No Child Left Behind leaves every single child behind.

Not a single state will have a highly qualified teacher in every core class this school year as promised by President Bush's education law. Nine states along with the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico face penalties.

The Department of Education on Friday ordered every state to explain how it will have 100 percent of its core teachers qualified -- belatedly -- in the 2006-07 school year.

In the meantime, some states face the loss of federal aid because they didn't make enough effort to comply on time, officials said.

They are Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina and Washington, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

I hate this program and find its emphasis on test taking to be numbing to the creativity of our nation's schoolchildren. I want to live in a country that produces artists, musicians, writers, and innovators, just as much as I want us to produce accountants, doctors, lawyers, and engineers.

I think that America has been the creative force in the world because of our open ended education programs. We have allowed our children to develop into individuals and that just serves to strengthen our country and provide much needed diversity.

There is nothing better then to be unique. There are many herds of people who are busy being the same. I prefer those that embrace the different.
