The first Fox New Democratic town hall held Monday night had its origins as a planned debate between Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump, but the idea was scrapped after Trump pulled out of the debate.
The New York Times reports that Fox executives had the idea, which would have “made primary debate history” as the first face-off between Democratic and Republican presidential candidates before either party picked its nominee. The Sanders campaign agreed to the debate and the Trump campaign was “very intrigued” with the idea.
However, “before the debate could be announced, the Trump campaign pulled out, citing scheduling conflicts, so the network planned to welcome just Mr. Sanders in an hourlong town-hall-style event, hosted by Bret Baier as part of his ‘Special Report’ program.” Shortly after Fox announced the Sanders town hall, Hillary Clinton accepted an earlier invitation that she had rebuffed and the Democratic town hall was born.
Damn, as much as I enjoyed watching Hillary kneecap Bret Baier over the e-mail "scandal" I have to admit it pales in comparison to the joy I would have experienced watching Bernie Sanders embarrass Trump on the conservative propaganda network.
I would like to simply call Trump a coward here, but it is smart of him to refuse this invitation. He would come off looking like an idiot.
However I kind of feel badly for Bernie.
After the town hall nobody really cared much about what he had to say, and Hillary stole the limelight.
But if it had been Sanders vs Trump, it would have greatly elevated Bernie is the polls and definitely showed the world that he could defeat the Donald in the general.
That is what I want to see. Hilary needs to go far away with her duplicity and Obama copying bad policies. Also. Rahm supporting her is a huge negative.
ReplyDelete????? Are you drunk?
DeleteRepeat after me...
DeletePresident Hillary Clinton
Obviously Anon at 2:13 pm has not been on Planet Earth since January 20, 2009.
DeleteBeaglemom
You need to take a shower, honey. Your pond slime is showing.
DeleteObviously you seem to overlook that the only one that was performing any duplicity was Bernie the Slug Sanders.
DeleteSorry, WTF isn't my second language. What number does one push for that?
DeleteThis sours me even more on Sanders. I can't imagine either party would sanction a Sanders-Trump town hall--it would be disadvantageous to all other candidates at this point. It's troubling that Sanders agreed to it.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of shiftiness on the part of the Sanders' campaign.
Delete2:31 You got that RIGHT.
Deletetroubling? WTF is going on?
HRC is ABOVE ALL these little dicks.
Bernie knew it would be an unsanctioned debate and he would draw fire from the DNC and that is exactly why he would have agreed to this debate and it's another example showing that Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat.
DeletePhyllis at 3:24 pm. You said exactly what I was thinking. Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat. He is using the Democratic Party for his own purposes, whatever they really are.
DeleteBeaglemom
Phyllis at 3:24 pm. I'm not sure if my response got through or if it morphed above. Anyway, you wrote exactly what I was thinking. Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat. He is using the Democratic Party.
DeleteBeaglemom
Also too it's feckin' sneaky.
DeleteYou know when I posted this I was not thinking about the fact that it was a little back stabbing for Sanders to agree to a debate like this with the likely GOP nominee, before the nomination process had run its course, but you guys are right that this IS a shitty thing to do.
Delete@ Phyliss, If Bernie doesn't like our party than maybe he should have run under his own party's banner? Oh, but that would have been too much work, he wants the democratic setup but spits at us democrats. F Bernie.
DeleteBernie is registered as an Independent for his next Senate run. That says it all. He's so opportunistic!
Delete"The media, the Democrat Party was able to convince a majority of Americans that Bush was rotten, that Bush was a liar, that Bush was incompetent, that Bush was stupid, and all of the reverence that he showed for the office didn't matter," Limbaugh said.
ReplyDeleteIn attempting to explain why people are not "disgusted" by Trump's behavior, Limbaugh pointed to a "different generational era, particularly in our pop culture."
"And there are people, and probably an increasing number of people, who don't find anything wrong — in fact, not only do they not find anything wrong about it, they think it's refreshing," he said. They think it's refreshing that a real guy who talks like real people — i.e., like they do — is not acting all heady and lofty and uppity over them and is just behaving like anybody else would, like they would if they were in the same shoes."
I so admired Bush's reverence for the position, especially the reverent way he reverently placed his reverent boots upon the reverent desk in the reverent Oval Office.
DeleteI envy people who are so out of touch that they can tell you they believe in God at the same that they encourage destructive freaks like Limbaugh to flourish.
Bernie: a noun, a verb, and Wall Street
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Wall Street the DOW finished at 17,000 even today. Unbelievable! I'm for HRC if she can continue this unimaginable growth in investments, Obama has been incredible for this country, and for my bottom line :-)
DeleteBernie keeps telling everyone he is anti-establishment,however has Bernie every held a position that was NOT in politics?
DeleteHe was mayor and a senator, seems like he has been a politician his whole working career, so he is establishment just like the rest of them as far as I am concerned.
3:42, you left out congressman.
DeleteBernie is a highly successful career politician. This "outsider"'stuff is nonsense.
DeleteSounds to me like they were trying to screw with Hillary. Both of them. And Trump knew Bernie would make him sound like the petulant child he is, so he backed out. Bernie never should have agreed to this in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI'm not that sure that Bernie Sanders can make another person look like a petulant child, with his endless pointing and eyerolling, grunting and more grunting, swaying and snorting...
DeleteNow it isn't. The anti -Bernie claim has been that he won't be able to win in the general. This would have quelled that.
ReplyDeleteReal Clear Politics shows that NBC and Wall St Journal polls show that both Clinton and Sanders could win against Trump. In fact Sanders is +18 and Clinton is only +13.
DeleteIt's a shame the coward pulled out of the Townhall. Typical bully.
But the good news is that if he gets the nomination, it doesn't matter who the Democrats nominate, they'll win.
I just wish the Bernie bashing and dismissing would stop. It's as much ageism as bashing Hillary is sexism.
Trump reminds me of someone else that would cancel events where she knew she would be in over her head citing "scheduling conflicts".
ReplyDelete"She" would never admit she was over her head, even though "she" was over her head in the wading pool.
DeleteRemember, in the debate "she" had with Biden, she was told to switch the subject when there was a question she didn't know the answer to and Gwen Ifill let her get away with it. If it were me, I would have said, "Thank you for shsring. Now answer the question!"
DeleteThey all KNEW she was an idiot! Joe Biden's words to his adviser coming offstage, "you OWE me," because he could have had her for lunch and chose not to.
The pee pond to this day still thinks she won. hahahahaha
Meanwhile, in the Republicn "No war on women"........
ReplyDeleteA friend just posted this about her and her daughter trying to see Planned Parenthood for OB-GYN checkups. This is in Phoenix.
----------------------------------------------
Me *calls Planned Parenthood for lady doctor appointments for me and Zoe*
PP: As of the new year we can't treat you unless you have a referral.
Me *calls primary care physician* *no available appointments*
Me *calls new clinic* *refuses to see me after my work hours because I'm a new patient and need to come in at eleven or.... Whatever*
Me *calls clinic an hour away per last clinics suggestion* *you should call Planned Parenthood we don't do that on your insurance*
Me: Well I guess we just don't need those frivolous things like yearly check ups or birth control. Silly me.
Your friend should tell that to the Hillary Clinton campaign. The Sanders campaign wouldn't be interested.
DeleteReally now?

