In Touch Weekly's gamble on Sarah Palin didn't pay off. The magazine paid $100,000 for a cover story on the former Alaska governor and her daughter, Bristol, for the current issue. But, despite Palin's huge book sales and TV ratings, sources said In Touch sold about 500,000 copies on newsstands, about half the number it sold a few weeks ago with the late Brittany Murphy on the cover. Insiders said political covers don't usually sell well for supermarket weeklies. In Touch will return to Hollywood this week with Angelina Jolie on the front page.
The next thing you know Palin will have to start selling pictures of her kids from the back of her Escalade in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Wasilla.
"Polaroids of Bristol, only ten bucks a copy. Come get your pictures of Trig looking adorable right here! Hurry, hurry, these won't last forever, and it is freaking cold out here!"
Gee I wonder if John McCain is aware that his politically disastrous choice for VP is no longer a money magnet?
If he finds out he may want to change his plans about having her come to Arizona and help him hold onto his Senate seat in March.
Update: Gawker and Celebitchy have their own take on this subject. I love this part:
I hope Sarah gave her daughter at least half of that $100,000, which would be enough to move out on her own. Let’s also hope that this news means that we’re going to see less of Palin’s wide-eyed brand of homespun, half-assed conservatism. Palin may have earned a spot on Fox News, but until some more dysfunction comes out from her family she won’t be gracing our gossip magazine covers anytime soon. Her feud with man-boy Levi only goes so far.
In related news, Popeater reports that Palin has Fox pundit Glenn Beck worried that she’s going to take his 5pm news spot on the “Fair and Balanced” network. They quote a source that says “Sarah is the new flavor of the month at Fox. All the bosses love her. She’s an incredibly strong woman who finds a way of getting what she wants,. And Glenn has convinced himself that it’s his 5 p.m. slot that Sarah has her eye on.” We’ll see what happens and if Sarah is a force to be reckoned with. Given her employment record, I have a feeling that she’ll quit her job at Fox once she faces inevitable conflicts.
The fact that Glenn Beck fears for his job because of Sarah Palin is absolutely HYSTERICAL! The two of them will have to have a "paranoia-off". Whoever is the MOST paranoid and terrified of their critics will get to have the 5 pm slot on Fox News.
The new slogan will be "Fox News: Scared and Unbalanced".
This is the only good news today.
ReplyDeleteBut, the Prop8 case in CA seems to be going well for gay rights and NJ passed a medical marijuana bill and 81% of the country is in favor of medical marijuana.
And as we have seen in CA, it is pretty much legal now.
Some progress has occurred for personal freedom.
And I keep hearing that Brown is pro-choice. I am sure he will flip flop if so, but still, it could be true.
It will be interesting to see if her commemorative magazine turned a profit as well. When I saw it on the magazine rack of my local grocery store, I put a hairstyle magazine over her mugshot.
ReplyDeleteI read a comment on another blog that reported hundreds of Going Rogue's in unsold stacks at Costco.
I believe "Game Change" has exposed and damaged her as a contender for POTUS. Now that's not saying she won't run but she won't be able to live down that image we have of her as stupid.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I doubt that I had anything to do with this, but I did turn around 2 copies of the mag while standing on line at a supermarket register.
ReplyDeleteI just couldn't help myself. :)
I loathe her, but I am realistic.
ReplyDeleteShe is now on FAUX - big audience.
I just went to the supermarket - in Los Angeles, NOT in the real Amerikkka. NEW glossy magazine out - "Sarah Palin in Her Own Words." Manager said half are sold. Looks like a glossy, condensed version of her book of lies. Someone is spending big bucks on this lunatic - let's not take her political demise for granted.

ReplyDeleteIt looks like the Sarah Palin's star power is dimming.
----------------------
Tell that to Roger Ailes.
hahahahahahahaha
Next week's "In Touch" is due to have Angelina Jolie on the cover. Let's all buy a copy of it, sending the MSM a message that the Palin family's star is getting dimmer and dimmer.
