Sarah Palin finds yet another opportunity to play the victim while falsely claiming she was right about "death panels."

So that tweet shows up on Twitter and of course is brought to the attention of the Wasilla Wendigo, who quickly takes to Facebook to post a kind of victory lap/pity party:

After I spoke of Obamacare's Death Panels, the President deceived the nation in his State of the Union address, claiming I was the liar. (Actually just about everybody concluded you were a liar.)

Barack (That's "Mr. President" to you lady): tell that to patients now being refused health care.

The backlash from the President's continued attacks on my integrity remains immense (The President rarely spoke about you Sarah, the backlash came in response to your own stupidity.), but it's nothing compared to the tragic hopelessness that formerly disillusioned Americans now feel. Ironically, Obama and Congress could have proved me wrong. (Oh they did.) Granted, the President and media's obstinate clinging to the failed Obamacare boondoggle was a given, but an incalculable disappointment in this is knowing Congress held the purse strings for this disastrous government healthcare takeover, yet funded it anyway.

Media: why no accountability on this? Why ignore Hillary's role in supporting Obamacare?

 - Sarah Palin

What Palin is referencing here is the story of a  terminally ill California woman whose insurance company refuses to pay for a different chemotherapy drug that "might" buy her some more time.

Instead, due to California's new End of Life Option Act, this woman learned that a drug that would let her die with dignity at a time of her choosing WAS covered by her health insurance.

The woman, a Roman Catholic, was of course horrified, and this has become the cause celebre among the Right to Lifers.

So what does this have to do with Sarah Palin's famous "death panels?" Not a damn thing.

What Palin was talking about back in 2009 was this:

"As more Americans delve into the disturbing details of the nationalized health care plan that the current administration is rushing through Congress, our collective jaw is dropping, and we're saying not just no, but hell no!" Palin wrote.

"The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's ‘death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil."

Essentially what Palin was saying was that "death panels" would portion out health care to those deemed worthy, and that others would be left to die on their own.

THAT was the lie that she was called out for, and it has NOTHING to do with this California woman's case.

NOR does it have anything to do really with Obamacare.

Insurance companies have always made choices over which medicines and treatments they are willing to pay for, and that is typically based on it's positive impact and yes its cost.

And Obamacare has actually fixed some of that by forcing insurance companies to provide insurance for many who would not have qualified for it in the past, and by not allowing them to kick clients off of their insurance once they became ill.

In fact the argument could be made that without Obamacare this woman would likely have lost her insurance already.

The medicine that this woman's insurance company is balking at "might" extend her life, but then again it might not.

So the insurance company on their own, with no "Death panels" involved, has decided that it is not worth the extra cost to spend the money on a drug that might have no effect whatsoever.

Remember this woman's cancer is terminal, there is no cure, only the possibility of a few more years or months.

It may seem harsh, and if it were your loved one you would almost certainly feel that it was, but it has nothing to do with Obamacare, "death panels," and certainly nothing to do with Sarah "Look at me, look at me, look at me now" Palin.

I don't blame Obama's plan, I blame the insurance companies almost inhuman efforts to make more money even at the expense of it's clients.

Sad that health insurance companies have too much say in our care, more than actual physicians.

I have a chronic-but-very-treatable medical condition. My health insurance (which is NOT Obamacare)refuses to pay for two of my prescriptions. The ones they will cover cost $10 and $15 less a month...and don't work. So my options are to pay out-of-pocket for medication I know works because I've been taking it 20 years, or get medication that does absolutely nothing for me.

There is one online with the words Good and rx. Ask at pharmacies. I have had to go in person. Maybe you have done this research. I am only mentioning this because it can be done and there truly are savings.

This doesn't even have anything to do with the greed of capitalistic insurance compaies, it has to do with paying for treatment not approved yet by the FDA. Paying for unapproved healthcare treatments , in the end, may endanger more people than it helps.

This is 4:31 pm; just pointing out that insurance companies have always had "death panels" where they deny care to people--not just "untested" or "exploratory" care, but actual, proven-to-work medications. One of the ones I've been taking has been around for 50 years and is very well-studied with minimal side-effects, but it's $15 more expensive a month than the alternate that simply does not work for most people.

7:02 you don't know wha tthe fuck you are talking about. All cancer drugs initially go thru trials until they become standard therapy. The trials need to be approved by IRBs in hospitals. There is alot of SCIENCE behind the whole process.
Puhleese. No current proven therapy excaped an early trial phase, except those from the 5060s when they did not have the trial phase because we had a limited arsenal of drugs.
Insurance companies need to get on board and stop this shit. They know it - they just don't want to pay for it.

Palin has a legacy State of Alaska lifetime health insurance policy for her and Todd via her stint as Governor. Why do you think they stay together?

Via the new ACA regulations her kids as well were able to stay on her policy until age 26, which means that the Stool was able to give birth too all of her bastards, including the latest, under her mother's policy. Nice huh? Even though our AK economy is in the toilet there's still money to pay for the failed Governor and her family to suck off the public teat.

