Nancy Reagan passes away.

Courtesy of NBC News:

Nancy Reagan, one of the most high-profile and influential first ladies of the 20th century, has died, according to a spokeswoman with the Reagan Library. She was 94.

The cause of death was congestive heart failure, according to her rep Joanne Drake. "Mrs. Reagan will be buried at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, next to her husband, Ronald Wilson Reagan, who died on June 5, 2004," Drake wrote in a statement.

I actually have a lot of conflicted feelings about Nancy Reagan.

On the one hand she was married to, and  helped enable, a President who I think helped to delay progress in this country at least twenty years or more.

She was also the spokesperson for that stupid "Just Say No" anti-drug campaign that was not only ineffective but which set the stage for the zero tolerance drug policies of the Reagan administration and the war on drugs that we are still waging on minorities to this day.

Nancy also consulted an astrologer to help set the President's agenda, which is a fairly frightening idea, but then again it probably was no worse than allowing Reagan's ultra conservative advisers help set it.

Yep all in all I have pretty mixed feelings about the passing of Nancy Reagan.

The same cannot be said for those who have deified Ronald Regan, such as our own northern necrophiliac Sarah Palin:
See right over there is where you can go fuck yourself for endorsing Trump.
Rest In Peace, Nancy Davis Reagan. Thank you for your service, and for sharing your life with America as you helped inspire our nation to believe we could be that shining city on a hill. God bless your legacy. - Sarah Palin

Damn, she is so predictable sometimes.

As if she has not pissed all over Reagan's memory by endorsing Donald Trump in this election cycle.

In fact has anybody considered that Trump's inevitable nomination might be what finally killed the 94  year old? I sure wouldn't count that out.

I doubt it unless he/she was a Vedic astrologer.
I think she used astrology for her own life and his not for the country, otherwise we would of had a "presidential astrologer".
Just b/c old man raygun was a douche can't blame it on her.
I just shocked SP was too busy having fun in the sun to comment on this important matter, took her HOURS to comment!

"In fact has anybody considered that Trump's inevitable nomination might be what finally killed the 94 year old?"

I wondered about that, too. From what I know of Nancy Reagan, Trump's campaign would have distressed her a lot. And, yes, she disliked Sarah Palin immensely. Sarah was not invited to the Reagan 100th birthday celebration and had to wrangle a gig with the Young Republicans to cover her humiliation.

I highly recommend "The Way I See It" an autobiography by Patti Davis, the Reagan's daughter, copyright 1992.

From the cover..."'The Way I See It' is not only poignant but heartbreaking. It is a portrait of a deeply troubled family hiding behind the lights of Hollywood and the presidency. And it is the story of a celebrated daughter determined to put the past in perspective."

I also really like Ron Reagan, Jr., and enjoy hearing him on MSNBC. He's intelligent, well-versed in politics, both old and new, has a nice sense of humor and a very pleasant manner.

Anita, I'm so sorry to read this? I remember as a kid walking home and crying b/c President Kennedy was shot. News on the radio said a psychic tried to warn him. Her Name was Jean Dixon and I was fascinated by her and what she does. There are wondrous things in the world, most people don't care to look...

    3. Good grief, 6:20. From that Wilipedia entry:

      ----------------
Dixon reportedly predicted the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. In the May 13, 1956, issue of Parade Magazine she wrote that the 1960 presidential election would be "dominated by labor and won by a Democrat" who would then go on to "[B]e assassinated or die in office though not necessarily in his first term." She later admitted, “During the 1960 election, I saw Richard Nixon as the winner”,[10] and at the time made unequivocal predictions that JFK would fail to win the election.[11]

John Allen Paulos, a mathematician at Temple University, coined the term 'the Jeane Dixon effect', which references a tendency to promote a few correct predictions while ignoring a larger number of incorrect predictions.[1] Many of Dixon's predictions proved false, such as her claims that a dispute over the offshore Chinese islands of Quemoy and Matsu would trigger the start of World War III in 1958, that American labor leader Walter Reuther would run for President of the United States in the 1964 presidential election, that the second child of Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and his young wife Margaret would be a girl (it was a boy), and that the Russians would be the first to put men on the moon.[15][16]

They're ok for shits and giggles, but not much else, bringing one in the White House just lowers the First Lady's credence, just my opinion.

