Lisa Murkowski gets interviewed by Katie Couric on CBS. Anybody else having a moment of Deja vu?

From Political Hotsheet:

Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowki told CBS News' Katie Couric today that she would not support Sarah Palin for president because Palin lacks the "leadership qualities" and "intellectual curiosity" to craft great policy.

"You know, she was my governor for two years, for just about two years there, and I don't think that she enjoyed governing," Murkowski said. "I don't think she liked to get down into the policy." The Alaska senator added that she prefers a candidate who "goes to bed at night and wakes up in the morning thinking about how we're going to deal with" important issues.

In the interview with Couric, Murkowski said she did not have much of a relationship with Palin, though she said their interactions were "always professional."

"We just don't really have much in common - I mean, we don't talk to one another," she said.

"We have common interests in a shared love for our state, and I would like to think that if there were an opportunity to help do something good for Alaska, she would call me, or I could call her,"

Murkowski added. "But in fairness, she is not really that keyed into the state anymore. She is looking, obviously, at a bigger pond, and so we don't see her up north as much."

Here are the three videos of the full interview.

Still not a big fan, but considering how horribly wrong Joe Miller would have been for Alaska I guess I will just have to be happy with the way things worked out.

BTW if indeed Senator Murkowski would like to "be there for ALL" Alaskans then perhaps a good first step would be to vote to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell.  I know some of some rarely represented constituents who would be lifelong Murkowski supporters if she did.

I dunno, maybe this will be liberating for Leasa. Sure, she'll never be a Dem, and always in the pocket of big oil, but after the Reps threw her under the bus she sure isn't beholden to them anymore. The best we can hope for is that she joins the ladies of Maine, and ocassionally buck Rep leadership on some issues.

Katie doesn't seem like she is that tough of an interviewer!

Totally O/T, but, Gryphen, have you heard anything from Mercede? She had wanted to post some private pictures, and wanted to tell what she knows about the 'Trig controversy'. (When I read that at first, I thought :'Uh-oh! She will never be allowed to do that - they will try to prevent her come hell or high water...', and so far, it seems I am correct about it!

Must we as Alaskans unite because something is so bad?
Yes, because Joe is that bad.

The native vote pushed Lisa ahead. OMG this is huge.
Lets not forget this when Alaskas racist freaks come out of the woods and start spewing thier toxic spit. Let's shout them down at every opportunity they rise.

It is now a basic fact, many of Joe's followers are comprised of racist freaks with disgusting attitudes towards our first people. They will get worse with thier attitudes after this count is over! Mark my words, the racist freaks will act more horrible than ever.

  5. I've said this on another post recently, but I'll repeat it here as it is highly relevant. I believe if the GOP wants to heal (from the toxic Palin/wing-nut disease), they will place Murkowski on their presidential ticket, either as the VP or as the Pres candidate.

She is the tough and intelligent woman from Alaska who is everything that SP is not. I understand who she is and where her allegiance is(to big oil)-- however, as we used to say in Brooklyn-- "it coulda been a lot worse!!"

Lisa will never represent all of alaska but she will represent ore than Miller would even attempt to.

And you're right, if she really cared about the majority here she would vote to repeal DADT, because the majority of Alaskans want it repealed.

I wish someone would point out Sarah's biggest flaw when it comes to her running for president. The fact that palin always REACTS first and thinks later (if at all) would be detrimental to this country and the world as a whole.

Palin has no idea how to take action, she only knows how to react harshly and far too quickly - while also only seeing her own view point.

Good! Now maybe some the Republican leadership contenders will grow a pair and start calling out Palin in a similar fashion. The sexist argument against any such attack on her quittership now out the window.

It must feel good to have fought Palin and ended up ahead. Murkowski is in a much happier place now compared with those Repubs in the lower 48, who do not dare to cross or speak ill of Palin due to the fear of being destroyed otherwise.

Since Sarah obviously came out against Lisa M, Lisa can give her the polite (but biting) smack down. Now, Lisa, if you really love your state, you'll open the floodgates on all the griftin' and lyin' the Palins have done these many years.

Ouch...that's gonna hurt. Sarah will have to on Fox to "refudiate" Lisa M.

Dejavu? About what? Unlike the interview that Katie did with that other female Alaskan politican a couple of years ago, Lisa was thoughtful, articulate, and diplomatic. She is obviously literate and educated!

And I would agree, Lisa does show potential for a career in diplomacy!

  17. It would be nice, in fact it would be a dream come true if Lisa M. would now listen to her constitutents and become truly an independent voice for AK: repeal DADT. I hope she really listens to and represents those who made her write-in run a success!
Two, I wonder also, where is Mercede? Or do we just need to be patient?

Go Lisa! open the flood gates of alaskans calling out the palins on their crazy!.

I also think there is an opportunity for a new improved Lisa. And hopefully, she will represent alaska well....even if that is only prventing palin from getting to the whitehouse!

Lisa M. needs to quit with the Rethuglican Paty of *NO* insanity
and vote for the good of the State of Alaska and the United States, not only which favours the Rethuglican Party.

  20. Now the question is, is Murkowski just saying she wants what is best for Alaska and the USA or is she going to sell us out to three other countries. Does Pebble Mine sound familiar? Canada, England, and Japan have plans for Alaska in a huge way. Please check out websites on Pebble Mine Project you will be shocked. Bristal Bay fisheries, dams to hold toxic waste and built on a huge active fault line.

SP is living in the "old west days". Don't say anything bad about my family (even if it is the truth) and if you don't do what I want you to do i'll send my family and friends to set you staight. Money talks in that family, whether it is oil, mines, or giving speaches with forked tongue for money. WHO WAS GOVERNOR WHEN 3other countries SHOWED INTEREST IN DEVELOPING THE LARGEST MINE IN NORTH AMERICA?
