Melania Trump files lawsuit against news outlet for alleging she was an escort because...get this...it prevented her from profiting off being the First Lady.

"Allo, do you like this outfit? It can be yours. Do you like me? Make me an offer."
Courtesy of the WaPo:

An attorney for first lady Melania Trump argued in a lawsuit filed Monday that an article falsely alleging that she once worked for an escort service hurt her chance to establish “multimillion dollar business relationships” during the years in which she would be “one of the most photographed women in the world.”

The suit — filed Monday in New York Supreme Court, a state trial court, in Manhattan — against Mail Media, the owner of the Daily Mail, said the article published by the Daily Mail and its online division last August caused Trump’s brand, Melania, to lose “significant value” as well as “major business opportunities that were otherwise available to her.” The suit said the article had damaged her “unique, once in a lifetime opportunity” to “launch a broad-based commercial brand.”

“These product categories would have included, among other things, apparel accessories, shoes, jewelry, cosmetics, hair care, skin care and fragrance,” according to the lawsuit, which was filed on Trump’s behalf by California attorney Charles Harder.

Neither Harder nor the White House responded to requests for comment late Monday. Harder has represented several high-profile clients, including wrestler Hulk Hogan, who won a $140 million invasion of privacy verdict against Gawker last year.

So she is not suing because she feels she was personally defamed, and that her image as First Lady has been unduly tarnished, but instead because she cannot turn a profit while serving her country?

So to be clear Melania Trump is upset that allegations that she was once a prostitute are preventing her from continuing to prostitute her name and image for money?

Do these people even hear themselves?

Ivanka Trump is now apparently usurping the role as "First Lady" to push her father toward a more liberal agenda. Eww?

Courtesy of Politico:

If there were any question whether Ivanka’s deep involvement in her father’s divisive campaign would ruin her social standing among liberals, here was her answer: Less than two months before Election Day, she was still a member of the club — albeit with a full security detail keeping her at a slight remove.

Ivanka, 35, Trump’s avatar among the moneyed left-wing elite, is now poised to be the first “first daughter” in modern history to play a larger public role than the first lady. And she’s positioning herself exactly as she did that weekend — as a bridge to moderates and liberals disgusted and depressed with the tone and tenor of the new leader of the free world.

And the ambitious daughter, who once plotted her career around international brand domination, is planning to take on an even heavier lift. Ivanka wants to make climate change — which her father has called a hoax perpetuated by the Chinese — one of her signature issues, a source close to her told Politico. The source said Ivanka is in the early stages of exploring how to use her spotlight to speak out on the issue.

Okay while I appreciate at least somebody advocating for protecting this planet, does it HAVE to come with so many incestuous overtones?

I mean the First Lady is the first lady, and the daughter is supposed to just show up for photo-ops and to help her father demonstrate his family values. Right?

But apparently there is a void and Ivanka aims to fill it:

Trump’s third wife, Melania, has made no public appearances or statements since Election Day, save for the family’s joint “60 Minutes” interview. (The Slovenian-born former model has been spotted outside of her home in Trump Tower only twice — dining privately and silently at 21 and at Serafina with family members).

Instead, it’s Ivanka’s expressionless exterior — and continued comfort and acceptance in the social circles that recoil at Trump pére — that are gelling into the lead family role for the most temperamental and mercurial incoming president in the country’s history.

Oh man, what in the hell were those Trump voters thinking?

Look I hope that Ivanka is able to change her father's mind on climate change, I really do.

I just hope that she does not have to get all Genesis 19:33 to convince him.

Celebrating the birthday of perhaps one of our all time greatest Presidents. A great way to end our day.

Fuck I'm going to miss these two.

Oh, and these two as well.

There were a lot of good speeches last night at the DNC convention, but I think Michelle Obama's was the best.

Courtesy of Vanity Fair:

As perhaps the last Democrat who could do no wrong in the eyes of the American people, Michelle Obama brought a divided audience to their feet in Philadelphia by urging the country to vote for Hillary Clinton, speaking not just as the First Lady, but as a mother of two daughters who could not let a certain “bully” become president.

