Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey
The Grapes of Wrath tells of the wealthy who fear the wave of downtrodden coming their way just trying to survive, fearing people who have absolutely nothing and nothing to lose if push must come to shove.
Yes, it IS an excellent question. And we are fairly sure that is exactly what is being done. Unfortunately, KNOWING something and PROVING it in court - even if you can get it to court - is another matter entirely.
Treason doth never prosper, what's the reason? For if it prosper, none dare call it Treason. The fact is, the US government was established by a bunch of extremely wealthy white guys.
Americans should be very concerned and I'm amazed how many pay no attention and/or do not vote - much less read and keep up with what is going on in our country and world.
There are so, so many Republicans that should be taken out as they do us nothing but harm - on all levels of our government.
I truly think we are going to see an uprising - it will include the poor, very poor, middle class that have lost substantially and brown and black folks against the wealthy upper class! Many will also go after specific Republicans that have harmed our nation across America.
I do not see the actions of many as out-right treason. If you asked anyone who has done such deeds their explanations will be filled with phrases like reclaim our greatness and keep government out of our business. It's a tricky and very slippery slope so no recommendations for courtroom solutions here.
Will history label such folk as traitors? I'm not seeing it or feeling it.
What is needed is an understanding by all that Government isn't some big scary monster coming to get all of us. It is a framework that each of us as citizens agree to follow in order to ensure our (humanity) survival. Anarchy sounds all cool and stuff until the boots hit the ground and it's car crashes that alter peoples lives forever. It's common folks who just don't care anymore and rules become for 'other' people, not them.
The only way to combat all of the horrible things done in our past is to embrace the horribleness, forgive ourselves for transgressions real and imagined, and do our dead level best to be better.
As I see it, the only really boogeyman is the person in the mirror. I hope there is something left of civilization when people finally understand that concept.

So Connie, this hate for the government by the republicans is all explained away in your opinion because they tell us they are trying to make America great again? Really?
They are saying... you do understand I'm repeating the words Republicans say every day. Do we really need to recap what was done to get us to here/now?
And as much as I'd LOVE to see those who legislated plundering the USA it won't happen. Why not? Has the USA done ANYTHING to prosecute the last president and his cronies for any of their crimes?
Crickets. I hear crickets and a faint echo of Benghazi!!!!
As for my post being scary? Yeah, it is, because it's correct. I don't like being correct. It makes me cranky to see those in power make rules to enrich themselves, stick the poor with the bill, and then demonize the very system that allows them to be jerks (there are other adjectives but my mother taught me to be a lady). Scary, yeah....
Those who forget the past take the rest of us down the rabbit hole with them. I'm tired of this cycle. Can we stop now?
Absolutely treason. They would have been hung by the neck until dead in the "founding father's" day. But then so would the majority of the g w bush administration. Back then they believed in conserving their ammunition, and the hanging tree was a renewable resource.
Wealth grants celebrity. Celebrity grants a voice. A voice grants power.
We are so easily impressed by people with wealth. So much so that we believe they are better than us and are entitled to more. There are plenty of dumbshits who are wealthy. Some who were born into wealth, others who stumbled into it. other who were just plain lucky. Let's quit treating the wealthy as if they are gods. Many deserve respect, but many don't. A Palin, a Trump, a Kardashian, a Koch don't have a thing I want to hear or need to hear. Nonetheless, they have a platform whenever they want one.
At what point are average people going to realize it serves the interests of the rich if you are poorly educated and barely making ends meet? You don't have the time or the intellectual energy to worry about them.
It doesn't take a genius to see that while workers wages have remained flat for ages, the rich are now reaching pornographic levels of prosperity. Duh! Wonder why that's happening? Got it figured out yet?
It's said that the more people vote, the more Democrats win. That suggest that America is more liberal than conservative. So why are Republicans winning? They hold more local, State, and Federal elected offices. Seems Democrats are lazy, or do not really care about the issues you mention.
It can be explained in part by gerrymandering. You take a state and skillfully cut up the state into, for example, five parts. Two parts are almost all Democrats, so during election time the Dems win big time. However, the other 3 district each have a small majority of republicans. Thus the Repubs win these 3 districts. Final result? 3 repubs in the house and only 2 Democrats. however, the Democrats recived more total votes in the election, yet the repubs control the house. Any questions? If this fails the rebubs also own the electronic voting machines and votes get flipped if necessary.
If you've ever seen maps of gerrymandered districts, they usually meander all over the place, enclosing sections of territory that include large numbers of one party. Historically, it's been done by both parties, but the majority of cases I've read about in the past couple of decades have been done by the Republicans. By changing district lines, they can put most of the Democrats in a small number of districts, thus limiting their voting power. Sometimes, 2 Democratic districts are combined so that the same number of voters only have one representative instead of two.
This article gives some great examples of how gerrymandering resulted in GOP wins despite the Democrats winning the greatest number of overall votes. http://billmoyers.com/2014/11/05/gerrymandering-rigged-2014-elections-republican-advantage/
Another important factor is voter suppression. Most of the new voting regulations passed in the past few years have been designed to reduce the number of voters who traditionally support Democrats. Photo ID requirements, reduction of voting hours and locations in Democratic districts, large-scale purging of voter rolls, and closing of government offices where the required ID can be obtained are all designed to affect minorities, students, poor and senior voters with the goal of reducing the number of Democratic votes.
No one likes to lose an election, but it's infuriating when the winning team only achieved their victory by cheating.
Is that the same reason Democrats held power for decades before Ike came along? Did Joe Kennedy control the ballot boxes (especially in Chicago) during the 1960 election? Neither Nixon, or Reagan won because of gerrymandering. The "fix" is in because Republicans have majority from local to Federal elected offices; which means Democrats haven't done their job, especially since there are more Democratic voters nationwide, than Republican voters. Vote turnout in America was between 85 & 95% from 1804 till after WW II. Kennedy and LBJ won with only 50-55% of Americans voting. Obama won with 63% of America voting and gerrymandering didn't stop his win. I predict a Democrat will win the White House in 2016 regardless of lopsided gerrymandering. GET THE VOTE OUT FOLKS!!
Ok, this is kinda off topic except to show just how grown up the republicans aren't. This last weekend, the Douglas County Republicans held their annual fundraising dinner. (if you remember, Douglas County is home to UCC and also where all the knuckle dragg'n, bugger eating, pot bellied morons demonstrated against Obama when he came to show his condolences to the families of the shooting victims) One of the "fun" things they did was to throw darts at President Obamas' portrait during the course of the fundraiser. What fine, upstanding citizens they all are. In attendance were various County Commissioners (past and present) along with other county officials and Oath Keepers.
Hmmm... I would call it our current fascist government...

ReplyDeleteSince climate change is responsible for the upcoming water crisis, the horrors of war for clean safe drinking water can be laid directly at the feet of the plutocrats who have prevented any mitigating action. Not even their police state will save their miserable hides. If the only way to ensure that water is fit to drink will be to buy it from Nestlé, people dying will riot en masse... and if the CEO is dragged out and hung from a lamp-post, I'll learn to knit again.
