. No thanks.

    2. It'll be hard to beat that moment in 2012 when the scenario of a dead gay solider was proffered, the audience cheered, and none of the coward candidates admonished them. Still, with Huckabee, Cruz and Carson on board, it's not an insurmountable challenge.

  8. Because of my hearing loss, I haven't been in a theater since about Apollo 13. (I have to wait for whatever it is to come out on disc with captions.) This brand of fear wasn't even a thing yet.

Even without it, I understand movie-going isn't the peaceful pastime it used to be. At home, you don't have to deal with the bad manners of strangers, not supervising their kids or yacking on cellphones.

The last movie I saw in a theatre was "Braveheart". Not much for movie theaters would rather be at home with freedom to pause and stand up, move around and get snacks.

Looks like he only had a pellet gun. :( But considering the way he acted, you can't really fault the police for shooting him.

If Sandy Hook, etc etc etc wasn't a call for action, we'll have copycat fetishists emulating the Colorado Theater shooting, which, by coincidence, is in the sentencing phase.
Yes, no innocent people died, but people got seriously hurt and traumatized, which is the "mission" this terrorist probably was engaged in.

C'mon, $arah, we know you read here. Yes, after Sandy Hook, you went out and bought purse-carrying ex a new gun in honor of it. Do you celebrate this? You are ever so quiet.....even in the taking out of big game in Zimbabwe because people "can," right? Shoot wolves from helicopters.

      RUN, I DARE you.

Alaskans already have someone in Congress who is a big game hunter/addict. Congressman Don Young has his office decorated with trophy head mounts and last year when a Bill he introduced to the House was voted upon for passage, he didn't vote as he was in Africa on safari that day. Alaska has this covered.
