President Obama at his first State of the Union speech and his last one.
He is still beautiful. I knew when I first saw him in 2004 at the Democratic Convention that he would be our president. I am so grateful that we have had him as our nation's leader. Love his family.
It is heartbreaking... also surprising that he doesn't look older and more careworn. No President has had to deal with the sheer amount of threats, disrespect (both to him and his family) and hatred that this man has, and all because he's not a white man.
This is what happens when you TRY to work with the gop. They destroy you. I hope the Obama family enjoys a long, healthy retirement, since it is definitely been EARNED. This President has endured a lot of disrespect, racism and just plain hatred from his so-called "colleagues" and their vile followers. Since there is nobody on their side that even comes close to his integrity and character, they tore him down, or tried to. His decency shines through always. An honest, honorable man of integrity. He will be missed, but he has earned this retirement in spades.
The Republican party has NOT destroyed President Obama! He is still working hard in spite of them and has many more things he'll accomplish during his last year, in spite of them.
Republicans in Congress have shown their racism and true colors. They are a horrible party and need to be voted out of office if they run for reelection in their particular states.
Hope American voters will wise up this next voting cycle.
Dealing with stupid republicans ages you quickly. I'm glad he finally figured out there was NOTHING he could do to work with them. If he said the sky was blue, they'd disagree!!!
My gawd he has aged: what the presidency can do to a person. And he's had a double dose of the stress, trying to govern and be progressive for America, alone, but succeeding. America is now on a knife-edge without his leadership, wisdom and grace.
He has the weight of Republican RACISM on his shoulders. In a year, though, fortunately for him, that weight will be lifted. I certainly hope he takes off the gloves when he leaves office and comes out fighting.
Obama obviously looks older since seven years have gone by between the SOTU photos. Being the President is a stressful position but I'd like to see comparisons of how others have aged over those seven years. When Obama became President, he was at an age when hair begins to gray and wrinkles get deeper. He will definitely be remembered as one of the best US presidents and I'm certain Obama will accomplish many more things during the rest of his life.
I think Bush 2 aged much more than President Obama did in the same amount of time.
I would like to think it was the stress of the guilt he felt for destroying our economy and plunging us into 2 unwinnable wars, but I know he still thinks he did a bang-up job.
I admire and respect President Obama and am happy to say that I voted for him both times. Wish him a wonderful retirement and know that he will continue working for the American people. Also, suspect he'll go down in history as one of our best presidents.
Two things that are for SURE that we've learned since he was elected - racism is still alive and horrible in the USA!
Plus, we have gotten to see how absolutely horrible, hateful and nasty the Republican party is and has been since President Obama was elected the first time! (Mitch McConnell being one of the worse!)
I personally think there are Republicans currently serving in the US Congress that should be tried for treason and serve time in jail! They come across as being more anti American than pro!
They have majorly participated in spreading hate that circles this country. Vote them out of office every chance you get in upcoming elections, Americans! On all levels of government!
Remember too, Republicans are currently majority in Congress - and, they are the most disliked and do nothing group we've had in place in years!
Looks like it's pretty tough on all of them, especially those who serve long terms. Talk about a rough term, Lincoln only had 4 years but wow, he looked 20 years aged.
Every President ages during their 8 years, but thankfully they actually are able to go back to better healthy after they leave office. This aging is actually a good reason to limit Presidential terms to only two, another term might kill the Presidents because of all the stress.
In the meantime, smirking, sneering, rude Paul Ryan who is third in line for the presidency says that President Obama's great SOTU address "degrades the presidency." The mere thought of Paul Ryan or any other Republican anywhere near the presidency degrades it. I'm waiting patiently for the news media, including the Washington Post and the New York Times to criticize Ryan's statement. Beaglemom
Once he is out of there, he will be free of constraints, and will soar even higher in greatness. One thing though, hopefully he will never mention Palin's name in any context except when writing or talking about the campaigns, and only as a GOP selection along with McCain She will be waiting with baited breath for him to acknowledge her as important and relevant.
I have thought, right from the beginning that Obama was our gift...America's gift to survive. To think these 8 years were not a supreme sacrifice given by his entire family is to be really ignorant of the facts. This campaign season has really shown the light on the deepest, darkest side of our country....the GOP side of hate & fear masking the real agenda of corporate greed. This country needs to vote...voting is the only way out of this mess, not every 4 years, but every local election.
It is heartbreaking, but in a way he looks even more distinguished. He did the best he could, and for that he has my respect and gratitude. I wish his parents lived to see him soar. in his roles as President, Husband and Father.
Tough job when you really want to make a difference and facilitate change.....as President Obama has done with extreme grace and dignity. He is no longer a fresh faced idiolist but a battle worn hero. Thank you President Obama.

ReplyDeleteHe's looking fastactic. But yes, he had to deal with a lot of evil men and women.

This is what having a crazy self-destructive roommate in the House for 7 years will do to a person. Of course, I'm talking about the GOP.

ReplyDeleteHe aged MUCH better than most men do in 7 years. He looks fantastic.
DeleteNo question that the stress of the presidency ages a person, but DAMN is that man sexy!

ReplyDeleteHe looks slightly older, and does not have that much more white hair than he did 7 years ago.
ReplyDeleteHe looks SLIGHTLY older, and does NOT have that much more white hair.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama has far exceeded my expectations. Looking forward to the general campaign and seeing his role in the future.

ReplyDeleteThey all age rapidly in that job. I could never figure out why Dubya did, however. He never worried about any of the death and mayhem he caused.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and he did as much work as "Governor" Palin did.

TIME FOR A BIG CHANGE! Knock them on their butts!

ReplyDeleteThe job of president is stressful enough without the racism, birtherism, and the constant obstructionism for the R congress.
If this country votes in any one of those in the clown car as leader, they deserve what they vote for... the rest of us don't deserve it.