ReplyDeleteThis getting a lot of coverage:

I read this also on Celebitchy (a gossip blog). It seems that Palin's demographic (older GOP blue-collar men) don't BUY supermarket tabloids. Hopefully this fiasco will keep other similar publications from wasting their money on the Palins.
ReplyDeleteMost of the books sold were bought by conservative news corp such as Faux News....and other right leaning orgs, that's why the numbers were high....faux everything...her popularity is faux...it's all disguised cuz they know their low education sheeple will not stop to question anything...the sheeple believe everything Fox puts out for them to graze on.
ReplyDelete...bahhh....bahhhhh....bahhhh
Just read at the sea of p that she will be on Oprah Friday. Why? She was just there. Her star is fading.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Brown stole her thunder, so today we hear she's stumping for Perry, Bachman,McCain and going on Oprah. All the attention has to be on Sarah.
We are sick of the fake moosechiffoncrap.
ReplyDeleteThe BIG $ money $ is at rum runners, snow-machining or if Bristol actually leaves the tower, at the free clinic, actually buying diapers, tanning, Willow at the movies, basketball? Follow the truth, that is where the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ i$.
We want to see what they are truly up to!!!! THAT IS WHERE THE CASH IS.
Old stars turn into black holes that suck the life out of everything.
ReplyDeleteElla, are you sure it isn't being bought by people who want to rub themselves with it?
ReplyDeleteReceived my copy of Game Change this week and am reading it. Picked through the parts about Osarah first. There is more much about their worry about her mental instability. Seems she always needs her family around her to keep her steady. That's why they were with her through Oct 2008. I too see lots of copies of her book sitting around and on special to rid of it.
ReplyDeleteella -- i agree
ReplyDeleteit might be very hard to find the actual publisher
of that glossy magrag, often that info is buried in
very little type and is the name of a front company
would be interested in knowing who is behind it
Anon @ 1005: It took a while for Going Rogue to show up at our Costco. We go to Costco every payday. 1 month ago, there was a stack of Going Rogue that was eight books by eight books by eight books, and one was missing. Two weeks ago, there were two missing. Nor were the stacks untidy, as other stacks are, showing that people weren't picking them up and looking at them before rejecting them.
ReplyDeleteI suppose it's just barely possible that they sold out and got a new shipment in... but while I was there (and I am an active book-browser at Costco) not one person picked up a single copy of Going Rogue.
We'll be going to Costco on Friday, and I'll look to see if it's there. I've been curious.
LIVE this Friday -- $arah doesn't do live very well.
ReplyDeleteShe's starting to wear out her welcome -- talk about over exposure! Hopefully soon everybody will be tuning out everything and anything PALIN.
THE OPRAH SHOW
Fridays Live with Sarah Palin and Her Daughter Bristol
Sarah Palin talks to Oprah about her new TV gig. Plus, Bristol Palin on life as a single teenage mom, premarital sex and what she wants to say to young girls everywhere.
Brown = Romney
ReplyDeleteROTFFL!! RA MANSOUR!! ROTFFL!!
Her puppeteers will use her up and then discard her like the trash she is.
ReplyDeleteIf John McCain is crazy enough to have Quitter Snowflake help campaign for him, he is begging to be replaced by a Republican thirty years younger (who has a clue).
ReplyDeleteAt the very least he should tell Sarah to leave her brood of assorted kids/grandkids/props home in Wasilla...there would be less chance of trainwreckage, drunken teenagers, pantsless special needs children, unplanned pregnancies, and catfights with Meagan McCain.
