One of the more uplifting sections in Melania Trump’s convention speech tonight was virtually identical to a passage from Michelle Obama’s convention speech in 2008.
I kind of exaggerated how much of the speech was plagiarized in the headline for comedic value, but it IS still a speech given by a wannabe First Lady that borrows liberally from a speech given by the current First Lady, so it is definitely worthy of mocking.
What's more it speaks to the sloppiness of the Trump campaign which has been pointed out again and again. After all how you run your campaign is a voter's first hint as to how you will run the country.
And so far it appears that Trump would run it into the ground.
Speaking of the campaign Trump's campaign manager knows just whose fault all of this is....Hillary's.
Courtesy of Politico:
But Tuesday morning on CNN’s “New Day,” Manafort categorically denied that Melania Trump’s speech had been lifted in any way from remarks by Obama or anyone else.
“I thought Melania Trump hit it out of the park when she talked about her love of family, the feeling of an immigrant that comes to this country and succeeds,” Manafort said. “And I thought that the feeling she has towards her husband and her depiction of the real Donald Trump came through loud and clear.”
“There's no cribbing of Michelle Obama's speech. These are common words and values that she cares about her family, things like that,” he continued when asked by anchor Chris Cuomo about the plagiarism allegations. “I mean, she was speaking in front of 35 million people last night. She knew that. To think that she would be cribbing Michelle Obama's words is crazy. This is once again an example of when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, how she seeks out to demean her and take her down. It's not going to work.”
For the record news outlets and folks on social media were already pointing out the plagiarism well before anybody on the Clinton campaign got around to tweeting it out.
Besides I think we all know where the blame really lies.
Yep, that makes sense.
Update: Jokes on you liberals, Melania Trump did not plagiarize Michelle Obama. She plagiarized Twilight Sparkle.
Damn, just how deep is this rabbit hole? Here is the RNC'a chief strategist citing My Little Pony to argue that Melania Trump did not plagiarize her speech pic.twitter.com/eRifu41wHC— Dave Itzkoff (@ditzkoff) July 19, 2016
Now Rawstory says "Save my marriage" because Melania, a college graduate (not) told Lauer she wrote the speech. Now, sounds like she fears for her marriage as donald is loyal to no one.
ReplyDeleteEvery relationship with Trump is tenuous.
DeleteHey, Maleria, remember "A man who marries his mistress creates a job opening" You are getting old, while Donald is still a very young teen!!
DeleteShe's a phony like Donald and the rest of his clan. They are all hucksters.
DeleteMelania has claimed to be a college graduate. She's actually a drop-out.
Delete"she was accepted at the University of Ljubljana to study architecture. But at the same time her modeling career was beginning to flourish."
"she abandoned the degree, moving first to Milan where she met New York agent Paolo Zampolli - the matchmaker who introduced her to Trump."

Boy, the spin from the RNC is fascinating. Not her fault. Not Michelle's words,. Just words, anyone can use them. Deport all immigrants and let no more in, but isn't Melania amazing having come here as an immigrant and succeeded in marrying a millionaire (ZsaZsa would be so proud.) It's be more amazing if the woman could speak English and actually write her own speeches, or at least Google some cool phrases and then say, "As Michelle Obama said in 2008..." See how easy that is, Melania? And yes, dear, I have a college degree and you don't, but I also don't have speech writers, maids, hairdressers, and private jets at my disposal. And let us know when your son learns about 'hard work' and 'honesty' from Daddy the Cheat.
ReplyDeleteTrue or Not: She is a Model.
DeleteKnauss studied design at the High School of Design in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, and architecture at the University of Ljubljana,[3][17][18][7][16] dropping out after her first year.
Then she came over to the US and studied "How to get a VERY rich husband" Trouble is, tRump is NOT nearly as rich as he professes to be.
DeletePerhaps her pornography should be outed too.
DeleteMelanoma did not drop out she flunked out her freshman year but has touted herself as a college graduate ad nauseum.
DeleteHer lying is as poorly handled as the boob job she got to promote her modeling career when she couldn't get work. Google it.
That dress last night was altered to cup her big A** and very inappropriate.
The GQ naked pose on the private jet when she was Drumpf's girlfriend is available on the internet. Google it - print it - share it. First lady? First whore, actually.
DeletePoor Melania she can only mimic royalty.