  8. Anonymous5:26 PM

I think she evolved in a number of ways, and if someone evolves then that person deserves respect. Years later, she had the love of her family and healed relationships with her kids, and that, to me, is what says something.

What I cannot stand, though,is hearing, over and over again on TV, how she brought class back to the White House. The First Ladies after Jackie Kennedy (I'm guessing that's when the comparison starts)and before her were not perfect (and didn't do everything they could to hide any dysfunction like she did), but they all had class, and I think Mrs. Carter had far more than most First Ladies.

Also, all day I've heard how Mrs. Reagan helped shape policy and was a key adviser. Yes she went to college, but she was an actress. Hillary went beyond a bachelor level and became a lawyer and held jobs working with the law and policies and causes of all types. Yet when she opened her mouth when she became First Lady, all we heard was how she had no business being involved in anything, and she was told by the GOP to shut up.

Homeless people started appearing everywhere because they were given their "freedom" from tax-payer supported mental institutions that kept them housed and provided with medication. He and Nancy were so SNOTTY about the Carters and the solar panels on the White House. If this country had done even 10% of the energy conservation Carter & his administration suggested, I do not believe we would have had half the war-mongering waste of lives and reputation (and money, that's important too) in the decades since. Reagan raised taxes and raised the deficit ceiling and intrigued with terrorists and lied his shiny plastic head off.

"She urged Reagan to finally break his long silence on the AIDS crisis. She nudged him to publicly accept responsibility for the arms-for-hostages scandal. I swear I thought news of the Republican's behavior is what did her in as well. How sad and disappointed she must have been.

The photo of Sarah out horseback riding with Ronald Reagan is a fake. When he left office in the 1980's, he already had Alzeihimers and wasn't mixing with visitors. Reagan died in 1989, so it is unlikely that he would be riding with Sarah at his ranch a few years ago. It's a photo shopped photo. Sarah is riding with the ghost of Ronald Reagan.

Here are the actual photos of Sarah riding a horse at the Reagan Ranch.

Sarah does not know how to ride horseback on a Western saddle. She is a "dude, meaning a beginner, a green horn, she is holding onto the saddle horn which is a big no-no! She is holding the reins wrong, fingers down, not up. Her feet in the stirrups are place wrong. She has her toes down. If the horse just stumbles over a rock, Sarah will flip over the horse's neck. She is supposed to have her heels down, to prevent that. Also, if she needs to get the horse to move, she can nudge the horse with her heels.

If you need more proof, here is the photo of Reagan on the white horse, identified as taken in 1985. Happy Trails,Sarah.

  25. Another thing about Nancy:

As the governor's wife, she abandoned the official governor's mansion, a historic Victorian mansion in central Sacramento that she claimed was a fire hazard, in favor of a sprawling built-to-order ranch house in the distant suburbs. On the taxpayers' dime of course.

The ranch was a "gift" from his colleagues, probably as repayment for all the favors thrown their way.

Like I said above, I'm sure she did despise Sarah Palin, 'cause Nancy would have known exactly what Sarah was about.
Nancy had slightly more class and brains than Sarah, but 1) that's not saying much, and 2) it made her that much more dangerous.

I was never a fan of Nancy Reagan. Her "Just Say No" campaign was too much for this old stoner.

I do like their son, Ron Reagan. I am always happy to catch him on MSNBC.

I never liked Ronald Reagan either. It bothered me that an actor could attain such prominence, and I distrusted his judgement.

He was likeable and their marriage is inspirational.

Still don't like them. Only dislike their politics. As actors, they were B rate at best.

If I gotta watch Rubio pimping Reagan one more time I'm gonna need a new tv because I'm gonna throw something through the screen.Reagan was a joke as president.Good for the rich and neocons and that was about it.I found that warm folksy manner phony and remember thinking how can people fall for this shit.He is still doing damage to this day.No Ronnie was no saint and ran the most corrupt regimes in recent history. He should have been impeached.

His makeup artist should have been fired!!Those rosy cheeks were really strange, plus the black, black shoe polish hair. I do like Ron Jr, though.

The best I can say for Nancy Reagan is that she wore pretty clothes. She wielded a lot of influence while her husband was playing at being president. I think she should have used that influence to get him to quit after his first term. They all knew that he was suffering from dementia and they used him - well beyond his "sell by date."

9:50 AM Jane Wyman. Sarah Palin would overlook any adultery by Ronald Reagan.
