Oprah meet Obama. Obama meet the answer to your prayers.

Oprah Winfrey rolled out the red carpet Saturday for Barack Obama at a gala fundraiser attended by high-wattage stars that was expected to raise $3 million for the Democratic presidential candidate.

The most powerful woman in show business celebrated her favorite candidate with 1,500 guests at her palatial estate in this coastal enclave south of Santa Barbara. Tickets to the sold-out private event went for $2,300 apiece, keeping them within campaign finance limits.
Stevie Wonder performed for guests, who included Sidney Poitier, Forest Whitaker, Chris Rock, Cindy Crawford, Jimmy Connors, Linda Evans, Dennis Haysbert and many others. Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and Halle Berry also were expected, though it was unclear if they were in attendance. The media were barred from the fundraiser.

I am a big fan of Obama and would not be at all upset if he were to be named our next Democratic candidate. (I just wonder if John Edwards would be willing to fill out the ticket again. I kind of doubt it. Which is a shame because I still think that an Obama/Edwards ticket or Edwards/Obama ticket is a "slam dunk".)

I almost feel sorry for the other candidates who do not have their own Oprah to elevate them above the fray as well. Oprah is much better then having Bill Clinton, because she has absolutely no negatives attached to her at all.

The only possible negative thing that I can imagine occurring from the Oprah/Obama union is in the south. If those southern "good ole boys" see this as a purely black candidate, supported by the black community, and pushing a black agenda, that may inspire them to organize against them and send millions of votes to the Republicans.

But to be honest, most of these fellas will probably vote the Republican ticket no matter who the nominee is. Of course their wives may secretly go to vote for "Oprah's candidate" behind their backs. Because Oprah's influence breaks down racial lines in a way that nobody else in America can accomplish.
