GREAT new Scott McAdams political ad!

Here is the transcript courtesy of TPM:

"I'm Scott McAdams, and my wife Romy told me I better start wearing a tie -- so I can look 'Senatorial,'" McAdams says in a voiceover, as he looks at all different kinds of ties. "Now, if it takes a tie to finally get the same share of oil royalties as Louisiana, then I'll wear one. And if it takes a tie to stop Joe and Lisa from outsourcing our jobs to China, or our tax dollars to the Lower 48, then that's a good reason, too.

Finally, McAdams seems to settle on a western-style bolo tie -- but then also puts his hand on an Incredible Hulk tie, which used to be a signature motif of Stevens. "I approve this message, because for me, it's about Alaska, and getting our fair share again. We used to have a Senator like that."

Okay now it is official!  I am officially a huge Scott McAdams fan!

At first my choice was one of those "Well I am a Democrat so I better vote the Democratic ticket" or "Between him, the teabagger, and the corporate doormat, he is the best one I guess."  Well now I am no longer picking the best out of a handful of unfortunate choices, I am picking the BEST candidate to represent me, and my state, in Washington!

Give me just a minute, I have to go donate some money.

I support McAdams over Miller and Murkowski, but as someone from "the lower 48", I need an explanation of how Alaska is not getting its fair share of tax dollars when Alaska gets back way more than it sends to Washington.

"SO ON MONDAY OF NEXT WEEK, OR POSSIBLY TUESDAY DEPENDING ON HOW BUSY I AM, THE IMMORAL MINORITY WILL MAKE AN EARTH SHATTERING ANNOUNCEMENT!"

    sweet!

I agree with 2:02. Well, with the "need an explanation" part.

If all McAdams is about is the continued flow of pork to Alaska, might as well support Murkowski. She has a better chance of stopping the nut case Miller.

I like the ad except for the part about increasing oil royalties. Alaska's already taxing at the max. There's no reason for oil companies to invest here as it is. Give them a reason to stay, Scott, and to go after the hard oil.

Ok,so exactly how are Alaska tax dollars going to the "lower 48" ?

I like this guy,but what the heck is he smoking?

Oh,and being from Louisiana, let me say that those "royalties" for the oil leases in the Gulf are not worth the devastation of the seafood industry. Is that what he wants for Alaska? Because our royalties for oil drilling on land go to the landowner,we have the rights to our own minerals and oil on our land here, the state does not take them and redistribute in a socialist way,nor does the Federal Gov.

I think McAdams stepped in a pile with this little advert. He spouts the same nonsense as Murkowski and let's face it she knows the ropes in DC and can swing with the best of the boys. McAdams won't have any of Lisa's clout for years, if he even lasts that long.
I'm with Anon at 2:02, 2:25, and 2:46. As a "lower 48"-er who is subsidizing your state, why shouldn't MY state get 100% of it's tax money back? Why should your state get a disproportionate chink of MY tax dollars?

Steve at What Do I Know? explains the tax bit. It was several weeks ago. I'll find it in a few hours if someone else hasn't-- I'm on my way out for a bit.

Okay, as an Alaskan, I'll weigh in.....

First of all for all of you stating that Alaska gets more than it's fair share of tax dollars -- is 60% of your state's lands owned and controlled by the Federal government? How much of your state is designated as Federal wilderness lands which with that designation means no surface or subsurface development.

For the "royalties" -- Louisiana gets a share of the Federal revenues from Federal leases, Alaska gets none to very little (some Federal lease lands will allow for a 10% royalty, far less than Louisiana gets for its share of Federal lease lands). The royalties Alaska (and Alaskans get through the Alaska permanent fund) are a result of leases of STATE lands and STATE subsurface rights, including for oil and gas. Luckily a Republican Governor (Jay Hammond) and Democratic legislators had the foresight to put the Alaska Permanent Fund into Alaska's state constitution. Those individuals lucky enough to have oil on their private party get to keep the royalties (very few Alaskans are so lucky).

As for Federal tax dollars coming to Alaska, look at what your state has in Federal land base, number of military institutions, and compare the percentages to that of Alaska. That helps explain why Alaska gets so much coming back to it. Then add in that your state's were state's for 100-300 years and that the Federal government helped put basic infrastructure into your state and that has only started to happen in Alaska.

Scott's going after Alaska's fair share is in response to Miller's pledge to turn away Federal tax dollars for Alaska.

    Terrific ad.

The big secret is Gryphen has been taped to run for vice governor, but he needs a couple of days to find a baby polar bear to adopt.

Where Sanchez showed his own closed mindedness and loses his argument, was in saying that Stewart's dad did not work all his life and then cite the proof that his dad did not work all his life.
In fact he paints Stewart's family as a very typical middle class American family.

Absence proof to the contrary most American dads work pretty much all their lives, and physicists generally do not make huge amounts of money, and school teachers even less than that.

If Sanchez's dad was a laborer, that does not give Sanchez, who is probably earning much more than Stewart's parents combined, a pass on being criticized. After all it is Sanchez who chose to be a celebrity and all that goes with that status and public exposure. And it is Colbert who is standing up for Mexican laborers not Sanchez.

I thought it was a cute ad. It made a statement, though it was subliminal more than usual. You think about things it showed later. The Hulk tie was very well played in the end. I don't know if anyone can be Stevens again, but let's give it try. Anyone is 1000% better than Miller. Well, almost anyone (but a Palin or Palin lapdog).
