Holy crap am I glad to be back in Anchorage!
Those people are very odd.
It had the feel of a religious event more than a political one, with lots of singing, and praying, and emotion filled speeches. Have you ever felt like the ONLY sane person in the room? Yep me too!
The Mayor was there, Joe Miller was there, a Right Wing radio shock jock was there....
Oh and this lady was there.
So close I could even get this picture using my I-Phone.
Yes, of course there is much, much more to tell, but it is going to have to wait until tomorrow, because I promised to take my kid out to dinner and then we are heading over to the Dena'ina Center to make some more trouble.
Ahh a blogger's work is never done!
I eagerly await your report, Gryphen.
ReplyDeleteMay the light and truth of the Anchorage protesters shine tonight - may your light eclipse the darkness of the black souls that define Palin, Beck and their crazy cult followers.
Dinner for you and your daughter is on me tonight (sending via paypal) with appreciation for all you do.
Gryph -- you tease! Please say "hi" to your kid from all of us!!!
ReplyDeleteRock the house and stay safe. Looking forward to your report!
ReplyDeleteOooh, Sarah didn't pay for the real security guards. Or she forgot to make her list.
ReplyDeleteHello to your daughter. We can wait. She comes first. I know, because mine does too. Namaste.
ReplyDeleteella that is nice of you. I think I will give Gryphen a bit myself
ReplyDeleteHugs to your and your daughter. I'll wait for your report of the circus.
ReplyDelete~trish
You called her a 'lady'.
ReplyDeleteHehehe.
Seriously, thanks for checking in. I'm looking forward to your impressions of the day.
why is Alaska Dispatch insisting it was a surprise appearance. I thought it was common knowledge that she would show up there.
ReplyDeletethanks for the boots on the ground report, G.
Ella, how sweet you are! I know you're right around the corner from me ... maybe I can treat you to coffee or lunch some day soon :)

So we dressed my American Indian relative up as a white man and sent him off to the Wasilla rally. Please white folks, take no offense. We mean no offense at all. We are dealing with the patriot group out in Wasilla. We live out here. Experience dictates that the indigenous must protect themselves. Going incognito means less rude comments and rude shoves won't happen.
ReplyDeleteThe report I got was there was guns, bibles and prayer. In that order. Also, it seemed like there was more time spent milling around or basically attempting to get close to "worst govenor ever", than honoring those that lost their lives in the Twin Towers. He said the singing filled in the gaps.
After gathering in the federally funded sports center, they started to drive to Anchorage on the federally funded Parks Highway.
More later. You have a good dinner. Enjoy.
Huh. Lady, my eyeball. That's no lady. You are overtired, methinks.:)
ReplyDeleteShe must have a new bumpit; it's reaching for the ceiling, I see.
Is that a maternity top she has on? Left over from the fakeout days, maybe.
Her sense of style has a few issues; even I can tell that and I'm pretty far down on the style meter myself.
Be careful this evening. Some of those people don't sound safe to me; the vindictiveness is surely at record high there.
There is no style going on there... that is her "I'm a holy lady, damn near a nun, worship me" black shroud for just such occasions as this.
ReplyDeleteWe are counting on you to give us insider look :) and btw, how come $P didn't recognize you ? She remembered to ban you before and now she is not so concerned much? she is one of a kind:)
ReplyDelete"You've done a man's job, sir."

I understand. Doing something normal and loving with your daughter helps cleanse the stink of the unholy and get a decent perspective. I hope you both have a wonderful evening and I look forward to your report.
ReplyDeleteHey Gryph -- I too am donating some toward dinner for you and your daughter (btw, welcome home, daughter)-- have a wonderful dinner and a great time.
ReplyDeleteYou are so appreciated for all you do, and 'put up with' for all of us!!! Thank you very much. Take care and stay safe.

So no presidential bid announcement, huh? Guess I lost that bet. Who knew I'd lose betting that Sarah Palin has no class?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the report. Can't wait for part 2. I hope the you & your lovely daughter have a wonderful dinner before the KKK rally.
ReplyDeletePlease be careful. We need you.

