Republicans pulling their hair out as Teabagger backed candidate Christine O'Donnell knocks off another "sure thing" Republican. Update: O'Donnell's MTV anti-masturbation message.

From the Fix:

"We congratulate Christine O'Donnell for her nomination this evening after a hard-fought primary campaign in Delaware," said National Republican Senatorial Committee executive director Rob Jesmer in a terse statement released after the race was called.

The O'Donnell victory, which was considered a political impossibility as recently as a month ago, is a major boost for Democratic hopes of holding the seat once held by Vice President Joe Biden. New Castle County Executive Chris Coons was unchallenged for the Democratic Senate nomination.

Well depending on whether O'Donnell can win in the general, this will either be a feather in Sarah Palin's bumpit, or an anchor around her political aspirations.  Well to be honest it would be ANOTHER anchor around her political aspirations.

Undoubtedly Palin will be tweeting her victory lap in 5..4..3..2..

Later I will embed Rachel Maddow's VERY revealing segment concerning Christine "Stop touching yourself!" O'Donnell.

Update: Speaking of Teabagger backed candidates knocking out "sure thing" Republican candidates, Lisa Murkowski has announced that she will decide by Friday whether or not to run as a write in candidate.  She also made the following, kind of awesome, statement:

“As disappointed as I am in the outcome of the primary and my belief that the Alaska Republican Party was hijacked by the Tea Party Express, an outside extremist group, I am not going to quit my party,” Ms. Murkowski said in campaign release. “I will not wrap myself in the flag of another political party for the sake of election at any cost.”

Update 2: As promised here is Christine O'Donnell's anti-masturbation video for MTV

Oh yeah she is going to be a BIG hit with the younger voters. All the Democrats have to do is tell the twenty somethings that if elected O'Donnell will not let them jerk off anymore and they will turn out to vote by the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS!

Delaware is a pretty blue state. Mike Castle has been repeatedly elected for 30 years as Delaware's only state rep precisely because he is a moderate. By nominating a Sarah Palin-like radical, the republicans have signed their own death warrant at the hands of the democrats. Irony of Ironies.

O'Donnell's victory reflects the GOP's sharp turn to the right. That's the only thing that can explain primary victories of people like Sharron Angle, Joe Miller, Rand Paul, and Christine O'Donnell.

It would be a huge mistake to underestimate the readiness of some Americans to vote against their own best interests or to stay home because the so-called enthusiam factor is not present, particularly among Democrats. As far as I'm concerned, I don't have to be "enthusiastic" to vote in my own best interests. Sooner or later, enthusiam wears off because the novelty ceases to exist. All of us who don't want to see the forces of reaction prevail in Congress in November need to get out and vote as if our lives depended on it. As I said, I don't need to be enthusiastic in order to be motivated to vote in my best interests.

wow it's pretty sad that someone with such ignorant views can win a primary in the greatest country on earth.

This is another major wake-up call to Dems and moderate Repubs who didn't vote, thinking things were fine the way they were and seeing how motivated the crazies are. I ran to the polls in WI today because we had similar Palin wannabees bombarding us with their "conservative" messages and it scared the crap out of me.

Hopefully in November, everyone who fears the takeover of the whackjobs will get out and vote.
O'Donnell sounds like she needs some major outing of her financial mismanagement problems...sound familiar???

I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry listening to Palin's robocall on behalf of O'Donnell. Constitutional conservative, really? Like you and the Missoula press's Right to free speech, former half-term governor?

    From bearingdrift, a conservative blog:

"There are more crushing components in [Christine O'Donnell's] back story that have yet to surface, but they will if she wins the GOP nomination. The Coons campaign is licking their collective chops with a smorgasbord of opposition research that hasn’t yet seen the light of day. This is a warning to conservatives if you nominate O’Donnell: The national media will write off not only her but the entire Tea Party Movement as a laughing stock which could result in its ultimate demise."

    GET ENERGIZED, DEMS!!!