We Obamacare subscribers here in AK will now be members of the "one in five" Americans that only have access to one insurance carrier if participating in the ACA.

It's not ideal but MODA was priced out of the market due to so many newly subsidized participants seeking medical treatment after having been without insurance for most of their lives.

My parter and I aren't participating this year as our penalties are 5% the cost of actually purchasing a Premara Blue Cross policy with highest deductible and lowest premium.

By no means are we alone up here in no longer participating; estimates are 30% of ACA participants in Alaska will no longer take part and will pay the IRS penalty instead.

Hopefully this system can be streamlined and improved during the next administration.

When your options are nearly $15 grand in premiums for two individual policies both with 15,000 deductibles then 700 each for the tax penalty seems like a better deal.

The more people like us are forced to drop out the less likely it is that the system will work.

I see the ACA dissolving and the current people that enjoy the highest subsidies will be soon rolled into the Medicare program, and that really is what should happen, then the "affordable care" for those of us that don't qualify for the full-ride subsidy can perhaps be revisited or we just go back to the old ways where those of us, especially those of us self-employed folks, without employer provided insurance go without.

It makes little difference when the deductible is $15 grand, in the end, most medical is then paid out of pocket anyway.

Although my heath insurance under Obamacare is going up 50% next year along with an increase in the deductible, I still don’t blame Obamacare.

I place all the blame on the greedy insurance companies.

This year I took a gamble, since I have never been ill and went with a lower premium and higher deductible, just my luck I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. Thus far between premiums and paying for everything out of pocket I have paid out around $10,000, yet I still blame the insurance company !!!!!!

As far as what Sarah Palin has to say about death panels, just wait until someone in her family has to make the decision: life support for a brain dead person or pull the plug, then come crying about death panels. Ignoramus.

President Obama did get the greedy insurers to cover pre-existing conditions ~ and that was fantastic. Now, ACA needs freed from it's Republican (paid) shackles and go full-blown single-payer ~ administered like Medicaid.

We would all pay modest premiums and the profit would be removed; actuary charts would be used to reduce our premiums instead of maximizing a corporation's profit.

I think Sarah Palin needs one of these:

    https://m.hrc.onl/secretary/05-feed/05-Oct/Tin-Foil-Hat/Tin-foil-Trump-Poster.png

"The instructions list several other bogus conspiracies championed by Trump ― that Clinton and Obama founded ISIS, that Sen. Ted Cruz’s father played a role in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and that thousands in New Jersey celebrated the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

“In fact, if we elected Donald Trump,” the cutout reads, “we could have a president dedicated to the truth: where is Elvis? Where did we film the moon landing?”

The new caps, the Clinton campaign added, will ensure Trump can “continue his quest for knowledge without any ... intrusion.”

The tin-foil hat that has come to symbolize paranoia and belief in conspiracy theories originated in a 1927 science-fiction novel that suggested foil would block mind control, according to a 2013 article in Business Insider. It doesn’t work, a 2005 MIT study found."

In my area the problem was/is the provider attitude. I personally would like taxpayers to own their own healthcare medicare/system, pharma, research, treatment, and remove the insurance for profit. Insurance was not even offered or necessary until 60's. In those days the doctor charged reasonable amount and you paid cash. There was no insurance. Time to simplify this and take profits out. No healthcare for profit, No prisons for profit, No schools for profit, No utilities for profit. The Basics are not for profit. Make yer money another way.

The year prior to the Affordable Care Act my children's father was denied a chemotherapy protocol after his inoperable tumor continued to grow despite radiation and other chemo protocols the insurance paid for. He had a tentacle like tumor in the control center (pons) of the brain stem. It is always a fatal prognosis. When declined he already lost speech, sight and the cancer metastasized to the spinal cord. He had a death sentence by cancer. When his death neared, obvious from medical records the insurance denied coverage of another clinical trial. Fuck your nonsense Sarah Palin.

When a human gets chemo when near their end of life they are completely paralyzed , blind, speechless, in severe pain it may be humane to not inject them with chemo. This case had nothing to do with "deserving" or deemed worthy but the reality of being at the threshold of death from disease.

Before the pre existing clause my friend was denied coverage for anything related to diabetes for one year. About 1yr and 1 month he had a heart attack and it ended up costing the insurance 10x the cost instead of just providing the preventative diabetic care for the year denied due to the pre existing condition. This consumer protection alone saved millions of lives and made the affordable aka "Obama care" worthy for cost for everyone. Keep it and improve it.

The article in the New York Post does not give us enough medical information so we can have an informed opinion of the story. It is written for the purpose of playing on our heartstrings.

