Pentagon considering a possible nuclear response to the next cyber attack. WTF?

Courtesy of HuffPo:

The Pentagon is reportedly pushing a new retaliation tactic should the U.S. ever be hit by a devastating cyberattack: America could nuke the culprit.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that a pre-decisional draft of the Defense Department’s 2018 Nuclear Posture Review, which details U.S. nuclear strategy, includes “large cyberattacks” as an example of a non-nuclear strike on American lives and infrastructure that could be countered with nuclear weapons.

“Three current and former senior government officials said large cyberattacks against the United States and its interests would be included in the kinds of foreign aggression that could justify a nuclear response,” the Times wrote of the new strategy. The officials stressed, however, that “other, more conventional options for retaliation” could also be used in response to a cyberattack.

The Nuclear Posture Review, or NPR, was commissioned last year by President Donald Trump and is currently being reviewed by the White House. It will need the president’s approval before it’s made final.

No, no, no, no, no!!!

As much as I want there to be a more robust response to the next cyber attack you cannot kill potentially millions of innocent people becasue their government is hacking our email accounts.

Nuclear weapons are the final deterrent, NOT the opening salvo in response to an attack.

Especially a non-lethal cyber attack.

Besides who believes that Putin's puppet would actually allow this response to a Russian attack, which is the most likely?

And while the Pentagon is apparently losing its collective mind, the Trump Administration has still done virtually nothing to defend us against the next online attack from our enemies.

It appears that under this President not only is the U.S. in jeopardy but the entire world is at risk. Since his medical evaluation has cleared him of a dementia diagnoses he is now free to continue his unhinged and unpredictable behaviour without restraints. What is to be done?

Graduate students from all over the world come to the USA to major in Computer Science. Are you telling me that we do not have the brightest professors and programmers to counter a cyber onslaught from other countries? So Trump choses nukes over using brains. Of course. Bullshit.

FBI investigating whether Russian money went to NRA to help Trump

The FBI is investigating whether a top Russian banker with ties to the Kremlin illegally funneled money to the National Rifle Association to help Donald Trump win the presidency, two sources familiar with the matter have told McClatchy.

FBI counterintelligence investigators have focused on the activities of Alexander Torshin, the deputy governor of Russia’s central bank who is known for his close relationships with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and the NRA, the sources said.

It is illegal to use foreign money to influence federal elections.

It’s unclear how long the Torshin inquiry has been ongoing, but the news comes as Justice Department Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s sweeping investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including whether the Kremlin colluded with Trump’s campaign, has been heating up.

All of the sources spoke on condition of anonymity because Mueller’s investigation is confidential and mostly involves classified information.

A NRA member invited Trump to the Kremlin on behalf of Putin before the election.

Right before that the NRA sent a delegation to meet with Putin allies in Russia before investing $30.3 million into Trump’s campaign.

      It’s like, a conspiracy, or something. 🤔 #TrumpShutdown

The plot thickens: Lewandowski pulled the same stunt today Bannon pulled yesterday—a false assertion of privilege for post-firing conversations—and House Intel Committee Republicans did nothing. Schiff noted the difference, and clearly found it suspicious.

2/ Couple this with MSNBC reporting indicating that House Republicans' inexplicable subpoena of Bannon in mid-testimony *threatened* his future usefulness to Mueller—which is why Mueller then subpoenaed him himself, apparently—and it seems *some* kind of game is going on here.

5/ The picture emerging here is of a Trump-Nunes nexus which—again—is snaking around behind the scenes trying to deep-six the Russia investigation. It would explain a *lot* about how strangely the last 48 hours of House Intelligence Committee testimony unfolded, that's for sure.

People know that Nunes is in bed with tRump, and they are simply not responding to the GOP inquest, because they know it would go straight back to him. Instead, they opt to cooperate with Mueller, where they know there is at least a CHANCE of real results, a chance of action to stop this madman.

Here's why this matters: yesterday Republicans showed how Congress WOULD be treating these recalcitrant Trumpworld witnesses if Congress WEREN'T terrified of Trump. As I've been saying all along, MANY witnesses would have been found in Contempt by now for how they've been acting.

"Democrats are stalling, or, to put it in the words of one Republican congresswoman, “DICKing around,” " was moved when I heard Dick Durbin say there’s lives hanging in the balance, or something like that,” Mc$ally said according to Mediaite. “I was like moved to jump in and say the only lives that are hanging in the balance are those of our military, the men and woman that are serving overseas, putting their lives in harm’s way.”
    Mc$ally continued: “While our troops are over there risking their lives for us, these guys are DICKing around.”" “DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don’t really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our Military.” {dead americans walking}

You lost me at "Nuclear weapons are a final deterrent" -- yeah, if what you're trying to "deter" is the survival of the human race.

    1. Well the idea is that they are never supposed to be used.

Just used as a threat to keep your enemies at bay.

So the idea that you would open with them as a response to a cyber attack is insane.

      Delete
    2. That only works if a threat is reasonable and you have established a pattern of followthrough.

Ask any parent how effective “I’m going to kill you!” Is as a threat to a child to either stop doing something or do something they are supposed to do. “Clean your room or I’ll kill you” isn’t very effective.

But if you establish a rule and reasonable consequence and follow through it works.

“Clean this room or I will confiscate your phone for a week” then confiscate the phone for the entire week if they don’t, that is DISCIPLINE. It is a reasonable consequence to a defiant behavior.

But... children make the worst parents. You can’t expect the todler in the White House to understand any of this. I has no discipline and he’s never raised children. He thinks an unreasonable response like nuking an enemy is a deterrent. It isn’t. Sane leaders would simply think he’ll never do it, there are people who would prevent him from doing it.

Plus, the hackers can easily make it look like the hack is coming from another country. So Russia can hack us, make it look like North Korea did it, then Trump nukes North Korea because he’s been itching to do it anyway.

However you look at it, it is BAD POLICY.

Meanwhile Bitch McConnell is putting a racist on the North Carolina appeals court.
