Alt-Right Paul Ryan challenger kicked off Twitter for being a racist. Show of hands, who didn't see that coming?

Courtesy of Yahoo News:

Twitter has suspended the account of alt-right GOP candidate Paul Nehlen after he was accused of racism for a tweet about Meghan Markle, fiancée of British royal Prince Harry.

Nehlen, who is seeking to unseat House Speaker Paul Ryan in Wisconsin’s November primaries, has not spoken out about the suspension.

In the tweet, he superimposed a picture on Markle’s image of the reconstructed appearance of Cheddar Man, an ancient Briton who experts now believe was dark skinned after conducting DNA tests on his 9,000-year-old remains.

A Twitter spokesperson told Newsweek on Monday morning that "while we normally do not comment on individual accounts, I can confirm that we have permanently suspended this account for repeated violations of our terms of service."

In recent months, Twitter has removed accounts that have spread racist or abusive messages as it seeks to make the platform more user friendly.

I know, you're probably thinking "An alt-right Republican is a racist, say it ain't so."

But of course it's so.

And we undoubtedly already realized that after this ringing endorsement.

Oh yeah, if you are ever in doubt as to whether somebody is a racist or not, just find out if Palin supports them.

That puts the whole question to rest.

Prince Harry interviews Barack Obama. Update!

Man I really hate morning shows, but this was the best clip I could find.

Here is more from Politico:

Former President Barack Obama said he felt a sense of “serenity” the day his successor was inaugurated.

“The first thing that went through my mind was, sitting across from Michelle, how thankful I was that she had been my partner through that whole process,” Obama said in a BBC interview with Prince Harry recorded in September, his first interview since leaving office in January.

But Obama said his “satisfying feeling” was also “mixed with all the work that was still undone.” He told Prince Harry that he still harbored “concerns about how the country moved forward.”

“But over all, there was serenity there,” he added.

(Boy I wish I could have felt serenity while watching Tangerine Hitler being sworn in.)

“I still care about making sure that the United States and the world is a place where kids get a decent education,” Obama said. “Where people who are willing to work hard are able to find a job that pays a living wage. That we’re conserving the amazing resources of our planet so that future generations can enjoy the beauty of this place. Like we did.”

Such a great man.

And there was even more from CNN:

In a BBC interview conducted by Britain's Prince Harry, Obama warned that the internet risked reinforcing people's prejudices and leading to a fractured society.

"All of us in leadership have to find ways in which we can recreate a common space on the internet," Obama said. "One of the dangers of the internet is that people can have entirely different realities. They can be cocooned in information that reinforces their current biases," he said.

(Gee, I wonder who he is talking about there?)

"The question has to do with how do we harness this technology in a way that allows a multiplicity of voices, allows a diversity of views, but doesn't lead to a Balkanization of society and allows ways of finding common ground," he said in the interview, which was taped in September during the Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada.

Obama said it was important for people to get offline and meet others in their communities, "because the truth is that on the internet everything is simplified and when you meet people face to face it turns out they are complicated," he said.

"One of things we want to do I think is as we're working with young people to build up platforms for social change," he said. "Make sure that they don't think that just sending out a hashtag in and of itself is bringing about change. It can be a powerful way to raise awareness but then you have to get on the ground and actually do something."

( Balkanization, "divide (a region or body) into smaller mutually hostile states or groups." Yeah, I had to look it up. Don't judge me.)

Asked by Harry what was the biggest change for him after his eight years in office, Obama reflected on a slowed pace of life and the new freedom he had to decide how to focus his activities.

"The things that are important to me haven't changed, I still care about about making the United States and the world a place where kids get an education, where people who are willing to work hard are able to find a job that pays a living wage, that we are conserving the amazing resources of our planet so that future generations can enjoy the beauty of this place like we did," he said.

In this same CNN report there is a mention that Prince Harry punted the question of whether Obama would be invited to the wedding.