The woman may have other options. She can ask to be included in a trial for an experimental drug or treatment. She can always consult other people in the field. There reaches a point where her insurance company weighs the amount money it would cost to add a few years to her and decide that the money could be spent in the interest of other patients with more successful results. We don't know the cost of her medication, but she could try one of those Go Fund Me programs in order to pay for the treatment. And maybe, just maybe, the drug or another treatment is available in another country at a lower cost. The story was written with only one option available when she has more choices.

Never mind that at his age, and in his poor physical condition, an operation would be risky. Anesthesia would be another problem for him. Obamacare has nothing to do with death panels. It is not in the law anywhere! Insurance companies make their decisions, the ones you support you know, the ones that pay their CEO's millions of dollars, but turn down someone that is dying because of the cost of a life saving drug? Mine turned me down 5 times and I was dying. I had to appeal to the drug company, who gave it to me for free because my damned insurance did not want to pay for it. Those are your death panels. But, of course, you cannot be bothered to check those pesky little things called facts!

  50. My sister is a registered nurse who's worked just about every specialty there is. Her current job is in an infusion/cancer care clinic where she alternately is a staff nurse taking care of patients, and alternately handles the paperwork involved with getting approval from the insurance companies for the insanely expensive cancer oral chemotherapy drugs - the newest form of cancer treatment, supplementing IV chemo and radiation treatment.

The county I live in has a LOT of elderly residents, because it's a mild-climate, relatively inexpensive beautiful place to spend one's retirement. Therefore there are a greater-than-normal number of cancer patients. The population makes it one of the worst places to get insurance coverage. The insurance companies know they have the insureds and the caregivers over a barrel. They make it as tough as possible on the caregivers to get them to part with coverage funds for treatment.

Location should in no way affect insurance premiums. Medical need and available of the requisite care should be the primary issues that determine what care a person receives. But insurance and big pharmaceutical companies s are "for profit" so the people who benefit the most are the executives and shareholders. This is why this country needs single-payor insurance. It's taking us forever to get there. Hopefully a President Clinton can make strides in steering us in that ever-elusive direction.

Back in the 1980's when HMO's were up and coming, the newly-minted MBA's in Californian insurance world were considering no longer covering cataract surgery for Medicare and Medicaid patients, having decided that it was elective rather than necessary surgery. Just imagine the number of blind people there would have been 10 years later if that irresponsible opinion had been allowed to prevail. I had my cataract surgery in my early 50's (over 20 years ago); not everyone is at death's door when cataract surgery is needed.

I wonder if the people who made the insurer decision in this woman's case sleep well at night. They should at least worry a little about themselves and their family members when the grim reaper (in business duds) is circling around their homes.

Any patient who's facing an incurable illness that will kill them needs a doctor who will give them the facts on end of life decisions, and not some soft soap. To treat death as an unmentionable, is as stupid as "storks bring babies" cuz you're too hung-up to discuss sex. A terminal patient needs to get their affairs in order and have those awkward, long avoided conversations with family and friends before it's too late.

Remember folks, politicians are in the pockets of big medicine. On both sides too. Big medicine, like big oil, and big gun tell our politicians when to squat and shit. Palin knows this. She was one of them. The Affordable Care Act was a way to make healthcare work for us but with politicians spinning their lies it is hard to do good work. Big medicine is not going to let it go. They want to be able to charge you seven hundred dollars for an epipen without you being able to do a damn thing about it. We all know this. We all know who is behind the laws. Obama wasn't the one to think up the Affordable Care Act. He worked hard to make it reality but somehow Republicans fight it. Because they are in the big medicine pockets of coarse. We know this. So stop, Palin with the name calling. You know this. You worked in government and know that big business is at work here in Amercia. All in the name of the bottomline. Obama tried to get around that. He tried in face of hard capitalism to make things work for the people. He knew it was fruitless but I give him credit for going against the grain and trying. Sarah, you by throwing around words like death panels, and gun rights, just help big business. The happy thing I personally perceive in all of this, is yes, we are all going to die. Trump, Palin, Me and you. We got it coming. That is the great equalizer. Now make it good and say and do something good on this earth instead of trying to be vindicated for stupid shit you spouted in one of your' many tirades. (Speaking, now, to Palin, and Trump.)

First, and above all, Sarah knows shit of what she speaks, she read a tweet and injected herself into a rabbit hole. I don't care what you're afflicted with, your health is YOUR responsibility. Ask questions, ask more until you're satisfied you can make an informed decision. Insurance Companies don't care about you one iota, they're after your money. I survived stage four breast cancer eight years ago, and again four months ago (I got a clean bill of health, fingers crossed) and medicine has advanced beyond what I expected. The first operation was hell, w/chemo, radiation and clinical trials, a separate reconstruction surgery wasn't covered because it was considered "cosmetic". This time, thanks to Angelian Jolie and other women who spoke up, I had everything done in one operation, and everything was covered under ACA. Everything except tv and the phone. They're using genes to tailor your treatment to your body/type of cancer. Our girls got tested, which isn't covered, but worth the piece of mind.
Ladies and Gentlemen, get yourselves checked and act as quickly as possible.