New article on Palin by Shushannah Walshe at the Daily Beast:

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-09-14/inside-palins-life-in-alaska/3/

At one point she writes of Palin's parents: "These days, Sally often accompanies her daughter on trips outside Alaska, helping out with the grandkids..."

GrandkidS? Hmmm. Wonder if that was a quote from Sally?

The only reason these tea baggers win is because the thinking Republicans have gotten complacent and have stayed home. They've let this simple-minded minority have the loudest voice at the polls.

It's up to the Dems to wake up to the fact that they are going to have to get OUT and VOTE or they will find themselves with a tea bagger taking the prize.

I'm horrified that our only options are corporate-owned candidates or stunning incompetents, some with their own criminal/unethical baggage.

How Christine O’Donnell and Sarah Palin Handed the US Senate to the Democrats

    http://www.politicususa.com/en/o-donnell-palin

Once again, Sarah Palin has put on full display her ability to cut off her own party at the knees for her own selfish motives. Republicans will likely enjoy a brief moment of House control before the reelection campaign of Obama gives the House back to the Democrats, and Republicans will be left wondering what might have been if Sarah Palin and the Tea Party would not have butted in and Mike Castle could have won a quiet midterm Delaware primary in 2010.

From a friend in Canada: Palin, Angele, Miller, O'Donnell: Whatever happened to American exceptionalism? I am so afraid for you- it seems like the lunatics have taken over the asylum. How are these people going to govern if they win? By bullets instead of brains? As an outsider, I believe that all these people are just pawns and that the real power and the real money to elect them is from elsewhere; no one, aside from the most extreme right wing fanatic, could really believe that any of them, with their lack of any real knowledge could be a serious candidate.Sarah Palin was the canary in the coal mine: the test case, I believe. When her brand of vitriol, snark, ignorance fear-mongering and lying, more of her ilk were backed and you will have even more.I hope the real "RILL Amerikuns" unite to stop this train-wreck before more damage is inflicted on your country. You deserve so much better.

I think the Tea Party needs to be a separate party from the Rebuplican Party. Otherwise, more and more moderate Repubs such as Lisa Murkowski are going to be knocked out of the running Republican ticket by these freaking right wing fanatics. They talk of less government, but in reality, they would end up enacting "blue" type laws that would seriously mess with our freedoms.

The Castle Campaign dug up a ton of stuff on O'Donnell and the masterbation deal is the least of her worries.

She may bring in money from the Koch Brothers but the average person won't give money to a candidate who uses it to pay her rent/mortgage etc..

As bad as Baggers like Angle are this O'Donnell is even worse in my book. She's used running for office as a way to make money and pay her bills so where is the public service Ms. O'Donnell?

Let me see if I have this straight. The Tea Party wants less government in 1) helping our citizens to have health care, 2)increasing job opportunities, 3)having regulation to stop banks from bringing the financial market to its knees 4)less environmental regulation, etc. but they want government to control our bodies. They really, really love the constitution except for all the parts they don't!

I found this gem in the comments of "G.O.P. Leaders Say Delaware Upset Damages Senate Hopes", an article about the O'D win in today's NYT. It bears some thought.

    Paul in Princeton, NJ

"This political landscape is similar to that of the Chinese cultural revolution- when millions of "intellectuals" were sent to farms to become "re-educated". The sad part is that the re-education process should begin with the corporate CEOs and the Wall Street bankers.
Instead, they have played a segment of the disenfranchised American public like marionettes in a tragic farce from the 19th century, with the populace trying to topple the government so they can become the "heros" - to rescue the working class from the tyranny of "big" government. I would laugh, were it not so tragic - when the Tea Party members wake up and discover that they, or their parents won't receive any social support from anyone.
We are developing into a neofascist state with all thoughts of others viewed as "liberal" or "socialist".
I will happily keep my taxes - and not give them to anyone in Alaska, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Wyoming or anywhere else where voters think my tax dollars aren't important to their local welfare.
I want my money back from all states that have taken my tax dollars - and let them fend for themselves."

I hope they let us make s'mores at re-education camp, 'cuz I know I'm going to end up there.