ReplyDeleteHere's a link to a bunch of ANTI-palin and ANTI-beck signs from the Alaska rally
http://www.alaskadispatch.com/dispatches/politics/6774-protesting-palin-and-beck-alaskas-other-911-rally-
Wait: You're exposing your daughter to Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck??? That's it! I'm calling the authorities...that's child abuse!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous @6:37,
ReplyDeleteThe night's not over yet. The showstop with beer garden is just starting in Anchorage.
Anon @ 5:57 - no offense taken from this Alaskan, know how Natives are looked at by most Valley folk, but fully appreciate their are always a number as the exception to the rule. Gryphen being there means many other progressives were incognito to report events. Quyana.
ReplyDeleteWell said about the fed funds. Hypocrites clinging to their guns, religion and Sarah Idol worship.
Three hundred people, really? In Fox News reporting will it be 3,000?
ReplyDeleteHa ha, Phil Munger says a tupperware sale would draw a hundred more warm bodies in.
Lady? Huh? Where?
ReplyDeleteLooks to me like Paylin is getting ready to tell the world that she is again with child...thanks BP!
Of course the daughter could not POSSIBLY be preggers....why EVERYONE in the whole WORLD saw her dancing on TV. :)
After calling you a "tease" earlier, I'm adding some for dinner, too!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear about the disaster. An anti-Beck/Palin rally draws 80-100 people. A rally for Beck and Palin sells 3800 tickets for prices between $74 and $250.
ReplyDeleteYep. Alaskans really showed their disdain for the Whoer from Wasilla, didn't they?
The real fun is going to compare the discrepancies between Gryphen's eyewitness account and the members of the press--left, right, and international--that attended the event.
Eighty to 100 protesters? NowTHAT's a shot that will be heard around the world--or at least to Skagway.
"Did you ever feel like the only sane person in the room?"
ReplyDeleteOnce. It was a reaction to anesthesia. The gas passer said the feeling I had--if it was in the absence of the sodium pentathol--was identical to that paranoids feel.
It went through my mind too that top was a maternity top. Worn to cover a bullet-proof vest? Or prepartion for another kid with a case of mono? I would have expected Sarah to be in something more revealing for "patriot" crowd.
ReplyDeleteIs it too much to hope that somebody comes up with at least an audio tape of speeches at the Anchorage rally. Stay safe.
8:41, that drug-induced paranoia you felt cannot be compared to the feelings Gryphen experienced among the sea hysterical Beck/Palin fans.
ReplyDelete8:36, 3,800? is that all?
ReplyDeleteella - beautifully said!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link, Leah. I was glad to see more than 50% of the "protest" signs were FOR peace and harmony, and not necessarily AGAINST Peck & Bailin. Pretty classy, IMO.
ReplyDeleteI'll chip in for dinner too, Gryphen. I appreciate all you do to keep us informed.
Protesting Palin and Beck: Alaska's other 9/11 rally
ReplyDeletehttp://www.alaskadispatch.com/dispatches/politics/6774-protesting-palin-and-beck-alaskas-other-911-rally-
sarahs lookin tubby...and that sweater thing is matronly
ReplyDeleteThe Boston Herald, of all right-wing rags, put me to shame. While people are profitting and protesting, here's what a few real, living victims have to say:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bostonherald.com/news/regional/view/20100911911_victims_kin_blast_shameful_circus_say_protests_distract_from_solemn_day/srvc=home&position=0
Most of the day I've been concerned about what that gruesome twosome are up to. Don't get me wrong - it is something to be very concerned about. However, I've had only fleeting thoughts about that day; mostly about what I felt at that time. I'm truly ashamed of myself.
I don't think it'll ease my conscience much, but while I have my credit card out, I'm matching my dinner donation with http://heart911.org/
Thanks, by all means dinner with family is a priority. Thanks for all you do.
ReplyDeleteI was at the Beck/Palin protest tonight 7:10-8:30 with sign. The lines to get in stretched around the block each direction, so I'm confident they had 4000+ resulting in the last to get in about 20 minutes late. We had far more protesters than the earlier one at the Park Strip, but I didn't try counting. I’m sure pics will be posted later, but have to say that the most taken of us were by those in line which was rather humorous. Some attendees were openly annoyed with us, but many just seemed uncomfortable. Mayor Sullivan was a bit red-faced as he scurried in.
ReplyDeleteMy immediate observation on arrival was the pure vanilla flavor of the line filing in. While the merry crowd of protesters was a truly diverse lot, the lack of minorities in line was jarring, even considering the event. My social worker friend was equally stunned, so we made a point of walking the line in search of anyone darker than John Boehner. Though we no don’t missed a few, our total count was a mere six! I think it is same to say that no more than 20 out of 4000+ were minorities. I actually gave a call out a few times as I walked the line, “Any minorities here?” in an attempt to raise their consciousness, to which I received a couple retorts, “You’re white.” Well, yes I am, but minorities amongst the protesters likely ran 40-50%.
The coordinator urged all to be gone before the event ended, as booze was being served and supposedly some were packing heat (although I didn’t observe any). I hope someone can give us an idea of what went on inside, but I can say we had a good time on the outside. The best was when a chant went up, “Real Alaskans don’t quit!”
And more interesting photos here:

Re: "3800 is that all?"
ReplyDeleteYeah--out of 4,500 the place holds.
From KTUU:
"TV personality Glenn Beck and former Gov. Sarah Palin, both popular and controversial figures on the national stage, took an Anchorage stage for a rally at the Dena’ina Center Saturday night with a packed house inside."
You do the math. The paying customers nuimbered almost 4,000, the protestors about 100--that's a 40-1 ration in her favor in a state that we're
supposed to believe now detests her.
Anonymous @ 8:41
I agree. The typical level of Paranoia Gryphen feels cannot be approached by any drug cocktail of anesthesia. You have to see racism, deceit, and evil around every bend in the round to understand Gryphen's state of mind.
I was at the noon rally on the Park Strip, I would say about 100 people...I was trying to do a quick count. And I went to the De'naina protest tonight.....many, many more people...I would guess 250-300 but it was hard to tell....when you are in the middle of it , it is hard to estimate. Lots of good clean fun, great signs...many about peace, tolerance and love, not Peck/Bailin'. Great energy. I did not see one single sign in support of Beck/Palin....not one.
ReplyDeleteThe people in line were pretty silent and I think shocked to see such a good showing of protesters standing within feet of where they had to walk to get into the building. It was tight quarters and probably a bit intimidating. My favorite chant this evening..."REAL Alaskans don't QUIT!"
A great evening. ;0)
Well, 9:45, 3800 people weren´t there but 3800 tickets were purchased. Many of them by SarahPAC to avoid a fatal ¨loss of face.¨ The bots are working in overdrive to keep Sarah going. They´ve been reduced to blowing up photos and counting the actual heads at the Wasilla disaster. Damn, that complex looked like an empty echo chamber. We know Sarah has traveled with a 19 member entourage. How many ¨heads¨ at the Wasilla failure were really staff and relatives? Keeping up appearances must be getting pricey for Sarah.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gryph.
ReplyDeleteIs Sarah pregnant or did she really gain weight from filming this summer?
ReplyDeletefyi, they have 1 more ep to shoot for Discovery
Sarah seems to be wearing preggo faking/disguising clothes. She's starting earlier this time, gearing up for another daughter pregnancy?
ReplyDeleteGryphen, since you were so close to $P, were you able to see what is wrong w/ her face? If Bree Palin's site were still online, we could compare to similar shots from the 2009 book tour. There is a huge lump at the lower side of $P's right jaw again. They tried to cover w/ tons of base & blush but it's very evident in Alaska Dispatch photos. Plastic surgery mishap or something more serious? You can even see it stick out from the side in profile. The woman is not well.
ReplyDeleteWhere's her wedding ring ?
ReplyDeleteAlso, she should have had Botox in her hands too, they look like Skeletor or a Halloween decoration.
Also sending a little something via Paypal Gryphen (long overdue), thanks for all you do.
I just know that one morning I am going to wake up, check into this site, and see a big picture of Sarah and Todd in handcuffs, doing the 'perp walk' into a federal court building to face charges on all their illegal deeds over the years.
It's just a matter of time.
Looking forward to your report Gryphen! BTW, these reports about alcohol being served at this "religious event" are a little weird. All the evangelicals and Mormons I know don't drink, beck Mormons don't even drink caffeine!
ReplyDeleteHell, I don't blame them, I know I would have to be liquored up to listen to the "gruesome twosome" (awesome BTW, Annie G).
And, how many tickets were bought by infiltrators like Gryphen, AKM, Wonkette reporter, etc.
How wierd that she poses with everybody else's kid and compeletely ignores her own. That look of Piper's pleading look for attention was heartbreaking yesterday.
ReplyDeleteAlso too, I think the Beck bulletprrof vest in DC (and probably there as well) was either security protocol for large rallies or just them spinning their BS about Christians being in danger by practicing their faith (since they're so discriminated against ya know....). And the guvment is after him ya know since he is such the prophet to the people and the "secular elite" wants to shut him up.
What a bunch of crap.
If you think only the wealthy, the elite few, should prosper - then vote Republican.
ReplyDeleteIf you think the millionaires (like Sarah and Glenn) and billionaires (like Rupert Murdoch and the Koch brothers) need a tax cut - vote Republican.
The Bush administration oversaw the largest redistribution of wealth from the middle class to the elite class in our country's history. If you think that is how things should be - then vote Republican.
That is what the Republicans have said they will do: continue to move all the money to the richest few. That is the Republican platform: more and more for the rich - less and less for you and your kids.
Vote.
8:36, Those 3800 people were there to see Beck, not Palin.
ReplyDeleteNobody denies that Beck's got one heck of a following. His viewership numbers attest to that.
As for Pain, well, her polls are falling and they even had to cancel a event for lack of interest. Jeez, there's even a lack of interest in protesting her... as the 80 to 100 protestors show.
12:04, so they didn't even sell out?
ReplyDeleteI don't doubt that there are at least 4500 idiots in Alaska. So what? They don't speak for the entire state. Many more than that probably DO detest Palin. She's just such a nothing that they couldn't be bothered to get out and protest her.
