Who wouldn’t want to go see the real first lady Michelle Obama, even if that meant “settling” for an amazing, intricate portrait rather than the real deal?
As it turns out, everyone was just waiting to see the unique portrait Baltimore artist Amy Sherald painted of the former FLOTUS after it was unveiled at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery last month.
So much so that the museum was forced to relocate the portrait because of the demand.
I am not so sure that it is the painting itself which draws so much attention, or that it represents one of the greatest First Ladies who has ever graced the White House.
We were so lucky to have them both.
BTW this is the message that the Obamas sent to those Parkland students.
Even out of office they are still supporting Americans and their quest to end gun violence.EXCLUSIVE: Here’s the letter @BarackObama and @MichelleObama wrote to the #ParklandShooting survivors. In it, the former president and first lady tell the teens that they’ve “inspired” them, and commend them on “awakening the conscience of our nation.” https://t.co/FOQYVguNFw pic.twitter.com/xEPHE6iUL2— Mic (@mic) March 21, 2018
I miss Michelle . . . .
ReplyDeleteA most gracious Mr. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
ReplyDeleteThe superlative role model of what it means to be an American! Awesome Leaders. In tumultuous times.
Such a wonderful, classy and intelligent couple and so unlike the disgusting jerk currently occupying the WH. So unfortunate that we can't have the Obamas back.
ReplyDeleteThe Obamas have so much class and dignity. And that is something you cannot buy. You have it or you don’t. They do. The current occupant does not.
ReplyDeleteThat letter to the Parkland students is so powerful and uplifting.
ReplyDeleteI love both these portraits, but Michelle's really captures her essence.
I always had tremendous respect for the Obamas and was proud that they were representing our country, but have even greater admiration for them now as we contrast them with the current embarrassments in the White House.
ReplyDeleteTwo comments, both of them mean and unkind.
ReplyDeleteONE. When the Trumps finally get the hell out of the White House, can you imagine what will happen to their portraits? The National Gallery will have to hang them behind bulletproof glass and post 24-hour guards.
TWO. Where is Sarah Palin's portrait? I've seen her phone number written on a bathroom wall, but, her portrait . . . ??
That letter frightens me in a way. It may just "inspire" Humpty Trumpty to destroy the Parkland students simply BECAUSE the Obamas wrote to them and praised them.
ReplyDeleteAfter all, that THING has tried to destroy everything else they did.
I love Mrs. Obama to pieces and miss her so much! I just do not like that portrait of her.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree. While I think it's a fascinating painting, artistically speaking, I don't think it looks like her at all.