“Barack [Obama] and I think about every day as we try to guide and protect our girls through the challenges of this unusual life in the spotlight,” she said. “How we urge them to ignore those who question their father’s citizenship or faith. How we insist that the hateful language they hear from public figures on TV does not represent the true spirit of this country. How we explain that once someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level. No, our motto is, ‘when they go low, we go high.’ With every word we utter, with every action we take, we know our kids are watching us.”

Obama never mentioned Donald Trump by name. But as she spoke about the need to elect a president with whom they could entrust the future of their children, she heavily hinted that someone “angry or disillusioned,” who liked to swear and degrade people, could not be a role model to young Americans.

She was incredibly inspirational, incredibly poised, and incredibly effective.

And yet as you can hear in the video even she was booed by those who will never be satisfied.

For me I was at times almost overwhelmed with emotion as once again I was reminded of just how perfect our first family is. Especially when compared to those on the other side of the aisle fighting to replace them.

We have been honored to have a magnificent President, a magnificent First Lady, and a magnificent eight years of Democratic leadership.

And that is why we need, and deserve eight more years of it.

By most accounts Melania Trump gave a speech as good as Michelle Obama's speech in 2008. In fact it was Michelle Obama's speech from 2008. Update!

Courtesy of Vox:

One of the more uplifting sections in Melania Trump’s convention speech tonight was virtually identical to a passage from Michelle Obama’s convention speech in 2008.

I kind of exaggerated how much of the speech was plagiarized in the headline for comedic value, but it IS still a speech given by a wannabe First Lady that borrows liberally from a speech given by the current First Lady, so it is definitely worthy of mocking.

What's more it speaks to the sloppiness of the Trump campaign which has been pointed out again and again. After all how you run your campaign is a voter's first hint as to how you will run the country.

And so far it appears that Trump would run it into the ground.

Speaking of the campaign Trump's campaign manager knows just whose fault all of this is....Hillary's.

Courtesy of Politico:

But Tuesday morning on CNN’s “New Day,” Manafort categorically denied that Melania Trump’s speech had been lifted in any way from remarks by Obama or anyone else.

“I thought Melania Trump hit it out of the park when she talked about her love of family, the feeling of an immigrant that comes to this country and succeeds,” Manafort said. “And I thought that the feeling she has towards her husband and her depiction of the real Donald Trump came through loud and clear.”

“There's no cribbing of Michelle Obama's speech. These are common words and values that she cares about her family, things like that,” he continued when asked by anchor Chris Cuomo about the plagiarism allegations. “I mean, she was speaking in front of 35 million people last night. She knew that. To think that she would be cribbing Michelle Obama's words is crazy. This is once again an example of when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, how she seeks out to demean her and take her down. It's not going to work.”

For the record news outlets and folks on social media were already pointing out the plagiarism well before anybody on the Clinton campaign got around to tweeting it out.

Besides I think we all know where the blame really lies.

Yep, that makes sense.

Update: Jokes on you liberals, Melania Trump did not plagiarize Michelle Obama. She plagiarized Twilight Sparkle.
Damn, just how deep is this rabbit hole?

And he will be a great one.

You know if Hillary wins in 2016, the Clinton marriage will be the most scrutinized marriage in history.

I know, what's new right?

Michelle Obama tears up while speaking to Chicago audience about need for stricter gun laws.

Courtesy of Mediaite:

First lady Michelle Obama became emotional on Wednesday as she addressed a Chicago audience and urged their support for stricter gun laws. She described the shooting death of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who had sung at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration just days before her shooting death, and asked if the nation was doing enough for children like Pendleton.

“I think my husband put it best when he spoke to the people of Newtown, Connecticut, back in December,” Michelle Obama began. “This is our first task – caring for our children. It’s our first job. If we don’t’ get that right, we don’t get anything right. That’s how, as a society, we will be judged. And by that measure, can we truly say as a nation that we’re meeting our obligations?”

“It was the question weighing on my heart when I met with Hadiya Pendleton’s classmates on the day of her funeral,” the first lady continued.

She became emotional describing how Pendleton’s classmates remembered the slain teen at her funeral. “It is hard to know what to say to a room full of teenagers who are about to bury their best friend,” Mrs. Obama said. “I told them that there is a reason we are here on this earth. That each of us has a mission in this world, and I urged them to use their lives to give meaning to Hadiya’s life.”

