Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will delay the vote on the Republican leadership's health care bill until after the July 4 recess.
McConnell told GOP senators that he wants to make changes to the bill, get a new Congressional Budget Office score and have a vote after the holiday, two sources told CNN.
McConnell said that President Donald Trump had invited all Republican senators to the White House on Tuesday afternoon.
"We're going to continue discussion in our conference," McConnell told reporters on Capitol Hill after his meeting with his caucus.
The republicans are insisting that this does not mean the bill is dead, but can you imagine what these Senators will face back home during this break?
Most will likely hide in their houses or state offices at avoid the angry crowds gathered outside, and those that are brave enough to hold a town hall will spend the entire time pressed up against the wall attempting to inch toward the exit.
There is NO WAY they come back from that anxious to pass a health care bill.
Alaska's Lisa Murkowski is clearly a no vote on anything that the Republicans could come up with.
And even Mitch McConnell has signaled that it might be time to bring in the "A" Team.GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski: “People support greater access to health care. Planned Parenthood provides for that.” https://t.co/XLEolQj5AG— Bradd Jaffy (@BraddJaffy) June 27, 2017
You know, the Democrats:
Mitch McConnell is delivering an urgent warning to staffers, Republican senators and even the president himself:
If Obamacare repeal fails this week, the GOP will lose all leverage and be forced to work with Chuck Schumer.
Those ought to be some fun negotiations, especially since Elizabeth Warren has now stated categorically that it is time for Democrats to push for single payer.
As we have already reported Americans are supporting the idea of single payer now more than ever, which might give Democrats a little more leverage than in times past.Warren: The Next Step For Dems Is Single-Payer Health Care https://t.co/syfo9PhUNV via @TPM— Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) June 27, 2017
I think the most important thing that Democrats can do in the interim is to make the Republicans solely responsible for every problem that crops up in health care until new legislation gets passed, and that includes higher rates, loss of coverage, and fewer available options.
If I were a Democratic Senator or Congressperson I would have a bumper sticker on my car that read "We can permanently fix health care in America, ask us how."
Lisa wearing lipstick pink.... that's no accident but what does it mean?
ReplyDeleteShe clearly doesn't want her name on this travesty. She's not young any more, perhaps this is her last term and she needs to be able to face Alaskans in the supermarket.
Or the truth could be she's hoping that McConnell's next version can be passed without her vote- maybe he and she have already made that deal. It's no secret that Lisa Murkowski has no principles.
Here in NJ there are doing a secret deal and going for a vote so Christie will be in charge of our largest health insurer (making sure rates skyrocket and that it eventually drops 3.5 million from health insurance) - so regardless of what happens in D.C. we are totally screwed here in NJ.
ReplyDeleteAll the repugs have to do is make the bill even meaner and they will have their 50 votes - most of the 8 hold outs want more cuts and more death
Paul Ryan says the bill does not take away insurance from 22 million people ... it gives 22 million people "Freedom". Yes, freedom to die young since they don't get to see a doctor.
ReplyDeleteRepublicans eye billions in side deals to win Obamacare repeal votes
ReplyDeleteThe White House and Senate GOP leaders have nearly $200 billion in savings to divvy up among senators’ priorities to secure votes for the imperiled bill.

BWAHAHAHAHA! Running out of funds, is she? Nothing but nothing will ever save her reputation. She should know that by now.
DeleteI'm shocked as to Lisa Murkowski today...she verbally came out correctly on the two issues! (insurance and Planned Parenthood) But, have to say that I'll closely watch how she actually casts her vote when McConnell calls for it!
ReplyDeleteI've seen her say one thing and then vote completely the opposite throughout her career.
I've never voted for her and I've been voting in Alaska for years.
The Republicans are in trouble and it's a delight to watch. That McConnell guy and Paul Ryan have always been a thorn in my side.
Al Franken and the Washington Post come right out and call the health non-care bill "cruel."
ReplyDeleteOther outlets are picking up on it. Good for them.
Hillary Clinton called the Republicans "The Death Party" over their TrumpDoesn'tCare bill.

I did not vote for Lisa, but I must admit that I am becoming more of a Lisa fan. Will I vote for her again? It all depends what happens in the future. We have some very good upcoming people running for office, the democrats put her into office, so she needs to step carefully. Sure wouldn't want her job.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know who some of the "very good upcoming people running for office" are here in Alaska...I've yet to encounter one that wants Lisa's job; the only person that wants Lisa's job is Joe Miller, that's why we have to keep voting for her even when we don't want to.

Toronto Hotel Is Scrapping the Trump Name
TORONTO — President Trump’s brand will no longer tower over Toronto.
Under a deal announced Tuesday, the new owner of the 65-story Trump International Hotel and Tower, which fell into receivership last year and became the scene of occasional anti-Trump protests, will erase the president’s name from the building....
The tower was built by the Toronto investor Alex Shnaider, who was born in Russia and made his fortune through steel mills in the former Soviet Union...

Trump can’t appeal court decision he misled Toronto investors
Sarbjit Singh and Se Na Lee says they were misled to believe units in the Toronto hotel would result in returns ranging from 7.74 per cent to 20.90 per cent.
OTTAWA — Canada’s highest court is upholding a lower-court ruling in favour of investors who launched a lawsuit alleging they were misled by U.S. President Donald Trump and a real estate development firm.
The Supreme Court of Canada said it will not hear a leave to appeal by the defendants in the legal saga — which include the U.S. president, developer Talon International and its former executives. No reasons were given by the court for the dismissal.
The plaintiffs — Sarbjit Singh and Se Na Lee — allege they were sold units in the hotel under false pretenses and misled to believe their investments would result in returns ranging from 7.74 per cent to 20.90 per cent.
Instead, the two investors lost a combined $1.2 million, according to a decision by the Ontario Court of Appeal last year.

ReplyDelete"Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) says it’s time for Democrats to run on single-payer health care across the country."
"“Now it’s time for the next step. And the next step is single payer,” she said.
Warren’s comments represent a shift to her position on the U.S. health care system. In March, she said her support for switching to single-payer ― in which the government handles coverage of health care costs, rather than insurance companies ― would depend on whether Democrats could find Republican lawmakers willing to help fix the Affordable Care Act passed under Obama."
Well, guess that's been settled and all doubt removed. The Death Party ain't fixing anything except the elections.
"National Democrats have been reluctant to call for putting single-payer at the top of their party platform. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who supports single-payer, rejected the idea earlier this year, saying the issue should be left up to the states because Congress is not ready for it yet."
And there you have it. The DCCC isn't listening to the PEOPLE.
"White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer tweeted that plans by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to introduce a bill that would create a single-payer system “lays out” the choice for GOP senators wary of the bill their leaders unveiled last week." (Bashing to commence in 3....2....1.)
"In her Journal interview, Warren called on Democrats to ditch half-measures and commit to progressive policies that they believe in.
“It’s not like we’re trying to sell stuff that people don’t want. … It’s not that at all,” she said. “It’s that we haven’t gotten up there and been as clear about our values as we should be, or as clear and concrete about how we’re going to get there.”"
Gee, ya think?

Of course they want Kennedy to retire. He isn't reliably right wing anymore. He's become too neutral, Even a bit liberal.
DeleteThey need a reliable fifth.
Of course, that means they'll have to put pressure on Roberts to toe the line. He's too activist and has not voted their way on several issues.
I'll be they are lighting candles and sticking pins in Ginsberg dolls hoping she'll drop dead.