Somebody on here yesterday suggested that the controversy about inviting Obama and angering Trump, was "fake news."

However it has been reported far and wide, so if it is fake virtually everybody was fooled by it.

When this interview comes out in full I am going to make sure to listen to it, and might share it here as well.

Update: Here is the entire BBC interview.  (It's 39 minutes long.)

British government begs Prince Harry not to invite Barack Obama to his wedding for fer of angering the orange tyrant in the White House.

Courtesy of The Sun:

Harry and fiancée Meghan Markle have told aides they want the former US president and wife Michelle at their big day on May 19.

The 33-year-old prince has become good friends with the Obamas since bonding with them during the Invictus Games.

But Britain’s relations with Trump’s White House have sunk to their lowest ebb since his election last year.

There are deep fears among senior Foreign Office and No10 officials that another perceived national snub will make it impossible for Theresa May to meaningfully engage with Trump.

A senior government source said: “Harry has made it clear he wants the Obamas at the wedding, so it’s causing a lot of nervousness.

“Trump could react very badly if the Obamas get to a Royal wedding before he has had a chance to meet the Queen.

“Conversations are ongoing about and ministers will eventually have to decide. If the PM lays down the law, Harry will just have to suck it up.”

As the wedding is not a state occasion, the Government only have a consultative role in its organization and heads of state will not be invited.

First off can you believe you just read that?

Quite literally the British government is trying to dissuade a prince from inviting a personal friend to his own wedding, because it might anger the sitting president of the United States and may negatively impact foreign relations with our country.

That is literally insane.

Of course the thing is that Prince Harry is well known for breaking the rules, so I imagine that Brits will have a hard time convincing him to make a decision like this.

And he absolutely SHOULD NOT!

This is HIS goddamn wedding, Obama is HIS goddamn friend, and this should be NOBODY'S goddamn business.

I still think that Harry and Meghan should make Obama part of their wedding party, and send a huge "fuck you" to Tangerine Hitler.

Prince Harry interviews Barack Obama for the BBC.

Courtesy of CNN:

In a teaser released Sunday, the pair's longtime bromance was on full display as they traded quips while Harry explained his editorial process.

"Do I need a British accent?" Obama interrupts, shooting a smirk at the prince.

Without missing a beat, Harry responds "not at all" before warning the former commander-in-chief that he'll get "the face" if there are any long pauses between answers.

After Harry displays a mock-stern face, Obama grins before responding: "I don't want to see that face."

Kensington Palace said the conversation focuses on the pair's "shared interest in building platforms for the next generation of young leaders."

Obama also reminisced about his memories of leaving office and discussed his post-presidential work with the Obama Foundation, according to the palace.

That is quite a witty repartee these two share.

I think Joe Biden is somewhere seething with envy.

At this rate Obama will not just be a guest of honor at Prince Harry's upcoming nuptials, we will be a freaking groomsman.

This interview is scheduled to air on December 27th.

I know I'm watching.

The wedding of the decade is coming soon, and while Donald Trump's invitation will likely be lost in the mail, his predecessor could be a guest of honor.

Courtesy of Newsweek:

The guest list hasn’t been set for the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but a number of things could stand in the way of President Donald Trump getting an invite.

But a former U.S. president might make the list, due to his friendship with the young British royal: Barack Obama and his wife, former first lady Michelle, who appear to have amiable relations with Harry and his elder brother and future king, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge.

Much of the reason that Trump may not make the guest list is focused on the added security and possible disruptions from protesters:

If Trump were to appear at Prince Harry’s wedding in spring 2018, it would likely spark protests. When Prime Minister Theresa May offered Trump a state visit early this year, polls showed that 2 million people intended to take part in a protest against him. The risk of embarrassment, were such a protest to occur at a royal wedding, might put the couple off inviting such a controversial figure.

However the bride has also expressed much disdain for the Orange tinted fuhrer:

As for President Trump, Harry's wife-to-be revealed that she was not a fan. In an interview on The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore during the 2016 election, Markle said she might decide to stay in Toronto—where her show, Suits, is filmed—if Trump were to win.

