Christians in Tennessee caught acting like Christians.

After all of the divisive language and hate speech over the last month is is so nice to see a story of real humanity that reminds of just how GOOD people can be when their leaders inspire them to love instead of hate.

Yes I am talking to you Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck!

    Thanks for sharing--fantastic.

Btw, they're in Tennessee, not Texas.

My husband and I both teared up watching this.

How wonderful to see "Christian" love in practice and how sad that it is so rare in the U.S. that it makes the news.

FWIW, my husband is a recovering Catholic and I grew up unchurched, wandered through many Christian denominations, and flirted with Buddhism, before finding my home in the natural ebb and flow of the moon and the seasons.

After years of seeking, studying religions, denominations, and dogma as well as reading the wisdom books, I'm convinced that the strongest force is love and if one cannot love, it is important to at least be kind. The cruelest people I have ever known have all loudly proclaimed their Christianity.

    Thanks for posting this, Gryphen.

I think Memphis is in Tennessee, not Texas. They would probably not be that well received in Texas.

Caught that on statewide news, but didn't realize it had been picked up nationally. I am so glad for that. Wish it had gotten an even larger play, and maybe it will. That truly is what it's all about, IMHO. Thanks for sharing it, Gryph.

(There was a preacher in Springfield, TN and one in Nashville that were promising to burn Qurans in support of the FL nutjob. Haven't heard if they did. Hope not.)

Hmmm, very warm and cosy. Almost had me believing you might start to practise what you preach. Now find a mirror and repeat after me,"Palins, I love you all."

    Gryphen,

Watching Christian Amanpour right now and she asked the Iman that is building the community center near Ground Zero what he thinks about SARAH PALIN's tweet. You know the one about peaceful muslims. That her name even mentioned out of Christian's mouth burns me. That hateful woman.

Thanks so much for posting that. I want to believe that these people represent the unreported norm.

The Heartsong Church and the Memphis Islamic Center should be the example for both religions to follow.

What a wonderful story of two different faiths following the true heart of their respective faiths!

This is what makes me proud to be an American, not the hate and shouting.

Thank you for spreading the word on this story.

  12. Thanks for the correction everybody.

See, this is why I don't put out more expansive posts before my first cup of coffee kicks in? My brain cells are still getting up, wiping the sleep dust out of their eyes, and looking for their pants.

By the way I will start writing my Palin/Miller/Beck 9-11 post in an hour or so.

Hopefully all of my synapses will be functioning effectively by then.

The big difference between this church and those that preach hate is that this minister is using the Bible and the teachings of Jesus as his only guide instead of political ideology. All this hate has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with conservative politics -- and the preachers who push that idealogy from the pulpit.

Maybe we should ship Korans to Palin's home on the dead lake and flag all those passages about Jesus the Prophet and his virgin birth. Won't Palin be surprised to find out that Jesus was a Christian Muslim Jew.

I think 6:49 says it all with the comment that the actual practice of Christianity is a news-making event.

I grew up "unchurched" as well and have also wandered through various Christian denominations. I have not yet found my home, as much as I would like one. It isn't that I find the "unholy" secular world so tantalizing; it's more that I find many "Christians" so unpalatable. So much for being tempted by the "Devil."

The beauty of this is that it represents America at its very best. As quiet as it's kept, there are plenty of people doing the right thing quietly and without fanfare. That's why it's important not to mix religion and politics, because it always produces a nasty brew. What Palin likes to proclaim she is, these people really are. As they have proven, actions speak louder than words.

What good news to see that there are still remaining some Christians worthy of the name; these are people who actually practice what their namesake set out as an example. I sent them an email of thanks and I hope they get thousands, since I'm sure they will also become a target of the haters. I have a feeling they won't be dissuaded, though.

Thank you for bringing that to our attention, Gryphen.
