Supreme Court Justice hopeful recuses himself from two cases seeking the release of Governor Palin e-mails.

An Anchorage judge who has applied for a seat on the state Supreme Court this week took himself off two public records cases pending against Gov. Sarah Palin. Both cases were brought by Anchorage activist Andree McLeod.

Superior Court Judge Craig Stowers wrote in a court order filed Tuesday that he thought he could be fair to both sides but stepped down because he realized his decisions could be questioned given his application to the Supreme Court.

"Both cases involve substantial issues of law and policy," Stowers wrote. "The parties and the public are entitled to have these important issues resolved in a context where there can be no question, not even a shadow of doubt, that the Court is acting in a neutral and fair manner."

The first thing that jumps out at me in this article is the fact that Judge Stowers says that these cases "involve substantial issues of law and policy", and it is very gratifying to have a judge recognize the importance of Andree's case.

But the other thing is that he feels he cannot oversee these cases without imperiling his chances of becoming a Supreme Court Justice in Alaska.

Is this an admission that daring to listen to this case would mean that the vindictive Sarah Palin would dismiss him out of turn? Or is he simply saying that if he were to rule against Andree McLoed, that it would be suspect because everybody would assume that he was in her pocket?

Well either way it is a very public affirmation of what many of us already know. That Sarah Palin still wields enormous power in this state and that anybody who wants to get ahead has to acknowledge that fact and either ingratiate themselves to her, or look for support from other sources in opposition to her. And by the way that would be us.

And this actually fits in with a quote I heard from one of my sources just the other day, which was the following: "She is the most dangerous person I have ever dealt with."

Now I can't reveal this source, but if I could that statement would be even more chilling.

I believe it is very smart for Judge Stowers to recuse himself from these cases, but it is very troubling indeed that he felt he had to. If he had listened to this case and made his decision based solely on its merits, how could anybody have found fault with that? I mean anybody but Governor Sarah Palin of course.

No Judge Stowers is not recusing himself because he is afraid that he may rule against McLeod and bring criticism from those of us on the left (And if he was, wouldn't it seem that Kevin Clarkson, who represented five state lawmakers who unsuccessfully sued to stop the Legislature's "Troopergate" investigation of Palin last fall when she was the Republican nominee for vice president, would feel the need to do the same?). He is doing so solely because he recognizes that Sarah Palin would NEVER allow him to become Supreme Court Justice if he dared to rule against her, or possibly even if he dared to hear the case at all.

That is the tyranny that the good people of Alaska are currently living with and that is what we need to constantly speak out against.

It seems to me that it will take "the Feds,' to save AK from this tyrant. I have thought this for many months, as I watched the Legislators dismiss complaints, calling them "frivilious" before hearing the arguments. It is anusing to hear her disdain for "The Feds," since she wanted (and wants) desperately to be a part of them in D.C. (as VP or future POTUS, God forbid).
Besides the Johnstons, I believe Talis Colberg knows a lot. He left so abruptly, and said so little about the reasons. Colberg, too, should write a book. The situation is AK is educational(though frightening); We all get to witness the results of a Tyrant - keeps us on our toes so we can make sure "Never again.' I hope.

Wow, Judge got himself off the hook, huh?! The Wrath of GINO.

I think the judge acted appropriately by excusing himself from the case. Conflict of interest, either way.

I agree that he recused himself because he wants to become a supreme, and if he takes the case against GINO, he definitely would not even be given a chance.

Everybody needs to think of other things we can do to bring this very dangerous woman down. I have always known she was very dangerous. I think she would do whatever it took to get what she wanted.

Are people writing the FBI? Are you submitting things she says to all media channels. You know she still could win the Republican nomination, because they have no decent candidate and supposedly the 3 wonderful people are tied (Huckabee, Romney and Palin). I do not like the first two, but they are not as frightening as Sarah... Please everyone write your legislature in Alaska constantly. They are very very weak bordering on embarrassing. What is wrong with them? I would have thought Lisa Murkowski had more nerve. Did you see in South Carolina someone SUED Mark Sanford for not taking the stimulus money for education. Well, the court ruled yesterday that the state has to take the money.

Who in Alaska has the guts to sue Governor Palin forcing her to take the stimulus money for weatherization projects??? Someone should do this, and bring her outright lies more into the public light.

Are people afraid of their lives, or are they afraid of their positions? It would make a difference. There are protections for whistleblowers, but not for personal or political gains. That's when one's civic duty should be expected by the taxpayers.

I agree about the education, the drop out rate was very surprising. If you keep a society, group of folks, whatever, undereducated, then the control will work that much easier, don't ya think?

From the beginning of her political career in Wasilla, Scarah has demonstrated that she uses the authority of her office to advance the personal, petty vendettas of her family.

She has no remorse in firing experienced, competent personnel if she thinks they will not submit themselves unconditionally to her every whim. I think one of the reasons she has gotten away with this kind of behavior for so long, is that her actions have been so outrageous, no one has wanted to believe she could really be that bad.

But actions speak louder than words, and she is a dangerous person, with no scruples in pursuing her personal or political goals.

Above all, be careful. The truth will come out eventually, but if you think "But surely no rational person would (fill in the blank)" you would be wrong about Scarah.

Just think if you live in rural Alaska! Here are a few quotes from my cousins and friends that live along a few of Alaska's largest rivers...