The front of the dress was bunched up, making her look pregnant. Surely she will not plagerize PayMe and give birth to a handicapped child.
DeleteSince political correctness and basic decency have been routed by tRump from the public political discourse....let's just drop the foreign sounding "Melahhhnia" and americanize it to Melanie which is, of course, shortened to Mel. Mel Trump, sounds much more 'mercan.
ReplyDeleteAlsotoo, Mel for #1stMILF...w/pics!

DeleteThere's also the literal (Rick Astley) rickroll from the Vox article "Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down." And there's this:
ReplyDeleteMelania said:
Always trust yourself, think for yourself, act for yourself, speak for yourself. Be yourself!
Weirdly, this quote was literally about speaking for yourself, but Melania stole it from another intelligent Chicago black lady:
“Trust yourself. Think for yourself. Act for yourself. Speak for yourself. Be yourself. Imitation is suicide.”

ReplyDeleteI haven't read any comment from Hillary about this. But to blame her for it is truly amazing.
ReplyDeleteYou have to wonder where all of these cockroaches are going to scurry off to after the election.
Pat Padrnos
I love the silence from First Lady Michelle and President Obama! They don't need to utter a word and they know it!
DeleteThey are such a class act and have always been!
Trumps - on the other hand - hardly!
Manafort couldn't poop this morning. Hillary's fault.
DeleteYou mean current First Lady.
ReplyDeleteI think Manfort would throw her under the bus.
DeleteThe media is giving Mrs. Trump a pass. They assume she didn't write the speech, even though she said in an interview that she wrote the speech with very little help.
ReplyDeleteIf Trump runs the country the same way he runs his businesses and now the campaign, we will be in a world of hurt if he wins.
Everyone please get the non voters in your circle to register to vote. Then get them to the polls. Unless they support Trump, then don't bother.
I was glad to see last night that someone (Huffpo) was finally drawing attention to the fact that Melania lies on her website about having a college degree (article says her speech was "as credible as" her degree). She was a victim of Trump's people last night, but lying is also not new to her. Melania twists the truth often, just like Donald. I've commented on many sites about how Melania's site is filled with lies or at least exaggerations, like about the college degree and that her magazine covers were got on her own (she was already with Donald for every single one--he is the reason she was on those mags' covers) and like about her success as a businesswoman (her jewelry line was on TV and they stopped selling it long ago and it's only on eBay,and her skin care line is dead because it's a bad investment and yet she claims great success in both areas). She is a liar. And because she is, I have no sympathy for what was done to her last night.
ReplyDeleteLewendoski was right to ask for Manefort firing. Anything that comes out of a campaign must be reviewed before it is released to the public. This is applicable to any business too. This is project management 101.
DeleteTrump only hires the best people and he can't fire them and admit he made a mistake.
DeleteUnless his caretakers call a meeting. They must see he is getting a little off in the head now, like memory and senile issues.
Trump just lost Big, his talking point about "lying Hillary". Now we can say with proof (35 million witnesses, if you believe the number who saw this on TV last night) that Trump in not trustworthy. Who ya' gonna' believe? Trump or Hillary is more trustworthy? My vote is with Hillary any day.
DeleteWe've been rickrolled folks! No question now that the Trump campaign has been infiltrated. First it was the TP logo and now Melania's speech. I am getting nothing done at the office this week.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KtzdP7mR-4
Sheesh
Me, neither. I start to work and then just take a QUICK PEEK at the latest on Melania, and next thing I know it's afternoon already.

DeleteIt's not cribbing, it's called plagiarism.
ReplyDeleteYes, and there is no similarities betweem manafort and frankenstein.
DeleteSure they are common words, but it's the way those common words are arranged that make it plagiarism!
ReplyDeleteExactly. Thoughts cannot be copyrighted, but the expression of those thoughts certainly can be.