Damn that got to me as well. Very emotional and clearly she was speaking quite honestly, and directly from her heart.

So stay tuned for the attacks from the Right Wing, because you KNOW they are coming!

Best First Lady ever!

Michelle Obama steals the show at last night's Academy Awards celebration. Conservatives pissy as usual.

I am sorry about showing you a video that comes from Glenn Beck's lunatic Right Wing website The Blaze, but sadly that was the best video I could find of the event.

Here is the text of her speech:

“Welcome to the White House, everyone. I am so honored to help introduce this year’s nominees for best picture, and to help celebrate the movies that lift our spirits, broaden our minds, and transport us to places we have never imagined… “These 9 movies took us back in time and all around the world. They made us laugh, they made us weep, and they made us grip our arm rests just a little tighter. They taught us that love can endure against all odds, and transform our lives in the most surprising ways. And they reminded us that we can overcome any obstacle if we dig deep enough and fight hard enough and find the courage to believe in ourselves. These lessons apply to all of us no matter who we are, or what we look like, or who we love…”

Of course the First Lady's appearance did not sit too well with the conservatives who have already started to bitch about it.

First this from the same website from which I got this video:

Oh My God: The Academy actually drafts First Lady Michelle Obama to help present Best Picture from presumably the White House? So unnecessary and inappropriate to inject politics into the Oscars yet again. Hollywood will get pilloried by conservative pundits tomorrow. I don’t understand this very obvious attempt to turn off right-leaning audiences. Clearly the studios only want to sell their movies to half of America.

Yes because as we know the Obama's are only the President and First Lady for half of the American people, right?

But wait, there's more:

Has a First Lady ever intruded on Oscar night in such fashion? My memory says no, but it's possible this isn't the first time. It is, however, typical of a White House operation that excels in glamour over substance, that feels compelled to enter every public space from sporting events to late night shows to even the biggest night of the year for Hollywood.

Yes, the Obamas owe Tinsel Town plenty for all their support - financial and promotional - during the 2012 election. But there's simply no reason for Michelle Obama to be given the biggest assignment on Oscar night.

Conservative viewers, if there were any left by the time the show wrapped, will not soon forget this.

And of course the Washington Post weighed in as well:

It is not enough that President Obama pops up at every sporting event in the nation. Now the first lady feels entitled, with military personnel as props, to intrude on other forms of entertaining (this time for the benefit of the Hollywood glitterati who so lavishly paid for her husband’s election). I’m sure the left will holler that once again conservatives are being grouchy and have it in for the Obamas. Seriously, if they really had their president’s interests at heart, they’d steer away from encouraging these celebrity appearances. It makes both the president and the first lady seem small and grasping. In this case, it was just downright weird.

You know considering the fact that three of the nine nominees for Best Picture had overtly political themes (Lincoln, Argo, and Zero Dark Thirty) it seemed to me oddly fitting that the First Lady be the one to hand out the award. And like, am sure, most Americans I really enjoyed seeing Michelle Obama participate.

However with that being said, the fact that it ticks the Righties off so much just makes her appearance at the awards even more awesome.

Let's face it, both this President and his First Lady are going to be a hard act to follow. Especially for any uptight, repressed conservatives that might want to hold those positions in the future.

Update: By the way it looks like Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence has a message for those Right Wing critics of the First Lady's presentation.

You know I am liking this young woman more and more every day.

Since you all seemed to enjoy that clip this morning of Michelle Obama dancing with Jimmy Fallon perhaps you would like to see the actual interview.

Part One:

Part Two:

Doesn't it seem that Jimmy Fallon and Michelle are like best girlfriends or something?

I mean here they are discussing reality television and the upcoming Oscars, like besties or something.

I thought overall the First lady gives her best interviews on Fallon's show.

Michelle Obama helps Jimmy Fallon demonstrate the Evolution of the Mom Dance.

Is there anybody who does not like Michelle Obama?

I think she is certainly setting the bar a whole lot higher for the next batch of First Ladies, that much is for sure.
