Sarah Palin calls Rachel Maddow "prejudice" and claims that Rand Paul was victim of "gotcha moment".

From Huffington Post:

Speaking to "Fox News Sunday," the 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee said that Paul was being subjected to the same biased media coverage that marked her run for office, before offering her Tea Party-backed candidate a bit of advice.

"One thing we can learn in this lesson that I have learned and Rand Paul is learning now is don't assume that you can engage in a hypothetical discussion about constitutional impacts with a reporter or a media personality who has an agenda, who may be prejudiced before they even get into the interview in regards to what your answer may be," Palin said. "You know, they are looking for the gotcha moment. And that evidently appears to be what they did with Rand Paul, and I'm thankful he clarified his answer about his support for the Civil Rights Act."

This once again illustrates that Sarah Palin, despite her supposed degree in journalism, believes that any real substantive question from a journalist who is not ogling her legs or trying to look down her blouse is engaging in "gotcha journalism".   This is why she avoids all REAL reporters like the plague and sticks with the pretend journalists at FAUX News.

And her contention that Rachel Maddow trapped Doctor Paul is absolutely ridiculous.  In fact Rachel offered him numerous opportunities to clarify his answer and stop digging himself into a pit, and he simply could not stop making it worse for himself.  And his problems were not the result of simply the one interview. He did the same thing to himself over, and over again.

If Rand Paul follows Palin's advice and avoids the media he is finished in national politics.  So....go for it Rand!

By the way Palin also makes a comment that supports the prediction I made in the post just below this one about how the Republicans are going to go after President Obama on the BP oil fountain (It really cannot honestly be described as a "spill".)

"I don't know why the question isn't asked by the mainstream media and by others if there is any connection with the contributions made to President Obama and his administration, and the support by the oil companies to the administration," Palin added, "If there is any connection there to President Obama taking so dog-gone long to get in there and dive in there and grasp the complexity and the potential tragedy that we are seeing here in the Gulf of Mexico."

Can you believe a Republican from ALASKA is asking the question of whether or not the oil companies have undue influence over our politicians? That is such a heavy does of hypocrisy that I don't think I can absorb any more for the rest of this week.

P.S. Okay I cannot leave this post without taking a moment to share my all time favorite Sarah Palin fantasy.  (God no it's not sexual!)  It is that she would have a brain fart and allow herself to be interviewed by the amazing Rachel Maddow!  I would be willing to give up three of my favorite things for six months in exchange for witnessing that!

Great post Gry. Palin is a tool, for sure. And she still doesn't interview very well...saying Uh so much of the time. At one point, Chris looked glazed over, listening to her ramble. I liked that.

It's a situation made for a comedy reality show. Now we have one doofus defending another doofus against the big, bad media. While I don't like that fact that the media often doesn't correct Palin's asinine statements, I DO like the fact that it has exposed both of these clueless wonders for what they are. Neither one of them has any business being voted even as a dog catcher. They both like to bash the president, but neither has any kind of solution to offer other than the empty platitude about smaller government. With her long-known support from oil companies, Palin is the last person who should be throwing rocks from a glass house.

It's a sad commentary on what the Republican Party has come that they embrace morons like these two. Just like she blames Rachel Maddow
for "trapping" Paul, who dug his hole deeper every time he said anything, she still blames Katie Couric for the hole she dug for herself. When she gave later interviews, she dug the hole deeper, which helped to keep her from becoming VP and helped the rest of us to dodge a bullet.

I knew it wouldn't be long until she started blaming the lame-stream media. This wasn't a gotcha moment, or a gaffe - this is the very very scary way Rand Paul thinks! He already canceled his appearance on Meet the Press. Sarah on Rachel's show, can you just imagine?? She can't even handle questions by a reporter as she walks through the airport with Trig, her media shield.

Let's see, Rand Paul is the one who said that he would appear on Meet the Press, before he backed out. Someone told him that his is not ready for Prime Time.

As for fact checking, Sarah often plays fast and loose with the facts. "Here I am again, sitting in borrowed clothes," and "I paid $300. for this tie dyed hippy outfit." I don't think that Sarah want's to be fact checked by Rachel.

Sorry, yes she does. She will stand on her head and recite the Constitution backwards if it gets her in the media.

