The daughter has landed! I repeat, the daughter has landed!

Late last night I finally got a text from my angel, after TWO DAYS of no contact, telling that she was in Alaska and had finally received cell phone service again.

She has arrived safely in Tok, Alaska, and after getting a little rest will be headed down to Anchorage.  So I guess I can finally breathe now.

Thank you for all of your kind thoughts and positive energy.

Tomorrow I am going to load up my car and drive us all to the Alaska State Fair for some Gryphen style family bonding, some truly horrific deep fat fried foods, and some carnival ride induced nausea.  If you happen to be there as well I will be the one with the huge smile on my face and the empty wallet.

Namaste my friends.  It is going to be a GREAT weekend!

(The picture shows the light of my life in 1990 when she was the tiny blond haired little angel that my heart still sees today.)

So happy she arrived safely--I understood your concern and nail-biting worry, for sure. I'm jealous, though, I'd LOVE to make that trip by car! What an adventure. Enjoy your time together and what an ADORABLE pic of The Daughter!

I was praying that she would arrive safe and sound, and she has! I know why and how you worry. My daughter's fiancé lives in Alabama, and I'm on pins and needles all of the time she is away.

Have a great time this weekend. Your daughter is beautiful. It's funny how, no matter how old our kids get, we still remember when they were young and totally dependent on us. I do the same thing with my adult "baby." Like yourself, she's the only "baby" I have. Take care, and shower her with lots of that wonderful fatherly love you have waiting for her.

I'm so happy for you and your daughter!
Enjoy the fair. And remember; deep fried dough with powdered sugar on it is our friend.

What a relief for you, Gryphen. Have fun.

As a parent, I think back on all the things I did to my parents--like wandering through Asia and Africa as a 21-year-old girl, with no contact with them for months except for letters that were already weeks old when they arrive, and I wonder how they stood it.

Forget $carie this weekend and have a great time. She's adorable in that pic and most likely more so now.

have fun... enjoy the fair and your daughter being there.

Levi interview on CBS was bad... see if you can win him some brains and charisma at the fair's arcade.

Great news! Your joy leaps right out of your post. Now go have some fun, forget about SP and focus on what's really important, we can live without you for a few days!

What a sweet and heartfelt post. Yes, daughters have that special power over us: we look at them, know they are all grown up, and MELT anyway.

I must add that I LOVE your blog because it gives me hope. I live in New Jersey (short on, according to SP, "real Americans, I suppose) but love to know what's really going on all over this now-fractured country. Keep up the terrific work.

Yay! It's great to hear that your daughter is home and you two have some fun, if er, tummy challenging plans ahead.

All of your love (and maybe our prayers), and, of course, your daughter's skill and determination brought this happy conclusion.

It's magical. Wishing you a great time together.

    I feel your relief!

Yeah, go have a great time and forget about all this craziness.

When you get back Palin will still be in the spotlight, just where you left her.

So very happy for you Gryphen!

We, too, know the joy of having the daughter land back in our loving arms. Gosh, where does the time go?

We don't have to wish you a happy weekend, that will be automatic once you lay your eyes upon her!

    Namaste. Blessings be.

Enjoy your time with your precious daughter, they grow up too fast and get their own family, but little girls always put daddy first, even after their married.

  31. Dang Gryphen, I'm a self proclaimed hardass that loves furry critters much more than human children, but darn it, that photo of your daughter is so cute that it makes me lament my decision not to have children!!

Glad to hear that she made it back to AK safely; I was thinking about it for the last few days, wondering how her great adventure was going.

Have fun at The Fair, and if you go to Palmer make sure you stop by the Visitor Center garden and check out the display

Well, that's a relief. I remembered her in my prayers every day and was going to send you a book about the building of the Alcan, to celebrate the journey - but then I read a bit of it and realized that the true story would just scare the pants off anyone driving it (and those who love them).
