Fox News features a fake Navy Seal in a story supporting Donald Trump.

Fox News ran a story on Oct. 8 about a decorated Vietnam War Navy SEAL and glass artist who created an enormous presidential glass seal he hoped to give to President Trump. On Thursday, 11 days later, the network retracted the story after being told the Trump supporter never served in the SEALs or in Vietnam, much less earned commendations for his service. 

In the segment, John Garafalo said he served in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy SEAL team. Fox News reported that he also received two Purple Hearts and about two dozen other medals for his service. 

The man’s claimed record turned out to be a fabrication. It was first discovered by former Navy SEALs. Both these SEALs and family members of Garofalo contacted Fox News about the story, according to the Navy Times. 

Don Shipley, a retired SEAL, told the Navy Times that he contacted Fox on Oct. 9, the day after the story ran. 

But the story was still on the news outlet’s Facebook page on Oct. 19. By then it had amassed 1.5 million views.

Fox News eventually published a correction but of course was after a million people had been fooled by their story.

 What a crackerjack team of researchers they employee at Fox News.

Now this same thing could of course happen to other cable news outlets like MSNBC or CNN, after all they have to present 24 hours of news each day.

However Fox News has a particular problem with the folks they present as experts, intelligence officials, or even actual journalists.

You know it's almost as if they care less about a person's credentials and more about whether or not they are willing to support the station's ideology and spout their talking points.

Or an I just being cynical?

The Trump administration is going to have a hard time filling national security jobs, because experts in that field do not feel secure with Donald Trump as the President.

President-elect Donald Trump is scrambling to line up senior officials to run the government’s sprawling intelligence and homeland security bureaucracy. 

Team Trump is struggling to fill numerous key slots or even attract many candidates because hundreds have either sworn they’d never work in a Trump administration or have directly turned down requests to join, multiple current and former U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the transition efforts told The Daily Beast. 

Team Trump didn’t expect to win until the campaign’s internal polling a month before the election signaled a possible victory. That’s when senior Trump officials went into overdrive, trying to build a bench of experienced national security candidates with top secret clearances willing to work for a Trump presidency—and they met resistance across the landscape of experienced GOP national security professionals. 

One person who met last month with Trump’s national security and homeland security transition team leader said that she confessed that many candidates had flatly rejected attempts to recruit them, believing that Trump was unfit to hold the office of commander in chief.

This is not the only group that is terrified of a Trump presidency.

There are other groups of professionals in education, defense, energy, economics, you name it, who simply do not think that this man has what it takes to do this job.

And yet, for reasons that are still had to understand, he is indeed in that position.

370 economists come forward to urge Americans NOT to vote for Donald Trump.

C'mon who are you gonna believe, a bunch of experts or me?"

A letter signed by 370 economists, some whom have won the Nobel Prize in economics, urged voters not to vote for Trump. 

"His statements reveal a deep ignorance of economics and an inability to listen to credible experts," the letter reads. The Wall Street Journal first reported on the letter, which was signed almost entirely by college professors. 

The economists did not endorse Hillary Clinton, but recommended that would-be Trump voters "choose a different candidate." 

They argue that Trump has deeply misled Americans on trade, manufacturing, immigration and public institutions critical to the credibility of the economy, such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which keeps track of how many jobs the economy creates and publishes a widely-watched monthly report.

Many times on TV I see these Trump surrogates claiming that they want to talk about the issues instead of the newest greatest scandal (Unless it has to do with Hillary's e-mails of course.) and I always think "Yeah, let's talk about the issues."

Because there is NO way that the Trump campaign can argue the issues with Hillary Clinton.

Nor would they want to.

The entire Trump campaign is driven by feelings, not facts.

And those feelings are that the country has fundamentally changed in such a way as to shift power away from the white Christian men who have run the country since its founding, and handed it to women, minorities, and non-Christians.

THAT is what drives their passion, THAT is what keeps them up at night, and THAT is why this article will not mean diddly squat to them.

Anybody who believes they are are supporting Donald Trump because of his stand on the issues, is either lying to themselves, lying to others, or too brain damaged to tie their shoes without referring to the manual. (By the way if you just thought "Wait. there's a manual?" you know where you fall on this list.)

Neil Cavuto publicly apologizes for having fake terrorism expert and CIA agent on his show.

On Friday afternoon, Fox News host Neil Cavuto took the rather extraordinary step of delivering a lengthy apology over his show’s use of Wayne Simmons as a terrorism expert, after it was revealed that Simmons had been arrested for allegedly lying about his ties to the Central Intelligence Agency. 

Cavuto told viewers that “it has come to our attention that a frequent guest on this show might not have been who he purported to be” (which presumably means Fox News will no longer be booking “presidential candidate” Bobby Jindal), but he also made a valiant attempt to stop the buck:

“If it’s true that all our due diligence and vetting on Mr. Simmons missed this, that’s big, and that’s on me. And only me.”

Oh it's true alright. Not only that but I would be willing to bet money that a number of the other "experts" on Fox News are fakes as well.

And it should be remembered that Fox allowed this Simmons guy to do incredible damage during numerous interviews.

Here are a few of the highlights:

A little more than a year after the 2008 presidential election, Simmons told Fox News that president Obama — who he called the “boy king” — was directly responsible for a number of recent acts of terrorism. 

Speaking on The O’Reilly Factor in 2005, Simmons defended then-President George W. Bush’s decision to go into Iraq, and said Democratic-controlled government would cause “9-1-1s unabated.” 

Employing another “guys like me” reference, Simmons in 2009 said that CIA operatives might abandon their posts because of then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, whom he called a “pathological liar.” 

Appearing on Fox News in March, he asserted that White House adviser Valerie Jarrett was actually running the country. But she didn’t know how to defeat ISIS. For Simmons, the solution was very simple. 

“We could end this in a week. And that’s not an exaggeration. That’s not hyperbole. We could run a number of sorties, thousands of sorties, locate, identify and designate absolutely decimate ISIS, ISIL, I.S., whatever you want to call them. They would all be dead,” he said.

There are of course many more examples of the constant stream of bullshit spewed by this phony asshole.

The thing is that while I hand it to Cavuto for at least making the minimal attempt to take some responsibility here, the fact remains that Fox News provides disinformation and outlandish fact free exaggerations on a daily basis.

And the truly frightening part is that their audience does not seem to care that they do.