12:14 am 19-JULY 2012<POTUS
Deletetoo funny-NOT!
It's a hoax. President Obama didn't introduce Michelle in 2012 (July 2012 is the date of the alleged POTUS tweet), and the 2012 Dem Convention was held in September. http://www.npr.org/2012/09/04/160578836/transcript-michelle-obamas-convention-speech
DeleteNor did President Obama, then Senator, introduce Michelle in 2008. The candidate does not appear until he/she accepts the nomination. Obviously, Trump doesn't understand the traditional protocol.
DeleteBeaglemom
It's the denial of the Trump Campaign that is so much fun. It's Hillary's fault. I'm surprised that they didn't blame Michelle Obama for emailing a copy of her speech to Melania, saying, "Here, you can use this."
ReplyDeleteRight, just like it's Hillary's curse that she voted to go to Iraq, but the same vote was but a youthful indiscretion when it comes to Mikey Pence.
DeleteWhy not admit to it, apologize and move on. No. Trump has to pick his own sores until he's scarred.
DeleteThe other big lie about Melania's speech is that she wrote it mostly by herself. Her language skills are not that good; the difference between the text of the speech and her answers to questions in interviews tells the story.
ReplyDeleteIt's ironic, given how the GOP and especially Donald Trump, despises the Obamas, that last night's speech was lifted so much from Michelle Obama's speech of 2008. The Obamas are good enough to steal from but . . . .
O/T I've been watching the documentary about the White House that was on PBS about a week ago and I shudder at the thought of Trump or any members of his family ever crossing that threshold.
Beaglemom
She told Matt Lauer she wrote it this morning.
DeleteKind of like Sarah Palin got a degree or had certain kids. It's all spin.
DeleteAnon 9:35
DeleteActually that was an interview from yesterday before the speech. The conundrum now is that Melania is either lying about writing the speech or she is a plagiarist. Either way they spin it she and they look stupid.
Sheesh
In your opinion Gryphen, what are the chances this man will be President? Some days I honestly worry....
ReplyDeleteALL THIS<<My thoughts exactly, we can only continue to fight....Richard Clarke and the world watch this insanity, NO dRumpf has a TINY dick.

All the political Republicans are trying to save Trump and his wife and just blatantly lie!
ReplyDeleteAmazing to watch them when the media (MSNBC) has put up Mrs. Obama's 2008 speech along side the one done by Mrs. Trump yesterday.
It IS plagiarism - no doubt it! They must think the majority of Americans are idiots!
Trump does not deserve being POTUS. He brings nothing to the table other than fear, hate, racism, lies and the want of more wars!
Fuck him and the Republicans on the national, state and local arenas. They have proved themselves to be nothing more than scum upon our country!
If we're lucky Paul Manafort will crash from a heart attack before the week is done. He looks like a cadaver already.
ReplyDeleteThat's what Russians do to journalists via poison.
DeleteThat's why trump loves the Russians.
I totally believe that Trump wrote the speech. He would never let anyone else to put words into her mouth. She's HIS! And also, who else would be SOSOSO stupid? Certainly not anyone who's had any speech-writing experience, never mind training or education. Everyone, please read the New Yorker article about what his ghostwriter says about him, including that he has "no attention span" and that "lying is second nature to him."
ReplyDeleteI agree. He lies and puts in squarely in your face.
DeleteI am surprised he has any worth to his creditors. He is definitely high risk.
Nope...had to be an infiltrator. This was purposeful; just enough plagiarism to be caught and a rickroll in the middle.
DeleteSheesh
THIS^ and This below on Twitter. dRumpf wants OUT. He has done everything to get dRumpfed on. Yet he is somehow 'god-less like' to himself.
DeleteCalled>agreeancethoritarianism
10:03 I don't think he will after this. Rational, sane people see what an absolute joke this guy is. His word salad is just as confusing as Palin's
DeleteHow did infiltrator get past final approval? Manafort and Trump?
DeleteEven Trump's Twitter response was almost exactly the same as Obama's response back in 2008. Blaming Hillary? Don't these clowns ever own up to anything? In a side by side comparison of both speeches, you can see the plagiarism.
ReplyDeleteMelania said that it took her 5 weeks to write it, "with very little help". Yeah, sure.
I'm thinking that Donald is going to do with Melania, what McCain did to Palin, limit exposure, and gag her so the stupidity doesn't fall out anymore.
Just like Paylin, she lies about having a degree.
ReplyDeleteAnd like Paylin, once she latched onto a wealthy famous guy, she grabbed hold for fame, money, and a free lunch.
Worked so hard when she came here, just long enough to snag a fat, narcissistic, bloated, immoral human TICK name DrumpF
I wonder if this was sabatoge by some Hillary supporter, rather than stupidity or sloppiness. Who helped her write the speech?
ReplyDeleteLucy
Lucy in the sky? Are you lost again?
DeleteNo Hillary supporter, but likely a staffer who got pissed on one too many times.
DeleteClearly sabotage but it could be any number of sources. A disgruntled Trump staffer, a dem plant, someone who simply finds the challenge invigorating. Could be a group or could be a lone wolf. Hey, maybe it's Corey Lewandowski's revenge! Regardless, there is no question that the Trump campaign has been infiltrated so expect more surprises since the campaign appears to be impotent. Again, I refer to the disastrous TP logo which was quickly replaced the next day.
DeleteSheesh
How would a Hillary plant get past Manaffuc_?
DeleteDemocrats don't have to sabotage Trump when he does it ad infinitum. He needs a medical checkup.
DeleteWhy clearly sabotage?
DeleteMaybe it was just some lazy Trump staffer who cheated his or her own way through college. Or maybe it was actually Mrs. Trump who doesn't have much to say so she copied from Mrs. Obama's 2008 speech. Or maybe it was one of Trump's sons who, after all, are Trump's sons.
Those scenarios are just as likely as some kind of sabotage.
How Trump and his top aids are handling this now is more vital than who to blame for the most humiliating embarrassing speech of the campaign.
DeleteTrump did not need to expand on the bad choices. He could have come out right away correcting and going forward.
His choice is to make a big blow up.
He is allow Melania to be mocked and more scrutiny for her. Before this many were fine with giving her a pass as she is new to this game. Now she will be remembered for all history for this speech mess. It doesn't matter that Manafort was the one to inspect it and make sure it was honest and no chance of inappropriate in any way.
Does Trump trust this Manfort? Trump, business man should have been in on the speech with Melania and had their work verified by people that do political speech writing for a living.
This was one of the biggest moments for Donald Trump. His family should make him human. He looks like a failed business venture.
He knows show business and the media well. Why he insists on making bad calls indicates failing mental health.
Not good for a charlatan, con to lose their mind. I doubt Ivanka team can help him now.
Yikes. I wasn't clear. I don't mean that Hillary put her up to it. I mean some quiet, devious, person who is afraid of Trump becoming President.
DeleteYou're right. It might not have been sabotage. I absolutely don't believe Hillary, or anyone in her campaign, sent someone to do it. too risky. and I don't think she's unethical.
DeleteIt might have been some lazy Trump staffer. But it reminds me of the SP queston. What's more likely, the Wild Ride, or a Birth Hoax. What's more likely? A campaign person used Michelle's words and didn't realize it, and thought htey could get away with it? or sabotage? I don't know. I'm not sure it was sabotage. I'm not sure it wasn't.

