The television series Trackdown really did produce an episode featuring a "Trump" character who came to town claiming that only he could prevent the end of the world by building a wall (and also sold special force propelling umbrellas to deflect meteorites). The episode (S1, E30) aired on CBS in 1958 and was titled "The End of the World," featuring actor Lawrence Dobkin playing the role of "Walter Trump." A synopsis of the episode from the Classic TV Archive reads as follows:
Walter Trump, a confidence man, puts on a long robe and holds a tent meeting in the town of Talpa. He tells the townspeople that a cosmic explosion will rain fire on the town and that he is the only one that can save them from death. Ranger Hoby Gilman attempts to prove Trump is a fraud.
Every time I think this whole thing cannot get any more surreal, well you know the rest.
I am beginning to think that Donald Trump is nothing but a fictional character himself cobbled together from bits and pieces of television series, comic strips, and science fiction novels.
(BTW did you notice that the TV character was sporting Trump's actual hairline?)
ReplyDeleteThis is similar to Ronnie Regan’s “Star War Initiative” (the movie had just come out?) where he was going to protect the USA by creating a dome to repeal incoming missiles.
They wasted millions of dollars and it faded into nothing.
Got that right!
DeleteGot that wrong. THAAD (Theater High-Altitude Area Defense) now deployed to South Korea and an irritant in Eastern Europe is a result. As is, I argue, the demise of the Soviet Union (a bad thing, in my book) where it was correctly seen as an offensive initiative elemental to a preemptive first-strike strategy which prompted their final debilitating military-spending spree.

ReplyDeleteTrump Is Making Journalism Great Again
.... If Trump’s idea of a news conference is to spank the press, if his lieutenants believe the press needs shutting down, if his chief of staff wants to speculate about moving the White House press scrum off the premises, perhaps reporters ought to take the hint and prepare to cover his administration on their own terms. Instead of relying exclusively on the traditional skills of political reporting, the carriers of press cards ought to start thinking of covering Trump’s Washington like a war zone, where conflict follows conflict, where the fog prevents the collection of reliable information directly from the combatants, where the assignment is a matter of life or death.....

The White House press conference by Sean Spicer will be a joke.
DeleteYou can't believe anything he says. So how would they report anything? They can't report it as truth or facts. They can say "The White House today said bla bla bla BUT this reporter found facts facts facts."
They do everyone a favor if they'd just stop going there and yes, start doing the hard ass work of reporting like their predecessors did.
Man, Walter Cronkite would spin in his grave at some of these lazy asswipes that call themselves journalists.
O/T Gosh why am I not surprised? Certainly not going to fire the guy that helped him win.

The incoming White House chief of staff said Sunday that President-elect Donald Trump does not plan to replace FBI Director James B. Comey despite increasingly public calls from Democrats that Mr. Comey should resign.
“There’s no plans in this moment of changing that,” Reince Priebus said Sunday in an interview on ABC’s “This Week.” “We’ve had a great relationship with him over the last several weeks and he’s extremely competent.”......

A great relationship and extremely competent. After all, he's the reason Mr. Trump won! Why should we get did of him? He deserves to be rewarded for his outstanding service to the party.
DeleteHEIL!
I saw on the local news this morning that his minions are saying, only four days until he puts his hand on The Bible! Leave him alone!"
ReplyDeleteLIKE DOUBLE HOCKEYS I will.
Well if there is a god who actually takes interest in human affairs, that bible will burst into flames and consume him on the spot.
DeleteWill the bible burst into flames?
DeleteNow they are grasping at straws.
ReplyDeleteDon’t we all wish that traitor trump do us a favor and go back to his “successful” business?
He can use Comey to compile the information on his “enemies” ala Edgar J. Hoover.

Sean Spicer lectures John Lewis on MLK Day: Questioning Trump’s election undermines civil rights
Incoming White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer used a Martin Luther King Jr. Day appearance on Fox News to lecture Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) on how to fight for civil rights.....
Spicer added that Trump would be willing to meet Lewis “to further the goal of uniting this country and moving forward.”
“But make no mistake,” he warned. “If someone is going to attack the president-elect, whether he’s going to attack him or this country or American workers, Donald Trump is leaving a successful business to fight for this country to fight for American workers. And he’s not going to sit back and let people take pot shots.”

"What would Martin Luther King, Jr. say about all of this today? How sad would he be that 63% of white men and 53% of white women voted for Donald J. Trump? He certainly would have understood their pain and anger -- but would he have forgiven that they lashed out at their injustice by voting for a racist? Or by staying home? Or by leaving the presidential part on the ballot blank? And what about the minority of white people who voted for Hillary -- what's our responsibility in all this, for letting White America install Trump as our leader? Could we have done more? Should white supporters of Hillary have had their eyes more open, stepped outside their "Hillary-is-going-to-win!" bubble, turned off the TV and the pundits and the pollsters and paid some real attention? Are white liberals still listening to these hacks? Were white Hillary supporters really that bad at math that they couldn't read an electoral map? Were the white people in Wisconsin really that uncool and so disgustingly working class to the hipsters at the Brooklyn HQ that they didn't deserve a visit from their candidate for seven long months? Are white liberals still in some sort of denial that this is actually happening? Black people aren't in denial. They've been living with this hate and racism and neglect forever and are not at all in shock over what's happened. That white women gave Trump the boost he needed to put him over the Electoral top is no surprise to them. White liberals believed that white women were going to save us from the angry white men who were and are the bulk of Trump's army. That didn't happen. What would Dr. King say about all of this? What could he tell us to soothe our hurt and allay our fears? Would he lead us in the fight one more time, or would he just hang his head today and simply weep. Just when the road seemed so much much shorter it suddenly got longer. And meaner. And almost unnavigable. He can't help us now. White people saw to that. The choice to fight is now left in our hands. And if you are white, don't we have an actual RESPONSIBILITY to undo this horrible wrong committed by our white neighbors, family members, co-workers and classmates? Shouldn't every single one of us be in the streets of DC this Friday and Saturday, nonviolently and forcefully resisting this moral crime White America has committed? Don't you want every African American, Muslim, Mexican, every LGBTQ American, every disabled person and every woman who's been grabbed and assaulted and humiliated by men like Trump to know that this wasn't YOU, that YOU won't be silent, that YOU will protect them and defend them and MAKE THIS RIGHT? Does not every single white person on this Martin Luther King Day have a shared DUTY to get up, stand up, march, resist, oppose, obstruct and make your voice heard so that no more harm comes to those who aren't born white and straight and Christian? This isn't a choice. This isn't something you get to think about. This is the only way to redeem ourselves, to answer the cry from Dr, King from his grave to not let all that he did and all that those good people who can before us did go to waste. Our silence right now will end his dream for good, and end the dreams of those who struggle day to day and week to week to simply survive. White America gave the world Donald J. Trump. But I f the 40%+ of white people who didn't vote for him are willing to join with the 90%+ of Black America and the majority of other people of color who also didn't vote for him, then that makes us the majority. Right now. We hold the true power. Stop reading this. Use it." Michael Moore

ReplyDeleteC'mon, Gryphen, be a pal. Leave some scraps for good ol' Beldar to riff on, will ya?
This video was probably inspired by Fred Trump, a known con man at the time. Donald was 12 years old at the time and I'll bet he watched it on TV.