In Alaska's past didn't they discriminate against native Alaskans. How did that discrimination thingy work $arah with your token husband. Being black, my life has been to overcome racism. $arah you make me take a step back and question my belief and life because I would in Alaska love to say "no Palins allowed".

I think you overlooked the money quote in her inteview this morning. She basically told us she'll be running for President. Sure, she couched it in that coy " if my country needs me, I'll run" way. Palin is an egotistical narcissist. Of course she'll decide her country needs her. And she will be unable to resist the opportunity to be on the stage equal to Obama. I think if she runs, she'll be the Republican nominee unless someone gets the dirt about her. Oh, and if it turns out her abstinent daughter is knocked up again. I think if she is, Palin will lose the family values crowd. Even they won't be able to rationalize the hypocrisy.

Instead of always blaming the liberal media for tricking them into having gotcha moments, maybe right-wing conservatives should study up on the issues and actually read the constitution. Then they wouldn't have anything to worry about.

I read the politico comments on this story, Politico is right leaning, but very few of the comments were sarah leaning. She would never have guts enough to be interviewed by Rachel Maddow. Wasn't this interview conducted by the guy that wanted Sarah to sit on his lap? As far as oil contributions, she is using Rovian Projection, accuse your opponent of what you are doing.

Palin is attempting to neutralize her biggest problem, exposure via media, by exploiting Rand Paul as a proxy victim. It might work. But, Sen. Joe McCarthy was eventually countered by some valiant journalists. And the many skeletons in the Palin closet are dangling withing reach.

Maddow understands the Palin game plan. Maddow will probably give a few gentle warnings (hardly visible except to the Palin camp). I'll be watching for them.

i saw rachel's interview with rand - she even went without commercials to give him a chance to clarify his wingnut views, which he did himself with very little prompting. there was no prejudice. and what kind of "prejudice" does the half term, half baked alaska governor mean? or does she not understand the meaning of the word?
rachel's show is fantastic and has made a great impact so far in that she starts conversations that matter, and backs them up with fact. her conversations don't always have legs in our often idiotic msm, but many people watch or at least hear about them.
on the other hand, anyone who uses the word "dog-gone" in what is supposed to be a serious political discussion ought never to be taken seriously. about anything.
if it weren't for fox, sarah would be burnt toast already. i believe she is exhibiting yet again her insecurity and jealousy of another female who is more accomplished and respected than she is. and a lesbian at that (fake shock and horror). what's next, losing to a black president?!?.... ohhh....

In my short life and limited wisdom, one thing I have learned is that the more you get to know someone, the more you like them or at the very least, if they have done much bad you come away with an understanding of why things went like that. I've never come away from reading a detailed biography or autobiography and not admired the subject or had empathy for the subject. But the more and more I discover about ms palin, the more my faith in humanity is shaken and I am beginning to believe there is much evil in her. This is why gryphen and palingates etc are so important. This woman is hellbent on being the most powerful person in the world and will stop at nothing. In 2016 or 2020 who knows? All I know is that lives will be lost if this woman gets what she wants, and maybe worse.

Poll: Rand Paul Surges Ahead of Palin Among Voters Who Describe Themselves as Morons...

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/andy-borowitz/poll-rand-paul-surges-ahe_b_585888.html

MINNEAPOLIS - (The Borowitz Report) - In a sign of his increasing prominence in the so-called Tea Party movement, a new poll shows Kentucky senatorial candidate Rand Paul topping former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin among voters who describe themselves as morons.

In the poll, conducted by the University of Minnesota's Opinion Research Institute, 42% preferred Paul, 36% preferred Palin, and the remaining 22% were unsure what the word "prefer" meant.

According to Davis Logsdon, who supervised the poll for the University of Minnesota, Paul's surging popularity among morons is bad news for Palin, who previously had a lock on that important constituency.

"I never thought I'd say that, but if Palin is going to stay competitive with Paul, she's going to have to start dumbing down her message."

She has a point, but it goes much farther than our current crisis, our government has been influenced not only by oil money but by the presence of so many oilmen/people that hold political office.
"Oil: The Bushes' ties to John D. Rockefeller and Standard Oil go back 100 years"
    http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0208-05.htm

But while sarah complains about Obama being influenced by oil money McCain got $2,402,937 in 2008 for his presidential campaign from big oil! Almost 3 time what they contributed to Obama!