Gryph:
ReplyDeleteYou got to check out this YouTube. The teabaggers in Texas got teabagged by teabaggers for Medina who is running for Rep. Gov against incumbent Rick Perry.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC9IvafSI_8&feature=player_embedded
ITA with ella about not taking her political demise for granted. We have all just seen what happens when you take things for granted and become complacent in MA. I am however, delighted to hear that she is going to campaign for John McCain. The old guy has to pander to her bots. And note to Glen Beck, I wouldn't start the tears just yet!
ReplyDeleteTeenagers' are strange creatures and they can and will turn on their parents in a minute if they don't get their way.
ReplyDeleteIf there is any hope for Palin, Levi, and their child, they should write a "Mommy Dearest" book. Can you imagine the movie deal they would get. But more importantly they would be totally independent of Palin. It is nice to dream!
I am with CASH MAC! No one wants to see some creampuff interview cover story with staged photos at a fake firstbirthday party for Tripp. TMZ will pay big bucks for the REAL DIRT. No one cares what Sarah has to say anymore...she says the same stupid shit and sound bytes, over and over , and over again.
ReplyDeleteHer followers will turn on Glenn Beck, and Scott Brown, and any other Republican seen as a perceived threat to her ascendancy to her rightful throne.
I will say it again...the big bucks are out there just waiting for Alaskans to come get them. Why not profit off the Palins? If you Alaskans hadn't elected her governor in the first place, McCain would not have picked her as a VP, and we would have all been spared this nightmare. DO YOUR PATRIOTIC DUTY, AND BRING HER DOWN. Only an Alaskan can do it...you guys owe it to your country.
Newsmax.com is pushing Sarah's book for an incredible $4.97. I just saw their Ad on the TV. You can see her face in the upper left corner of the site. Maybe her book sales have fizzled!

ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what Oprah is up to here--women can see straight through to the "type" that is Sarah Palin and they can't stand her. Oprah's audience is women. She is going to again guest the lunatic who is still enthusiastically fanning the populist, racist, out-of-control craziness that has poisoned political discourse in this country while our (and Oprah's) president tries to steer us away from the wreckage of the previous eight years? Somebody, please enlighten. She does not need to enable this loon.
ReplyDeleteKids are not dumb.
ReplyDeleteBristol Palin is a joke. Oprah has to know that. Do they have a surprise planned?
The kids over 12 get it about re-virgining and the abstinence farce. Remember what happened when S. and B. were abstinent before?
Oh Oprah, what are you thinking? Are you finishing her off?
Where is this "live" show taking place? Will it be the whole hour? How many props?
Ahhh.....Glen Beck never disappoints........LOL:
ReplyDeleteGlenn Beck Scott Brown 'Dead Intern':
Beck Slams Brown For 'Available' Daughters Comments
As Steve Krakauer of Mediaite points out, Glenn Beck's radio show is the Wild West compared to the relative tameness of his Fox News television program.
Beck humorously, but harshly, slammed Scott Brown, Republican winner of the race for Ted Kennedy's old Senate seat in Massachusetts, for proclaiming on national television, during his victory speech, that his two daughters were "available."
Beck launched into a long rant about how Brown had just put his daughters up for grabs on a "meat market" and how shocked he was that anyone could say something like that on national television. Then came that moment that differentiates Beck on the radio from Beck on the TV: he started comparing Brown to Gary Condit.
I want a chastity belt on this man. I want his every move watched in Washington.
I don't trust this guy. This one could end with a dead intern.
I'm just saying. It could end with a dead intern.
Glenn Beck does not pull punches.

Oprah's on her way out...She just wants the ratings and the $$$$...
ReplyDeletewhy not get 2 for one..Doubt she will ask any hard questions...
naw... the crazier beck is the better the ratings people eat this crap up..He's the biggest piece of crap their is...ummm left out limp^ick also too....
"The next thing you know Palin will have to start selling pictures of her kids from the back of her Escalade in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Wasilla."
ReplyDeleteJust like her sister-in-Jeebus idol Kate Gosselin. Hey, Sarah! Kate is currently in FAIL mode--mebbe you're next?