Like all bullies, Trump is a coward.
ReplyDeleteBeaglemom
That is for sure, however this whole debate between ONLY two of the opposing candidates sounds really fishy to me.
DeleteIf they were on the up and up why not invite all the candidates- because while it would be entertaining, it would be a waste of time.
Can you imagine the yelling, the name calling from the clowns !!!
If Bernie wants to run as a Democrat he should act like one, otherwise run as a Independent and stop trying to fool people.
Bernie knows nobody would vote for him if he ran as what he is, Ron Paul's Libertarians have never brought a candidate home, and they never will.
DeleteI'm a Democrat. I'll vote for the Democrat. Any man who thinks he's too good for the Democrats isn't worth my time. It's that simple.
O/T Trump's Gestapo doesn't even like reporters from the far right nuts cases.

Oh my, Sara won't know who to attack!
DeleteDonald Trump would never debate a real politician. A first-term senator that has spent most of their term getting personal publicity, yes, a politician even like Kasich, no way. Trump has no debating skills. Trump has no evident skills of any description. Trump could never face Bernie Sanders- Trump couldn't even face Megyn Kelly.
ReplyDeleteTrump is chickenshit. I'm glad this story finally escaped, it'll make crap4palin look even worse.
I think it was Michael Moore that said he was going to be on a talk show with Trump and Trump met with him before hand to make sure Moore would be nice to him and not ask him any gotcha questions.
DeleteTrump maybe a bully but he is also a coward and a wimp. None of which are exclusive to the other.
What does trump look like with the hair down? The top looks fairly long. When at home does he let it all hang down? What does that look like?
ReplyDeleteExcept the Bernie Bros tried to make it seem like hillary was too scared to show up. And finally, the truth is that Hillary was not invited until trump was a no-show.
ReplyDeleteSeems very strange to me that the Bernie Bros chose to attack Hillary instead of Trump. Are the Bernie Bros all the old Ron Paul voters that never figured out he was just padding his retirement through fake Presidential runs?
As a lifelong Democrat, I am truly going to have to think long and hard before I ever would think of voting for Bernie " the slimeball" Sanders.
ReplyDelete+1
DeletePlease explain in what way he is a slimeball?
DeleteTrump is a pussy
ReplyDeleteReminds me of 2008 when the McCain campaign kept their retard away from situations that would question her knowledge and embarrass John McCain.
Hillary and Bernie think before they speak, having Trump there would be like watching Hillary and Bernie debate the issues while someone reads Trump the rules to "connect four". In other words, they'd eat him alive and spit out his bones like a fish.
ReplyDeleteTrump will most certainly lose if he becomes the nominee. He's not good at thinking on his feet nor thinking ahead to the possible follow up question while answering the first.
I keep recalling Ann Richards saying "Poor George, he was born with a silver foot in his mouth"
If Hillary had accepted her invitation right away before Sanders did, would she have been the one to debate directly with Trump?
ReplyDeleteNo.
DeleteTrump would still have bowed out (citing dry cleaning issues having peed his pants) and Bernie would have been invited.
End would have still been the same.
I think this was an attempt by Fox to torpedo Trump using the Democratic candidates to make him look like a moron and a wuss and Trump didn't bite.
They could have asked Cruz or Rubio to debate Bernie but they didn't want to take the chance that Bernie would wipe the floor with them instead.

ReplyDeleteGryphen, read the third paragraph.Hillary accepted an invitation which she had earlier rebuffed.I used to enjoy this blog. Now it's all Hillary all the time.Hillary is no progressive by any stretch of the imagination.First she was for the Keystone pipeline, now against. For TPP "the gold standard of trade agreements",now against it.Bernie released the transcript of his speeches to Wall Street, why won't Hillary?I was an early boster of Obama but when he refused to vote for the censure of the big telecoms when he was running against Hillary I knew he was just another politician.
