Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

School to prison pipeline explained. This is chilling.
I have actually witnessed this happening in Anchorage schools
IM - Have you seen it occur with native, black and Mexican kids? What about observing it with white kids? I'm curious. Is it only done to 'certain' kids within the Anchorage School System?
Don't like the idea of your seeing physical force used on school kids by the Anchorage Police Department.
Reporting from Canada here. We had "zero tolerance" suspensions a number of years ago under a Conservative provincial government. It boxed principals in, forcing some bad decisions. Thankfully, the policy was removed later.
My partially native child attends a spanish immersion in Oregon.. He is often bullied. The school believes in "repairative" Justice.
End result. He hates school. Gets wedgied.. Aka sexual assault.. And the mean boy kid who does this to him.. Well.. My son is forced into "at school play dates" with him. Talk about creating a situation where my child believes this is what friendship looks like.
I wish the little shit head would be suspended. He deserves it. Ironically, his mother runs out local women's shelter. Yes.. I have filed a complaint with the district, the school..
I understand your frustration. Sometimes a situation is treated like two parties in conflict with each other and it's not. It's just one party doing something wrong. And it should be the adults in the building who work at addressing the problem, at it's source. "At school play dates". Shudder. Friendship cannot and should not be enforced. When the bully is not included in a social situation and it is solely because of bullying behaviour, it's an opportunity to recognize reality. People don't want to be around you when you are being mean. Stop being mean. And people will likely give you a chance to join again.
Sometimes it is helpful to seek out a sympathetic school board member and ask for help. I'm glad you're an advocate for your son. Don't give up. Write letters to the newspaper etc. I am a teacher. I've seen it work. You will be helping other kids who are being bullied as well.
I've seen it myself, and I've also seen the better outcomes with conflict resolution in place. Please, make this go viral. I belonged to "the sunshine foundation", a non profit whose mission is to take inner city schools out to the suburbs to live with families for the summer. They participated in all the activities my kids did, went on trips and vacations, and lived with us. It was a win/win situation for all of us, and many are still friends or keep in touch.
It happens everywhere.

On a thread about school to prison pipeline, I'm gonna ask what happened to IM's post about the US spending on Military vs. Education?