Rachel goes out of her way to give interviewees an out. She rephrases their statements back to them multiple times, with an, "is this what you are saying?" lead-in for them to make any changes or challenges. I would love to see ol' Sarah sit through a Rachel interview. Won't ever happen, but it is nice to fantasize about Sarah's word salad being put through a garbage disposal.

This is absurd, she is calling Rachel Maddow a TV personality, when she is probably the best journalist on tv right now. Sarah is absolutely right this time. Rachel Maddow trapped Rand Paul into confessing his real agenda. Likewise, if Palin ever submitted to be interviewed by Maddow she would trap Palin into confessing her true agenda only Palin would destroy her credibility worse than Paul did. For that reason Palin will never be interviewed by Maddow or anyone else for that matter who is not pro-right and pro-libertarian.

This is a must read (hypocrite of the week award):
    http://blog.buzzflash.com/honors/252

And, LOVE this response to SP from Gibbs:
"Sarah Palin says she is still a "big supporter of offshore drilling" despite the massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill that is threatening the environment and the economy, though she adds that oil companies should be held accountable for their actions.

On Fox News Sunday, the former Alaska governor drew a link between the Obama administration's response to the spill and what she cast as President Obama's cozy relationship with oil companies tied to their support for his presidential campaign.

Later, on CBS' "Face the Nation," host Bob Schieffer asked White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs to respond to Palin's claim about the Obama administration's relationship with oil companies.

"Sarah Palin was involved in that election, but I don't think, apparently, was paying a whole lot of attention," Gibbs said. "I'm almost sure that the oil companies don't consider the Obama administration a huge ally - we proposed a windfall profits tax when they jacked their oil prices up to charge for gasoline."

"My suggestion to Sarah Palin would be to get slightly more informed as to what's going on in and around oil drilling in this country," he added.

Following Gibbs' suggestion that she "get slightly more informed," Palin tweeted: "Mr. Gibbs, BP gave over $3.5mill to federal candidates over the past 20 years, with with the largest amount going to Obama," linking to a Politico story citing data from the Center for Responsible Politics.

During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records.

Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt dismissed the suggestion of undue influence by BP in the same Politico story, from May 5:

"President Obama didn't accept a dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists during his presidential campaign," spokesman Ben LaBolt said. "He raised $750 million from nearly four million Americans. And since he became president, he rolled back tax breaks and giveaways for the oil and gas industry, spearheaded a G20 agreement to phase out fossil fuel subsidies, and made the largest investment in American history in clean energy incentives."

According to Open Secrets.org, BP's campaign contributions during the 2008 election cycle were $214,915 to Democrats, and $315,909 to Republicans (about 40/60), split almost evenly between individual contributions and PACs.

According to the National Institute on Money in State Politics, during Palin's 2006 run for Governor in Alaska (where the large majority of donations came from individuals), BP America made the fifth-largest donation by a company to her campaign, contributing $4,650, with BP Alaska giving an additional $250."

Typical Palin gibberish. When she was running for governor, and the subject of abortion was raised, she didn't want to talk about it- and share her views- because it was a "divisive" subject.

Here's what she told the Anchorage Daily News reporter: "In a cell phone conversation later in the day, she said the Knowles camp is looking to be divisive by raising the abortion issue. Her stance is clear, she said. “I’m going to respect the sensitivity and the privacy aspects of this issue and as governor, I will abide by the laws that have been interpreted by the Supreme Court.”

I asked, if the opportunity arose as governor for her to ban abortion, would she?
Her response: “Theoretical, hypothetical questions that have to do with a subject like this, that are being led by a campaign in order to divide, it’s unfortunate. That’s my final comment on it.”

Sort of like theoretical, hypothetical questions like should black people be served in restaurants.

Sneaky sociopath Sarah actually thinks she can run for President without doing any serious interviews. Fox does not count- she is an employee. We can't let her get away with it! At least Rand had the guts to do the interview and he was honest about his opinions. His opinions aren't surprising given he's a libertarian.
