Five former presidents band together to help raise money for Puerto Rico. Because somebody has to do something.

All five living former presidents are joining forces on a fundraising campaign to help with hurricane recovery for the U.S., Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands. 

Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama have launched the One America Appeal campaign, allowing donors to help with relief efforts in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. 

Organizers say a special restricted account has been established through the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation to collect and quickly distribute donations. Officials say “100 cents out of every dollar” donated will help hurricane victims.

I can only imagine what the conversations between these former presidents must be like. 

I would think there would be a lot of shaking their heads in disbelief and real concern for the future of the country.

Donald Trump is apparently blaming Puerto Rico for getting all hurricaned and stuff.

Texas & Florida are doing great but Puerto Rico, which was already suffering from broken infrastructure & massive debt, is in deep trouble..

Those are American citizens fighting for their very survival and the giant orange taint is literally chewing them out for not being more like Florida and Texas. Which by the way were also badly damaged by a NATURAL DISASTER, not mistakes made by its citizens.

Hillary Clinton described last night why Trump simply does not give a shit.

During appearances on Sirius XM and MSNBC’s “All In With Chris Hayes,” Clinton described the president’s approach as a political calculus and being disinterest in the fate of the 3.5 million American residents living on the island. 

“He doesn’t think that has any political relevance and it’s certainly not personally important,” Clinton told Chris Hayes on Monday evening. “He clearly doesn’t want to talk about Puerto Rico, more than 3.5 million American citizens, along with the U.S. Virgin Islands. Not interested, doesn’t say a word about it.” 

Hayes, who was hosting his show while the president tweeted, expressed his own disbelief at Trump’s short tweets just moments after Puerto Rico’s governor told him that 60 percent of the island’s population had no access to clean water.

Yeah, Puerto Rico can't vote in a presidential election, and besides its populated with all of those brown people, so how could Donald Trump possibly give a good goddamn?

That is just incredibly humbling to witness the awesome power of nature.

And now that being demonstrated all over Florida.

Things aren't all bad however.

Donald Trump is promising billions to help Texas rebuild even as Republicans vote to take a billion out of disaster relief money to pay for his border wall.

President Donald Trump is promising billions to help Texas rebuild from Harvey-caused epic flooding, but his Republican allies in the House are looking at cutting almost $1 billion from disaster accounts to help finance the president’s border wall. 

The pending reduction to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster relief account is part of a massive spending bill that the House is scheduled to consider next week when lawmakers return from their August recess. The $876 million cut, which is included in the 1,305-page measure’s homeland security section, pays for roughly half the cost of Trump’s down payment on the U.S.-Mexico border wall that the president repeatedly promised Mexico would finance. 

So here's the thing Texas, on the one hand you won't have to worry about all of those pesky Mexicans taking the jobs you don't want to do anyway, but on the other hand you will be submerged under water.

Hey, nothing's perfect. 

However things may not be as dire as all that.

It seems sure that GOP leaders will move to reverse the disaster aid cut next week as floodwaters cover Houston, the nation’s fourth-largest city, and tens of thousands of Texans have sought refuge in shelters. There’s only $2.3 billion remaining in federal disaster coffer.

Poor Donald. Here is he all ready to finally achieve his xenophobic dream of keeping brown people out of America, and along comes some natural disaster, super sized by the climate change he refuses to believe in, to ruin the whole thing.

Oh well, surely those Mexicans were only kidding about not paying for it, right?

While praying to God for rain to put out the Texas forest fires for him, perhaps Rick Perrry should have prayed for the intelligence NOT to cut the firefighting budget by 75%.

According to KVUE-TV, the state of Texas, under Gov. Rick Perry, cut state funding for the volunteer fire departments that protect most of the state from wildfires. 

Firefighters have actually been dipping into their own pockets to fight fires. Volunteer departments that were already facing financial strain had their funding cut from $30 million to $7 million. 

There are 879 volunteer fire departments in Texas; 114 are paid fire departments, while 187 departments are a combination of volunteer and paid.

So just to clarify what is taking place in Texas: Rick Perry decides to cut the volunteer firefighting budget by 75% (What could go wrong with that?). The state is soon subjected to one of the worst droughts in American history. This results in perfect conditions to allow numerous devastating fires to ravage the countryside. Having no idea how to solve this crisis Governor Perry pleads with his fellow Texans to pray for rain. Then when THAT does not work (Go figure!), he asks one of the very Federal programs he is always railing against, FEMA, to come to Texas and rescue his state from his huge screw up.

Does THAT about cover it?

And THIS is the guy that the Republicans are seriously considering running for President?

P.S. Hell I did not even mention the number of innocent people that were put to death under his watch.
