Just when the country is being threatened by a megalomaniac super villain, Batman dies!

Adam West, the ardent actor who managed to keep his tongue in cheek while wearing the iconic cowl of the Caped Crusader on the classic 1960s series Batman, has died. He was 88. 

West, who was at the pinnacle of pop culture after Batman debuted in January 1966, only to see his career fall victim to typecasting after the ABC show flamed out, died Friday night in Los Angeles after a short battle with leukemia, a family spokesperson said. 

West died peacefully surrounded by his family and is survived by his wife Marcelle, six children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Adam West was the Batman of my youth, and even though I fully appreciated Keaton and Bale, I always had a soft spot for the campy 1960's television show.

That was back in the days when television violence could be somewhat censored by an image like this flashing on the screen.

Good times.

Lately the Adam West Batman meme has popped up in all kinds of places including anti-Trump rallies.

Oh yeah, I would have paid Adam West a pile of cash to play that out in real life.

Well I for one am sad to see the passing of an icon.

He will be missed.

However fear not because there is a new generation of heroes to take his place.

After all children do need heroes, perhaps today more than ever.

This is why one is our President, and the other is a source of constant embarrassment to his family.

Oh and by the way since many of you were asking, yes I recognize this guy's point, but I find his timing insensitive and unnecessarily provocative.

I feel that what the President said yesterday, whether I am a person of faith or not, was the correct and appropriate response for a grieving nation.

And speaking of appropriate responses, this from "The Dark Knight Rises" director Christopher Nolan:

Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of The Dark Knight Rises, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community. I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime. The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me. Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families. 

Massacre erupts during midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises." Reports so far indicate 50 gunshot victims, 12 fatalities. Update!

About 50 people were shot — 12 fatally — early Friday when a gunman opened fire at an Aurora movie theater during a premiere showing of the new Batman movie. 

A 24-year-old man in is custody and an apartment building in north Aurora connected to the suspect was being evacuated and searched for possible explosives, according to Police Chief Dan Oates. 

Several federal sources identified the suspect as James Holmes, NBC reported. 

Ten people died at the scene and two others died at hospitals. Many of the injured were critically injured. 

Around 12:39 a.m., police received multiple reports of the shooting at the theater complex, located at 14300 E. Alameda Ave., and arrived minutes later, according to Aurora police. 

Police say the suspect "appeared" at the front of one of the theaters showing "The Dark Knight Rises." Witnesses told The Post he entered through an emergency exit at the right front of the Theater 9 less than 10 minutes into the film. 

The suspect then threw some type of explosive and started shooting into the packed theater. 

The man had a rifle, a handgun and a gas mask when police arrested him. At this time, police have no evidence that there are any additional suspects involved in the shooting. 

The bodies of the 10 people who died at the theater remain at the scene while police continue to investigate. Police previously stated that 14 people were killed.

This is still a breaking story so details are still coming in. They have identified the suspect however.

The young man who is in custody after allegedly gunning down 12 people in a mass shooting spree overnight in Aurora, Colorado has been identified as local resident James Holmes, according to federal authorities. 

A San Diego woman who identified herself as James Holmes' mother told ABC News she had awoken unaware of the shooting and had not yet been contacted by authorities. She immediately expressed concern that her son may have been involved. 

"You have the right person," she said, apparently speaking on gut instinct. "I need to call the police... I need to fly out to Colorado." 

Local news reports showed aerial video of police cautiously searching Holmes' apartment, some five miles from the Century Aurora 16 theater, as the suspect reportedly told police he had explosives inside.

There are reports that this guy may have been dressed up to resemble the character of "Bane" in the movie, but that is mostly speculation at this point.

What is not speculation is that this lunatic had access to multiple assault weapons, at least one tear gas grenade, and possibly a houseful of explosives.  Without those items he would have been a fairly harmless kook,

But hey, let's not forget to defend our 2nd amendments rights.  These days there is nothing more important than those.

Update: Apparently this individual has booby trapped his home.

I have heard of the possible Tea Party affiliation, but right now I am  waiting for further confirmation before giving it too much credence.

Update 2: The killer was not channeling the character Bane, he thought he was the Joker:

 According to police sources, Holmes told the officers arresting him that he was "The Joker," referring to the villain in the second installment of the Batman movie trilogy, "The Dark Knight." He also warned police that he had booby-trapped his apartment, leading officers to evacuate the Aurora apartment building.

Rush Limbaugh goes off his meds as he accuses makers of the new Batman movie of a liberal plot by naming villain after Bain Capital. WTF?

Okay so the giant fleshy lump of stupidity has REALLY outdone himself this time.

Yesterday the living representation of Jabba the Hut, said the following according to Business Insider:

 "Do you think that it is accidental that the name of the really vicious fire breathing four eyed whatever it is villain in this movie is named Bain [sic]?" (Actually the character is named "Bane.")


"This movie, the audience is gonna be huge. A lot of people are gonna see the movie, and it's a lot of brain-dead people, entertainment, the pop culture crowd, and they're gonna hear Bane in the movie and they're gonna associate Bain. The thought is that when they start paying attention to the campaign later in the year, and Obama and the Democrats keep talking about Bain, Romney and Bain, that these people will think back to the Batman movie, "Oh, yeah, I know who that is." (laughing) There are some people who think it'll work. Others think you're really underestimating the American people to think that will work."

I know, right?

I mean how simple minded, and brain damaged, do you have to be to think that a movie which first advertised its main bad guy back in May of 2011, had simply had the precognitive abilities to foresee that Mitt Romney would be the nominee, and that his work with Bain Capital would be a problem for the candidate the EXACT same tie that this movie made its debut? (By the way the character was first introduced in the Knightfall" story arc back in 1993. Coincidentally a full year BEFORE Mittens first decided to enter politics.)

Of course this whole thing is ridiculous, but it is made even MORE ridiculous by the fact that the two creators of Bane are two of the few conservatives even in the comic book field:

“The idea that there’s some kind of liberal agenda behind the use of Bane in the new movie is silly,” Dixon told ComicBook.com. “I refuted this within hours of the article in the Washington Examiner suggesting that Bane would be tied to Bain Capital and Mitt Romney appearing. Bane was created by me and Graham Nolan and we are lifelong conservatives and as far from left-wing mouthpieces as you are likely to find in comics.”

Look I know that the Right Wing idiots are in a blind panic right now as they are watching their chosen GOP candidate (That virtually NONE of them really wanted!) get his ass handed to him time and time again.  But THIS kind of bizarre conspiracy theory just makes them all seem like they are out of their freaking minds.  And THAT can't be true about them, can it?

Personally I have NO idea how any of them could ever have believed that this Batman villain had ANYTHING to do with Mitt Romney.