Well, once people saw the God-Awful dress she had on, what was there to watch? Oh wait-she didn't mention that few years of her life.

DeleteTrump’s RNC Claims Melania Plagiarized Speech From My Little Pony Not Michelle Obama
ReplyDeleteRepublicans have come up with a new excuse for Malina Trump's convention speech plagiarism. According to the RNC, Mrs. Trump may have lifted phrases from My Little Pony, not First Lady Michelle Obama.

It's not so much WHO she stole from [although her choice was quite delicious], but the FACT of theft itself. You can't just take other people's words or ideas and claim them as your own.
DeleteI think the WHO makes all the difference. Her job was to humanize Donald Trump, and hit all the Mom & apple pie & conservative family values. If she needed to "borrow" some words, as a non-Native speaker she might be forgiven for that. But the best words she could find were from our current FLOTUS. A black FLOTUS no less. Which basically tells us that Drumpf's own wife, as well as the person who wrote the speech, admires Michelle's values enough to steal her words. Kind of embarrassing, that.

Trump Pummeled In Press For Melania’s Plagiarism Of Michelle Obama’s Speech
ReplyDeleteAfter it was revealed that Melania Trump’s speech lifted whole parts from First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech, the New York Daily News blasted the Trump campaign with a picture of a triumphant looking Donald Trump pointing at his wife, with the caption, “Thanks Mrs. Obama!”
For Trump, who has been demonizing Obama for his entire run, this is a debacle.
http://www.politicususa.com/2016/07/19/york-daily-news-michelle-obama-melanias-speech.html
Damn, but it's fun seeing Don the Con caught again, but this time via his wife's words. They are both frauds!
DeleteIf these people can't even take ownership of this plagiarism incident. WTF is going to happen if they reach the White House?
ReplyDeleteWhat? You expect anyone who puts an (R) after their name to actually accept responsibility for anything they do or say? Now that would be a change.
DeleteThe problem is Mrs Trump said she "wrote the speech" and "had very little help". So if they take responsibility for the plagiarism, she's a liar. It's a win-win! Her parents taught her the value of hard work, her husband taught her how to lie and steal.
DeleteRepublicans don't take responsibility for their despicable nature. They just project it on the left. They deny their own nature. Just look at the miserable group of idiots over at the pee pond and elsewhere.
DeleteWith all of the excitement at the Repub convention you would think Sarah P would have SOMETHING to comment on. Strange - nothing. ReplyDelete...Here's the thing: Plagiarism means borrowing words that aren't yours. It doesn't matter whether that's 1 percent of the words or 99 percent of the words. Unless you say "And, in the words of ___________," you can't use someone else's words. It's that simple.

