Dede Scozzafava endorses Democrat challenger in New York race.

State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava (R), who dropped from the special election in Upstate New York yesterday, has now thrown her support to Democrat Bill Owens.

"It's not in the cards for me to be your representative, but I strongly believe Bill is the only candidate who can build upon John McHugh's lasting legacy in the U.S. Congress," said Scozzafava in a statement released moments ago.

Well THIS is an interesting new wrinkle.

Now the only question remaining is do the New York Republicans dislike the Democrats MORE, or LESS, than the crazed Teabaggers that have hijacked their party?

This could be the most important vote for NY Republicans in the whole 150 years that they have voted in this district. This could well set a precedent for the many races to come in 2010.

Update: If you have not yet read election prognosticator extraordinaire Nate Silver's take on this race than I suggest that you do.

  1. I honestly think Palin pushed Dede over the edge with that FB post thanking her for quitting the race and ASSuming that meant support for Hoffman.
Had Palin kept her mouth shut, Dede likely would not have thrown her support to Owens. Thanks Sarah!

  2. I just posted this on the other thread but it's more appropriate here. Since Dede's support for Owens, Intrade Prediction Market has downgraded Hoffman's chance of winning from 68 to 50. It would really be something if Dem Owens wins this election.

As I stated two threads back, the moderates in the Republican Party can vote against Hoffman now without hurting the chances of their first choice. Either that, or they can just stay home to spite Hoffman.

Hoffman appears to be cut from the same cloth as Michelle Bachman, Virginia Foxx, James Inhoffe, Sarah Palin, and other imbecilic Republican dim bulbs. However, now it appears that Palin's very un-Midas touch could be fatal to candidates, what does that portend for her role as founding mama of a nascent 3rd rail, er, party?

It is hard to see how the district would be well served by voting in a moronic buffoon like Hoffman. The voters of NY's 23rd district have an opportunity to open up a great big can o' whoop-ass on the wingnuts. Let us hope they avail themselves of this historic opportunity.

    Go 23rd!

People like Dede, who have a conscience to live with, will start stepping up. Being American first, and really putting "country first" !!

If I were in that district and a member of the GOP, I would not look with favor upon a carpet-tea-bagger who doesn't live in my district and is not familiar with key local issues.

Dierdre “Dede” Scozzafava is a life-long North Country resident. I'm feeling that there will be enough locals mad at the carpet-baggers and come out and support one of their own. Fingers crossed... Owen winning will be historic.

Regardless of which candidate you plan to vote for, who do you think will win the special election?

  13. Oopsie. I just looked at the Intrade NY race again. There is small print, not noticed before, that says "any other candidate to win". Not being sure what that means, I may very well have misinterpreted the falling odds in previous comment.

Bottom line...Intrade is saying it's a 50/50 race at present.

Jah Palin got a little head of herself zipping to FB to thank Dede.... Why did she do that?Because she was getting a few headlines with her name plastered on them regarding HoffmanOh she felt like the super star once again (last time it was Death Panel's and Granny and killing po' Trig)So she couldn't contain herselfHer "thankyou" note on FB could of been translated as..I know, I know, people!  No, sit down, enough applause! I know!  Yes, I am great and smart ... Yes I caused Dede to step down.. Yes, I did this and that and that.. yes .. no more autographs..And in that whirlwind of self glee .. she couldn't control her flying bony fingers..Yes Dede, I know I am so great and because of me you had to do the right thing, because you know "I" am right.. yes, I know.. thank you Dede for humbly cowering away because the spotlight is now on me.Ha! I'd love to of seen her face when she got word of Dede doin' her own thang thang "quietly and professionally" .. Palin must of let out a big "What???" Where's my pills?!?!For sure she was hoping for this monumental event with Hoffman to be a major talking point on Oprah..Fingers crossed the Dem wins, the GOP looks like a bunch of nutcases.. and queen nutcase herself looks like the twit she is.. I almost feel sorry for her.. nah

Clearly Sarah is the black widow of politics, but let's not get too invested in this race. THey haven't had a Dem there in houw long? Many voters do not educate themselves about what's going on -- they just go to the polls and pull the lever for their party.

Is HOffman now running on R ticket or is he still the "Conservative" ticket?

Which is a joke since he grabbed hundreds of thousands in earmarks for the hospital he's on the board of, but that's a "conservative' for you. All talk about abortion and small government and no action-- except for crazy teabagging moments.

Fight Palin's religious fascist influence in the NY-23 election by considering a donation to Bill Owens, the Democrat who Dede endorsed. Below is the link for donations through ActBlue for him:

Sarah also has a facebook "note" denying asking Daggett in NJ to set step down, but suggests it might be a good idea...

Interesting comment to her "note" references the link she used which was posted by the independent candidate and not Daggett.

You know getting her facts straight is not one of her strong suits...

Do you think she will apologize to Daggett?

So mature, that Sarah. Why am I picturing her as a nasty ass little girl, terrorizing the other little girls? What a piece of work.

Meanwhile, anyone else notice that it seems like her minders are snoozing on the job? Seems like Sarah (and Meg) are back to their old ways, jumping on any perceived slight and making news of it by addressing it when it might have gone unnoticed if they'd ignored it? Interesting...

Oh, and they are wearing their WalMart Pyjamas, also too.

I know in my heart that Palin IS pulling strings now that can affect this country for years to come, but I can't get past her method, her schoolgirl rhetoric and her mean girl stance.

I just hope that Owens pulls it out in NY23 or we will hear about it for years to come....

Love it, DeDe is "going rogue." Sarah is bound and determined to destroy the Republican Party since she didn't win in 2008. She is dishing out the punishment for the Republicans not getting busy and buying the election for her. She isn't about winning an election, she feels she has an entitlement to office!

Well, lets use Palin's own quote here "Theres a place in Hell for woman who don't support other women". Now, she said she was quoting Madeline Albright, but she wasn't...... Madeline Albright said "there is a place in hell for women who don't help other women".

Now, Palin knew that, so I attribute the quote to Palin. So, by not support Kaye or Dede, I guess she has a place in hell reserved for her......... or does her own words just apply to other women, not herself?

By the way, I don't agree with the quote of course, just sayin.........

Anon at 2:21AM, the redundancy of "also, too" is a JOKE on how Palin speaks. It is done on purpose, and AKPetMom can use it as much as she likes.

@2:21 a.m. - AK PetMom is echoing the rhetoric of Sarah Palin. Did you miss that Palinesque "rhetorical flourish" in the 2008 campaign? She uses it in all her speeches. Mudflats was one of the first to point it out; those of us "in the know" use it to parrot Palin.

Why don't you write to Sarah Palin about it? Clearly, she needs your help as she still uses it, also, too.

I read an AP article this morning and it sounds like Dede is getting thrown under the bus by the Republican party. Newt Gingrich is quoted as saying "I'm very, very let down becaue she told everybody she was a Republican, and she said she was a loyal Republican." The article went on to say that Gingrich was now backing Hoffman. This is pathetic. There was no mention of Hoffman living outside the district or his being unaware of local issues. I hope that the local Repubs are standing by her.