    "held hostage",
"clueless wonder",(this one I hear lots.)
    "Wasilla tart",
"last years freeze dried blueberry", (LOL)
    "predicitable",
    (and my two favorites)
"well, now we know it doesn't take brains to be Governor..."
"thankfully, she could give a darn about rural Alaska..."

My 67 year old auntie says the only difference between Palin and Frank the Bank, is Palin acts like she gives a hoot about all Alaskans.

We ARE held hostage by the clueless wonder's aspirations...

Back in the village, a natural leader arises, naturally. And NEVER at the expense of others. NEVER.

Palin's term isn't over yet. Alaskan's have more tyranny to experience...

It is pleasing to be grilled by my auntie. She expresses fear for me and my little family, "because we live near Palin's hometown."

My auntie is queen of the village. Everyone listens to her. She will never become a chief or a village corp. president, or a healer. She will voice her opinion, yet that opinion will never be at the expense of another human. How she does it, I don't know. It is a true gift.

My auntie calls every other week now. She is fearful for my little family. She happened to see some media coverage about "those chanting crowds that followed Palin around...".

My auntie thinks some of those "hate filled chanting people" will end up traveling to Wasilla. My auntie wants me to pack up and hang out at fish camp till September.

I assure my auntie, over and over again that things will be okay.

And for a week in August, my auntie will visit. Gathering up some store bought winter food supplies, help with harvesting my garden and hopefully catch some silver salmon and halibut, for her to take home and share.

I'm ticked off that Palin's aspirations have created a fear in my auntie.

Like the judge, removing himself from the pending cases and thereby keeping his name in the pool for a higher court, we all must pay for Palin's aspirations. Even my auntie and those fears instilled by the clueless wonder...

    We all pay.

Keep on speaking out. I continually assure my auntie, that my little family north of Wasilla, will be okay. I just keep speaking out, ever so gently, to squash her fear.

As for Palin? Good grief, what a bad joke. Her cult-like following is freaky and will do her more damage than good. Like what hasn't been said about the clueless wonder?

But I'm going to continue to speak out. And I'm darn glad to have you, doing just the same thing.

In closing, last week, auntie and I spoke about Sherry Johnston and her family. We concluded that they need a vacation from everything and anything associated with Palin.

An even better guess would be Talis Colberg.

Gryphen - OT - Is anyone else having problems with this site? I have been, with more & more frequency. Sometimes when going there Internet Explorer goes crazy & keeps opening new pages (34+), sometimes clicking on comments brings up an error that IE cannot open this site, says operation aborted & closes his page & goes to the IE page, which has 3 causes, one of which is the site is encountering problems. Another thing is when I do make it to the Comment Section - that green line across the bottom of IE just keeps refreshing...

  12. So, it would seem that the only Superior Court judge who could hear the e-mail public records cases would be one who is near retirement and has no further ambition to "progress", hm?

Too bad these cases aren't a federal issue.

    Yet.

Palin is going to screw herself into the ground eventually. Let's hope it's before she's "dangerous" to too many more people.

  13. Gryph:

You can pretty much take that logic and apply it to the "independent" lawyers who investigate the ethics complaints. If you've read any of the dismissals, they go through significant legal acrobatics to find ways to dismiss, especially the last one.

Oh, by the way, Petumenos was the one who investigated the kid's travel...basically caused Palin to settle the case and spend $10,000.00 of her own money. Anyone see him investigate one since?

I suspect the judge recused himself for legitimate reasons, and likely at Andree's lawyer's request. Staying on the case would have had the appearance of a conflict of interest, and had he ruled in GINO's favour, would have been Andree's first ground of appeal. He's saving court resources and acting ethically, to boot.

It is considered extremely rude and obnoxious on the internet.

Secondly, please stop ripping people a new one because you don't like what they wrote. You don't even know who they are and frankly, you are rude.

I am on the ANON that you smashed to bits above. I cannot sue Palin because I live 3000 miles away! What could I sue her for. BUT I have written at least 30 or 40 letters to various organizations about her. I am as frustrated as you are, but how dare you tell me off or tell other people off. People do the best they can. MELLOW OUT.

I was just suggesting suing Palin might work because it has worked in South Carolina. But don't ream me out for not doing it. It has to be someone in Alaska.

You might want to take a look at how your postings come across to other people. You are yelling and screaming and acting rude. Or that is how it appears, maybe because you type in all caps like that.

There is no question, though, that people in Alaska can do certain things that out of staters can't.

to be rather chilling. I think that there is a large part of the population that has had dealings with Palin who probably think this exact thing (dangerous) about her and that is disturbing.

People are afraid of her and they don't want to speak out against her because she has the power to hurt them and their families, to destroy lively hoods, careers, homes. That isn't something that anyone with any sense takes lightly.

Okay, for starters, Clarkson is a lawyer, he represents for money that's his job; he also represents for principle, he is, after all, a CHRISTIAN in a major way.

Stowers is a judge, and like Caesar's wife, he must be above reproach. He recused himself because he doesn't want to have the appearance of impropriety, if he comes down on Palin's side of the issue. But beyond that, and, more important than that, he also wants to keep the focus on the case directed at the issues, not at him and his aspirations.

This is the correct and ethical thing for a judge to do in this politically charged atmosphere. Not everyone is a bad guy. Stowers is a good, diligent, fair and competent judge.