On Melania Trump’s plagiarism, a laid-off journalist watching in an L.A. Starbucks scooped everyone
Shortly after Melania Trump finished her address Monday night to the Republican National Convention, CNN's Anderson Cooper turned to analyst David Axelrod, a former adviser to President Obama, and noted a similarity between Trump's speech and the one Michelle Obama delivered to the Democratic convention in 2008 — the prime-time slot on opening night.
"Just the same spot in 2008," Axelrod reiterated.
He went on to recall a few details about Obama's remarks: "She could speak about [Barack Obama] in a way and with an intimacy that no one else could, and she did it, I have to say — I'm biased in this regard — but I think that she did it very, very movingly because she did use more personal stories about him and his story. ... And, you know, Michelle Obama — she had her speech written also four, five weeks in advance, and she practiced, and she practiced, and she practiced."

Oh the spin is stunning.
DeleteHowever, this is the presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump, and admitting error is something that he never, ever does.
Because of this, both the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee have gone to ridiculous lengths to defend Melania’s honor and to deny that her speech plagiarized anything. Below we’ll go through some of the most ridiculous ways Republicans have humiliated themselves while managing to keep the plagiarism story in the headlines.
Let’s start with RNC chief strategist Sean Spicer, who pointed out that there were also similarities between Melania’s speech and a quote from My Little Pony character Twilight Sparkle.
Watch this humiliating example of utter self-debasement below:

Trump Campaign Struggles to Manage Melania Trump Speech Fallout
ReplyDeleteThe Trump campaign, already on shaky ground headed into this week's convention, struggled to find a response Tuesday to charges that Melania Trump's prime-time speech lifted passages from Michelle Obama's 2008 convention speech.
The side-by-side video of the two speeches, replayed endlessly on cable news, is jarring. A potential first lady describing her family's values ("you work hard for what you want in life," "your word is your bond," "you treat people with respect") in near-identical terms to a first lady whose own husband's integrity, faith, and patriotism Donald Trump regularly throws into question.
... The mistake is poised to cause turmoil within the campaign as well. Campaign sources described Mrs. Trump's speech as the most sensitive of the convention because of her extreme discomfort with the political spotlight -- she rarely gives interviews or appears at rallies and did not attend last week's event introducing Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as her husband's running mate.
Mr. Trump, who praised her "absolutely incredible" speech on Twitter last night, is unlikely to tolerate an error that cuts so close to his relationship with his wife.
"It's piss-poor staff work," a source within the campaign told NBC News. "Melania has been humiliated. No doubt heads are going to roll."

Be aware that Melania has been absent from a lot of the public affairs lately. She was not at Pence's intro but all the rest of the family was on stage except her and son Baron. Comments were that she couldn't be at many because she is busy raising her son. What's up? or not?
ReplyDeleteMaybe she was at work check these photos -

I noted her absence of several weeks. It was odd for her to suddenly disappear. Then I heard that she didn't make Pence's rollout b/c she was in NJ practicing her speech at another Trump club (funny, but to Matt Lauer she said she'd only read through the speech once). That made no sense. Today, I can't recall on which network, it was said that she skipped the Pence rollout b/c she didn't like how his kids were pressuring Trump to pick Pence.
DeleteIt's been said that she didn't like how the VP candidate was rolled out - that pressure was applied to her husband to name him....
DeleteRemember too folks - she never wanted Trump to run for POTUS. I'll bet this is going to be very difficult and hard on their marriage!
Thank god he'll never be elected - then she won't have to worry about a damn thing. Plus, I don't think she'd make a good First Lady!

ReplyDeleteDamn moose and squirrel!
DeleteLike others have said, she had nothing personal to say about Trump. Lots of praising general abstractions, but nothing tangible. After her speech I pointed to some positives to my husband but said I couldn't believe there was nothing anecdotal and personal. Eugene Robinson said that when he gave his first feedback, and others said the same thing. Melania was praised for looking good up there and getting through the speech and sounding like she believed it. But she was a closed door in terms of anything revelatory. And that is how Trump is. He speaks in generalities and doesn't truly open up (for all his constant blathering). To me, they are both such cold people when you look beyond what is first in front of you. Melania is a liar. It's all over her website. She had no idea last night that she hadn't said anything that was new and would make people see Trump in a new light. She and he were both proud of the speech. They had no ability to see what it was missing.

