Where Senator Al Franken tries to explain to Ted Cruz what Net Neutrality means.

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) struggled on Sunday to explain to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) why he had been wrong to assert that net neutrality was “Obamacare for the Internet,” and that it would stifle innovation. 

But Franken told CNN’s Candy Crowley that Cruz had the concept of net neutrality “completely wrong.” 

“CNN’s website, [and] a blogger in Duluth, Minnesota travels at the same speed… The New York Times, their website travels the same speed,” Franken pointed out. “That’s the way that it’s been from the beginning. And we want to keep it that way.” 

“He has it completely wrong, he just doesn’t understand what this issue is,” the Minnesota Democrat said of Cruz. “We’ve had net neutrality the entire history of the Internet.” 

Franken observed that “Obamacare was government program that fixed something, that changed things. This is about reclassifying something so it stays the same. This would keep things exactly the same as they’ve been.”

Now I think of Al Franken as a national treasure. He is one of the smartest guys in politics right now, though to be honest that is kind of a low bar.

And when it comes to explaining things he is perhaps one of the very best. Perhaps even better than the "Explainer in Chief" himself, Bill Clinton.

But I can guarantee you that this is not going to change the mind of Ted Cruz one little bit.

And I will even give Cruz credit by saying that he actually DOES understand that what he said is ignorant and wrong.

However he also realizes that his target audience are a bunch of simple minded nose picking morons, who believe that the only thing the internet is good for is finding naked pictures of girls that remind them of their first cousins so that they can touch themselves.

So they will believe without question whatever ridiculous lie that Ted Cruz tells them. 

Excellent video to show that Evolutionary science denier in the family.

As you already know by now it absolutely drives me crazy that people who don't understand the teaching of Evolution, or simply despise it because it challenges the biblical story of creation, are constantly attacking science in our public school classrooms.

I think that this video does a rather exemplary job of pointing out all of the science that supports Evolution, as well as presenting the intermediary fossils which Creationists are always claiming simply do not exist. 

Definitely a good video to bookmark for that next holiday when old Uncle Jack starts pontificating on the "fact" that even scientists can't agree on Evolution, or that because they cannot point to a first cause the whole scientific discipline needs to be thrown out.

The great Carl Sagan completely debunks Creationism using something they call "science."

I love it!

My favorite part is that he explains the facts so eloquently and casually that it leaves little room for disagreement.

Well, for the rational among us anyway.

Now you have to pay close attention to the detail that Lawrence provides describing the intricacies of negotiations at the Senate level and to help with that here is a great transcript written up by the folks over at the Daily Kos.

If you don't have time for that I completely understand but I do want to draw your attention to this portion here:  

If you've ever actually tried to get a Republican in the House or Senate to vote on an income tax rate increase, proposed by a Democratic president--if you've done that--and perhaps only if you've done that, then you understand how hard it was for President Obama to get a tax increase out of a Republican House of Representatives and out of a Senate where the Republicans can block anything. 

Most pundits and members of Congress for that matter have never negotiated anything more complicated than a car loan or a mortgage and some of them will surely continue to criticize the President's negotiating skills but the President was playing a very long game here. 

Literally years of strategizing including allowing a two-year extension of the Bush rates in order to get strategically positioned, so that he could force Republicans to cast a vote they vowed never to cast.
