That Fox News Democratic town hall was actually supposed to be a debate between Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump.

Courtesy of Mediaite:

The first Fox New Democratic town hall held Monday night had its origins as a planned debate between Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump, but the idea was scrapped after Trump pulled out of the debate.

The New York Times reports that Fox executives had the idea, which would have “made primary debate history” as the first face-off between Democratic and Republican presidential candidates before either party picked its nominee. The Sanders campaign agreed to the debate and the Trump campaign was “very intrigued” with the idea.

However, “before the debate could be announced, the Trump campaign pulled out, citing scheduling conflicts, so the network planned to welcome just Mr. Sanders in an hourlong town-hall-style event, hosted by Bret Baier as part of his ‘Special Report’ program.” Shortly after Fox announced the Sanders town hall, Hillary Clinton accepted an earlier invitation that she had rebuffed and the Democratic town hall was born.

Damn, as much as I enjoyed watching Hillary kneecap Bret Baier over the e-mail "scandal" I have to admit it pales in comparison to the joy I would have experienced watching Bernie Sanders embarrass Trump on the conservative propaganda network.

I would like to simply call Trump a coward here, but it is smart of him to refuse this invitation. He would come off looking like an idiot.

However I kind of feel badly for Bernie.

After the town hall nobody really cared much about what he had to say, and Hillary stole the limelight.

But if it had been Sanders vs Trump, it would have greatly elevated Bernie is the polls and definitely showed the world that he could defeat the Donald in the general.

That is what I want to see. Hilary needs to go far away with her duplicity and Obama copying bad policies. Also. Rahm supporting her is a huge negative.

This sours me even more on Sanders. I can't imagine either party would sanction a Sanders-Trump town hall--it would be disadvantageous to all other candidates at this point. It's troubling that Sanders agreed to it.

Bernie knew it would be an unsanctioned debate and he would draw fire from the DNC and that is exactly why he would have agreed to this debate and it's another example showing that Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat.

    7. You know when I posted this I was not thinking about the fact that it was a little back stabbing for Sanders to agree to a debate like this with the likely GOP nominee, before the nomination process had run its course, but you guys are right that this IS a shitty thing to do.

@ Phyliss, If Bernie doesn't like our party than maybe he should have run under his own party's banner? Oh, but that would have been too much work, he wants the democratic setup but spits at us democrats. F Bernie.

"The media, the Democrat Party was able to convince a majority of Americans that Bush was rotten, that Bush was a liar, that Bush was incompetent, that Bush was stupid, and all of the reverence that he showed for the office didn't matter," Limbaugh said.

In attempting to explain why people are not "disgusted" by Trump's behavior, Limbaugh pointed to a "different generational era, particularly in our pop culture."

"And there are people, and probably an increasing number of people, who don't find anything wrong — in fact, not only do they not find anything wrong about it, they think it's refreshing," he said. They think it's refreshing that a real guy who talks like real people — i.e., like they do — is not acting all heady and lofty and uppity over them and is just behaving like anybody else would, like they would if they were in the same shoes."

I so admired Bush's reverence for the position, especially the reverent way he reverently placed his reverent boots upon the reverent desk in the reverent Oval Office.

I envy people who are so out of touch that they can tell you they believe in God at the same that they encourage destructive freaks like Limbaugh to flourish.

Bernie keeps telling everyone he is anti-establishment,however has Bernie every held a position that was NOT in politics?

He was mayor and a senator, seems like he has been a politician his whole working career, so he is establishment just like the rest of them as far as I am concerned.

It's a shame the coward pulled out of the Townhall. Typical bully.

But the good news is that if he gets the nomination, it doesn't matter who the Democrats nominate, they'll win.

I just wish the Bernie bashing and dismissing would stop. It's as much ageism as bashing Hillary is sexism.

Me *calls Planned Parenthood for lady doctor appointments for me and Zoe*
PP: As of the new year we can't treat you unless you have a referral.
Me *calls primary care physician* *no available appointments*
Me *calls new clinic* *refuses to see me after my work hours because I'm a new patient and need to come in at eleven or.... Whatever*
Me *calls clinic an hour away per last clinics suggestion* *you should call Planned Parenthood we don't do that on your insurance*
Me: Well I guess we just don't need those frivolous things like yearly check ups or birth control. Silly me.

If they were on the up and up why not invite all the candidates- because while it would be entertaining, it would be a waste of time.

Can you imagine the yelling, the name calling from the clowns !!!

If Bernie wants to run as a Democrat he should act like one, otherwise run as a Independent and stop trying to fool people.

Bernie knows nobody would vote for him if he ran as what he is, Ron Paul's Libertarians have never brought a candidate home, and they never will.

I'm a Democrat. I'll vote for the Democrat. Any man who thinks he's too good for the Democrats isn't worth my time. It's that simple.

Donald Trump would never debate a real politician. A first-term senator that has spent most of their term getting personal publicity, yes, a politician even like Kasich, no way. Trump has no debating skills. Trump has no evident skills of any description. Trump could never face Bernie Sanders- Trump couldn't even face Megyn Kelly.

Trump is chickenshit. I'm glad this story finally escaped, it'll make crap4palin look even worse.

Hillary and Bernie think before they speak, having Trump there would be like watching Hillary and Bernie debate the issues while someone reads Trump the rules to "connect four". In other words, they'd eat him alive and spit out his bones like a fish.
Trump will most certainly lose if he becomes the nominee. He's not good at thinking on his feet nor thinking ahead to the possible follow up question while answering the first.

I keep recalling Ann Richards saying "Poor George, he was born with a silver foot in his mouth"

    1. No.

Trump would still have bowed out (citing dry cleaning issues having peed his pants) and Bernie would have been invited.

End would have still been the same.

I think this was an attempt by Fox to torpedo Trump using the Democratic candidates to make him look like a moron and a wuss and Trump didn't bite.

They could have asked Cruz or Rubio to debate Bernie but they didn't want to take the chance that Bernie would wipe the floor with them instead.