The lack of intimacy revealed in the rest of the speech seems at least as important as the plagarism. If Donald Trump didn't write Melania's speech himself, he provided the outline for it and a specific list of qualities he wanted her to affirm.

DeleteThe Trump Campaign Failed Melania — and Not Just Because of the Plagiarism
ReplyDelete...This is a bad — really, really bad — error. It’s the appropriation of a historic speech, made eight years ago by the first African-American First Lady of the United States, by the white woman who wants to succeed her in the White House. Who knows why it happened. Maybe, as Melania claims, she wrote the speech largely on her own; she could have used Michelle’s excellent speech as a model, hewing way too close to it. More likely is that Trump’s staff or speechwriters wrote it, used Michelle’s speech as a model and hewed way too close to it. Either way, it was political malpractice to let this woman go on national television and deliver these stolen words.
But even without the plagiarism, Melania’s speech was bad.

ReplyDeleteAs a chorus of prominent Fox News women have gone public defending Roger Ailes against the wave of sexual-harassment allegations sparked by former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson’s lawsuit, the network’s biggest star, Megyn Kelly, has been conspicuously silent. Kelly’s refusal to join in Ailes’s orchestrated defense has led to speculation about why.
Now we have the answer. According to two sources briefed on parent company 21st Century Fox’s outside probe of the Fox News executive, led by New York–based law firm Paul, Weiss, Kelly has told investigators that Ailes made unwanted sexual advances toward her about ten years ago when she was a young correspondent at Fox. Kelly, according to the sources, has described her harassment by Ailes in detail.

Not only is part of that speech plagiarized, but it's from a Democratic presidential candidate's wife. Why didn't the speechwriter delve into Laura Bush's convention speech, if indeed she did speak?

DeleteRNC Spokesman Hilariously Ridiculed After Invoking ‘My Little Pony’ Defense Of Melania (SCREENSHOTS/VIDEO)
ReplyDeleteAfter Melania Trump blatantly plagiarized part of Michelle Obama’s 2008 Democratic convention speech, the GOP leaped into action, offering every ridiculous excuse they could muster to defend the prospective next First Lady — including the Trump campaign’s official hamburger delivery boy Chris Christie’s “well-she-didn’t-plagiarize-all-of-it-so-it-wasn’t-plagiarism” defense.
But the most insane thing to come out of this scenario is perhaps Republican National Committee communications director Sean Spicer’s “My Little Pony” defense.
Naturally, the internet had a lot of fun with this:
http://addictinginfo.org/2016/07/19/rnc-spokesman-hilariously-ridiculed-after-invoking-my-little-pony-defense-of-melania-screenshotsvideo/
And the hypocrisy was too much for Joy Reid to stand by and say nothing. Reid pointed out that if Michelle Obama’s speech had been plagiarized she would not have been given a pass.
ReplyDelete“I’ll start by quoting a guy called Tom Nichols, who’s a conservative and very prominent on Twitter, who said, ‘Ask yourself if Michelle Obama would have been given a pass had she done the same thing in 2008?’ I think we’re all very quickly passing the responsibility onto staff. Clearly, this is a campaign that is poorly staffed. I think that has been clear for a long time. But they sent Melania Trump over to Matt Lauer to say that she wrote it [the speech]. But we’re immediately dismissing the idea that she had anything to do with it. I doubt that we would dismiss the idea that Michelle Obama had anything to do with it.
She’s an adult woman. She’s grown up. She has participated in the delivery of this speech. She gave the speech. So I think you have to give responsibility — sure, to the staff, the campaign management has been poor here — but Melania Trump did give the speech and Michelle Obama wouldn’t have gotten a pass.”
Here’s the video via VidMe.
Indeed, conservatives would have howled in rage had Michelle Obama plagiarized her speech. They would have said that it proved she is unqualified to be First Lady and they would not have tolerated any excuse. Let’s face it, the difference here is that Melania Trump is the wife of the Republican nominee and her skin is white and that somehow makes it okay that she plagiarized her speech. Once again, conservatives demonstrate clearly that they are hypocrites who don’t have original thoughts.

Trump surrogates parroting “common words and phrases” as a defense must think the American public is truly moronic—yes, the speech included nearly 60 of the same words, arranged exactly the same way. That’s plagiarism—also known as theft. It’s a direct insult to the American public that the Trump campaign is so sloppy and has such shoddy work ethic that they put so little effort into preparing a woman who might be First Lady of our country for the most major public speech she would ever deliver.
