When I turned 21, while going to school in Hawaii, my girlfriend sang "The Rose" to me for my birthday.

She had an exquisite voice and I was forever trying to get her to sing for me, but she usually refused.

On this day she sang the entire song A capella, and it remains the most beautiful thing that I have ever heard in my entire life.

So there is a very special place in my heart for Better Midler, and I am pleased to see that she is still a force to be reckoned with.

P.S. By the way the first time I became really smitten with my girlfriend is while she was acting in a high school version of Catch-22.