I feel sorriest for the kids (in both families) as a result of their greedy, narcissistic parents. I'm afraid there won't be enough therapy on this planet to cover all of them.
Martha @1:05pm--
ReplyDeleteAmazing that Glen Beck bashed "Pants Down Brown" (nickname seen this morning on HuffPo). Thought Glen'd be drooling all over himself in approval. This sounded edgy to me. Perhaps he's jealous that Brown would eclipse Beck's own hallucinated POTUS try in 2012? Hmmm.
Oh please. When John Stossel moved to Fox they were trying to say "Oh, they're gonna fire that liberal Shep Smith and replace him with John Stossel!" Stossel's doing feature stories on FoxBusiness. Glen Beck isn't worried about his job, he's second only to O'Reilly in ratings on FoxNews.
ReplyDeletePalin will ride the gravy train on Fox and speechifying for all its worth until she's either indited, or her star power has completely burned out.
ReplyDeleteShe needs this money - and wants it more than she needs it, which is saying a lot.
Sarah historically has dislocated older gentlemen. It's part of her sop. Beck did ask her a question and she doesn't like that and he said "bullcrap" or something and she wouldn't like that. So, my guess she'll be taking the O'reilly or the Beck slot. At least when she does her light weight stuff that's when I believe it would air. Enjoy your new cohort there FXN.
ReplyDeleteI seriously doubt that glenn beck is fearing for his job. he's knows she's lazy, she'd never be able to show up to work everyday.
ReplyDeleteanon1005 and Ivy Free:
ReplyDeleteI live in the NY area. It is true Sarah did'nt have a book signing here. I know, we are not "real Americans". Been in several stores where the book is available
Cosco: Pristine stacks at the end of the table.....Untouched
Barnes and Noble.....have been moved to the biography section. No displays.
Wal-Mart- pristine and untouched.
If anyone knows just how many books were bougth by conservative organizations for future promotions, I would love to know.
I am just waiting for her first big faux-pas at Fox. I won't be watching. I will have to read about it here.
Sarah is quickly trying to cash in while her poker is hot. She is after the money and I think, she won't run in 2012. She really doesn't want to work that hard but she loves the $$$. One day, she will awaken and find her family in shreads, her looks sagging, her future dead and then the real breakdown will happen.
ReplyDeleteCatfight at Fox Between Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin
ReplyDeleteAnother World Wrestling Federation show.
$arah need$ Fox mulah and Fox need$ rating$ mulah.
ReplyDeleteOprah is either going to ignore the Bristol/props shield and rip them a new one or she has lost her mind and heart.
That article came pretty close, but I had to make one correction -
ReplyDelete"... Sarah is a farce to be reckoned with."
I will not be watching Oprah and if her ratings dip because of Sarah and Bristol that would be a sure way of letting Sarah know we're just not that into her.
ReplyDeleteSo how about not watching Oprah and letting her know we aren't thrilled with her guests, The Queen of Mean and the born-again virgin daughter.
Like I said earlier... a virus has been introduced into the Fox network. Its name is Sarah.
ReplyDeletePoll from Popeaters:

Speaking of Sarah going to AZ: You might find this blog interesting.
ReplyDeletehttp://seeingredaz.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/sarah-palin-burning-her-conservative-bridges/
"It is thought that Palin’s appeal among conservatives — who are not McCain fans – will wrest votes away from former Republican Congressman J.D. Hayworth, currently hosting a popular drive-time radio program — if Hayworth decides to challenge the veteran senator.
A year-end Rasmussen Reports survey showed McCain in a virtual dead heat with the undeclared J.D. Hayworth. And a startling 61% of Arizona Republicans told pollsters that McCain is out of touch with the party base.
McCain’s fear is palpable. Sarah’s defection is damaging."
For a fun--politics makes for strange bedfellows moment--pay particular attention to the Juan Hernandez links at the end of the article.