“We film Suits in Toronto, and I might just stay in Canada. I mean, come on, if that's reality we are talking about, come on, that is a game changer in terms of how we move in the world here,” she said.

Markle supported Democrat Hillary Clinton during the election, calling Trump “misogynistic.”

You know this is going to burn Trump's ass, who before he won the election was notorious for crashing A-list parties that he was not invited to attend.

I can hardly wait to read the Twitter tirade that this will inspire.

Since my last post was about the leader we should have had, this one will be about the one we sadly had to let slip away.

Barack Obama at the Invictus Games with Prince Harry.
Greeting the players
Being awesome
He brought his buddy Biden along as well
But don't think that all Obama is doing is showing up for photo ops, nothing could be further from the truth.

He is also still blowing people away with his words.

Courtesy of Thompson Citizen:

Former U.S. President Barack Obama said Friday that closing borders won't create future jobs because what's changing industries like manufacturing are automation and artificial intelligence.

Obama told a Toronto luncheon on Friday that the transition from an agricultural to an industrial economy happened over the course of 150 years, but that the technological revolution is happening in 20 years. He said it's hard for governments to catch up to the pace of disruption.

Obama said over the next 25 years, advanced economies will have to confront the fact that there is not going to be enough high-paying full-time work as we traditionally conceive it.

"You'll still see auto companies doing pretty well and you'll see us manufacturing the goods that we use in the United States or Canada, but you'll walk through those factories and they'll be empty because they'll be run by robots and AI," Obama said.

"The biggest challenge that we face in terms of maintaining good manufacturing jobs in our countries come from automation, and that is going to accelerate."

After the speech at the $1,000 a plate gathering attendees were asked their impression of the former American President:

"He still has this incredible optimism about Canada, the U.S., the world, in spite of how challenging our times are right now. It's very good for us to hear that," Glenda Rissman said.

Sharing a similar sentiment, Cynthia Dale said her "first takeaway is how inspiring it was and how ludicrously humble he is. He's so humble about what he did and what he continues to do."

One group of Canadian high school kids even skipped school to see him:

A group of high school students skipped class to see the former president.

It was "an experience you can't get in school," Abby Mcclellan said.

Ava De Pagter said she loves just "what he stands for; everyone should be equal. No matter the race or gender."

Yes, he is in fact one of a kind.

And we were blessed that we had him for as long as we did.

Not usually a royal watcher but Prince Harry has DEFINITELY earned my respect.

Courtesy of the Daily Mail:

A gay soldier told last night how Prince Harry bravely rescued him from a terrifying homophobic attack by squaddies from a rival regiment.

The Prince stepped in to save Trooper James Wharton after he was confronted by six soldiers threatening to ‘batter’ him.

Trooper Wharton fled to find Harry – who was his tank commander – and tearfully told the Prince what had happened.

‘I told him, “I think I’m going to be murdered by the infantry.” I climbed into the turret and talked Harry through exactly what had happened. He had a complete look of bewilderment on his face.

‘I couldn’t stop the tears from welling up in my eyes. He said, “Right I’m going to sort this s*** out once and for all.”

'He climbed out of the tank and I poked my head out of the turret a few moments later to see him having a go,’ Wharton said.

Harry, a Troop Commander in the Blues and Royals, confronted the tormentors, warning them they would face severe discipline if they continued their violent threats.

‘I could see he wasn’t holding back,’ said Wharton, who was 21 at the time.

After taking on the gang, Harry briefed a senior officer before returning to assure Wharton the situation had been ‘sorted’.

Battling homophobes in the military. Now THAT is the kind of thing that would make even a common soldier a prince among men.

Just so happens this is an actual prince.

I have kind of been a Prince Harry fan for awhile now. Especially after I watched him abruptly end an interview while in Afghanistan in response to an alarm.
